September 4Sep 4 Gottdam USPS. Some criminal asshole broke the main lock on our community mailbox in early February, so everybody on our side of the street has had to pick up their mail at the post office station which is a 24 mile round trip. We have been driving over there once week to pick up our bundled snailmail….sometimes the place is crowded and have to wait. They have obviously been trashing most of the junk mail, which is fine with me. However, today we realized we have missed receiving some important automobile insurance documents. That pisses me off as much as having to do the weekly round trip runs to the post office for 8 months (30+ trips). And no, the PO is not anywhere close to our usual shopping venues, so it has to be a special effort to go there. They claim to have put in work orders 2 or 3 times to get the lock fixed so the carrier can resume placing our daily mail in our boxes. No telling what other important financial & government paperwork or personal mail has been lost because of the USPS incompetence. Guess I’ll start harassing the administrators of that station to get their slow asses in gear and get the box lock fixed. (our section is in the center - the others are undamaged) Edited September 4Sep 4 by Armybrat
September 4Sep 4 My brain is basically wired to scan through the apps on my phone by the color of the icon. It's convenient then that app developers love frequently changing the entire color scheme of their icon.

September 5Sep 5 Grocery stores: are requiring you more and more to clip digital coupons to save $. Feels like data mining to me. I already gave up info to get in your loyalty program. Why are you moving deals to digital? Edited September 5Sep 5 by TheStoicPaisano

I already gave up info to get in your loyalty program. Why are you moving deals to digital? Because they have already sold your email address to everyone who wants it, and now they need to sell increasingly intrusive data from your phone to continue harvesting you. When that wellspring of "grant our app your location data" inevitably runs dry, they'll probably have some new level of intrusiveness to gin into shareholder profits for a few quarters. September 5Sep 5 It's no different than having to use apps at fast food restaurants to get the best deals, even if you're part of the loyalty program already. Why? Data harvesting.
September 5Sep 5 How is HEB so good at couponing with old school paper coupons hanging directly by the item? It's so fucking strange how they build trust with the customer...

Fuck why can’t we have nice things: - Trucks in the right hand lane - Middle lane for regular traffic - Left hand lane to pass - Zero hoopties, zero left lane loitering, zero stupid and unpredictable maneuvers. Just safe, sane, fast driving. The fastest I hit was just a hair under 100. It's close to 100 miles from Freer to Zapata on TX 16. I bust 95 all the time, with a slight slowdown thru Hebbronville.

September 6Sep 6 Spreading sour cream on anything is one of the most annoying things ever. Whatever you use to spread, the sour cream will stick to it like a Velcro super glue fastener.

September 9Sep 9 Popular Post I just spent entirely too much time removing protective tapes, foams and plastic films from a new refrigerator. There were (3) different types of plastic film - a clear that came off fairly easily, a blue that left ragged bits along every edge that needed trimming with an X-acto knife, and a total shitshow pink that needed to be picked off in a thousand pieces like a giant crumbling human scab. Fuck you, refrigerator packaging dept.
September 9Sep 9 Author why can't i find these hangers for a reasonable price? you can get them 1 at a time on etsy for $20 each, but page after page of amazon listing and not a single one of these.

The icemaker on the Samsung at the old house broke within 3 years. The Samsung we bought when we moved into the current house lasted 9 years before the compressor gave up the ghost. The Samsung front load washer died in 10 years. What's the common denominator? Me the idiot who keeps buying Samsung.

Here are good places to get that exact style (wide wooden suit hanger with the spring-loaded trouser clamp in the middle). They’re usually sold as Setwell hangers and they’re mostly vintage: eBay – lots pop up daily; search “Setwell suit hanger” or “Setwell trouser clamp.” Singles and multi-lots often run ~$10–$20 each. Examples: active Setwell listings and bundles. Etsy – also under “Setwell suit hanger” or “wooden suit & clamp hanger.” Prices vary but you can sometimes snag sets. If you’re okay with modern equivalents (same wide shoulders, but a locking/closing pants bar instead of the center clamp), these are easier/cheaper to buy new: StorageWorks wide-shoulder wood hangers with locking bar (packs). Similar options on Amazon if you search “wide shoulder wooden hanger locking bar.” Premium specialty shops (great quality, not cheap) with wide shoulders and felted bars: Kirby Allison wooden suit & trouser hangers. Butler Luxury suit hangers. Search terms that work: “Setwell suit hanger,” “vintage wooden suit hanger with clamp,” “trouser clamp hanger,” or for new ones, “wide shoulder wooden hanger locking bar.” (Chat GPT for ya).

Unless you’re a member of their “preferred” program (where you get to just get in your car and go), all car rental experiences are awful.
September 10Sep 10 A flat tire in the middle of a long trip. At least I have a good temporary spare and I didn't have to change it on the side of the road in the ass end of nowhere. Still, a new tire was not an expected trip expense.
