Literally every day since it happened it has gotten worse. It was horrible when it happened and we all had suspicions but never in a million years would I have suspected this degree of complicity from sitting members of Congress and law enforcement. They ripped out their fucking panic alarms.

Everyone remotely involved needs the fucking chair.

So that’s assault and he should be arrested. If they aren’t willing to arrest him they need to find people to operate that station that will arrest someone who touches them without permission.

Also, why do Republicans act like 4 year olds in public?  Are they trying to shame their parents?

A coupe of things:

1) how insane is it that the people trying to revolt are the ones who have all the privilege and benefit of the doubt in society? It's always people who are oppressed and marginalized that have nothing to lose and start an armed revolution. But it's not blacks, latinos, and native americans doing this. It's the spoiled privileged whites.

2) how do these people, trump, and the congressionals who are complicit not realize that any attempt at insurrection is doomed to failure without the backing of at least half the military? They went into this with absolutely zero military backing whatsoever. Without that even if everything went to plan and they captured the Capitol and executed some politicians... What comes next? They hold out until several special forces units are dispatched to breach the Capitol and wipe them out? Without any of the military behind them no one is going to just start taking orders from them because they killed some congressmen.

It really looks like Trump was trying to ignite a civil war.

I agree 100%.

With the metal detector theater, we are giving these idiots exactly what they want. A public opportunity to virtue signal. This is a fucking campaign ad for these people. This is great for them. They have now stood up to loony Washington DC who hates guns and wants restrictions they don't even honestly believe are appropriate.

Woohoo.

So we give them a win because... what? We feel scared and our response is to say, "Let's just increase security even if it doesn't make sense."?

Do we actually believe that Congressmen are in there scared of Boebert shooting them? Or are they just pissed at her grotesquerie and ignorance? They are right to hate her, because she is fucking detestable and a moron and freak, but none of them in there think she's going to shoot them and if they do they're idiots (like Susan Collins thinking Iran was invading).

tumblr-same-as-it-ever-was_orig.gif

This is an argument for Democrats to come armed.

Then you go through a fairly open process of determining what the real security issues are and you address them. Congressmen have been allowed to carry guns on the floor at least since 1967.

Come up with a formal process for handling it BEFORE installing the detectors and giving these freaks an opportunity to pull a stunt.

I agree with you in some ways about the metal detectors, but Boebert pulling a gun in the Capitol probably wouldn't be in the top 5 most surprising things of the past year. Hell, it wouldn't even be the most surprising thing of 2021 so far. I'm not sure how you can dismiss it out of hand.

I hate guns and MAGAts, and try to avoid being around either of those things. The two combined, especially in an emotionally charged time and place, would make me uneasy.

But even to do that he'd need a significant portion of the military behind him to start a civil war between his military faction and Biden/the remaining US military. If the military is united on one side then there won't be a civil war. The difference between a terrorist and a revolutionary is backing from the military.

A disgusting amount of self-privilege and an engrossed sense of self-entitlement, combined with a beyond-all-reasoning lack of self-awareness and accountability, answer all your questions.

Nothing is higher than architect.

At the risk* of being yelled at again before people eventually say, "Well OK fine you're right but go to hell anyway"...

Not really.

"Trying" is the key word here and "trying" isn't exactly something Donald Trump does. It's the difference between a guy who lazily and distractedly flicks matches at a forest and a guy who walks into the forest with cans of gasoline and road flares. Trump's the lazy, distracted, and stupid one.

He obviously wasn't displeased by his idiot minions (both the cops (who are bastards) and the mentally and emotionally disturbed freaks the cops enabled) stormed the capitol in a doomed-to-fail attempt at a coup, but his goal isn't societal transformation or a civil war, his goal is to be perceived as the winner. If the MAGA Coup had worked and the Congress had said, "FINE OK TRUMP IS PRESIDENT FOR LIFE!" he would've celebrated victory and told his mentally deficient friends to go home in peace, back to their beautiful boats.

Do a great deal of his followers want civil war? Oh absolutely, but really what they want is RAHOWA, the racial holy war. These are people who have visions of a world that doesn't involve them, which Donald Trump is constitutionally incapable of envisioning.

After 1/6 he made his hostage video and all of his griping about how he shouldn't have made his hostage video is done in private. He saves his most derange proclamations for the unfortunate souls who surround him. He's been virtually radio silent since 1/6.

He's not trying to kick off a civil war.  People who start civil wars care about big ideas and about vast swaths of people. He's a crybaby who is mad he lost and doesn't care about anything but himself.

He's a giant piece of human waste, but we should try to understand that in a proper context instead of trying to discover new ways to express our hysterical anxiety. (Same for Boebert, Greene, et al)

I’m also wondering, and trying not to be too tin foil hat here, but if the congresspeople (who are also Greene, et. al.) who refused to wear masks when herded off into that room, did so not only because they’re raging assholes but also because they wanted to be recognized by the insurrectionists if they got through.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that police, military police, capital police, and military in general skew republican and believe there was some level or semblance of shenanigans in the election. Do you start screening folks who work at the capital to make sure they aren’t republican or supporters and believers of Trump (or whichever party is not in power, in the future)?
