Hey, does anyone who knows Swam in real life checked in on him lately to see if he's okay? I realize his wifi has been pretty spotty for a while but just wanted to go on record to voice my concern.

Could you imagine that you're trying to sell your house, and you got caught up in your realtor's politics? Potentially you could lose out on a sale. If I was in the situation, I would go ballistic.

I'm fucking tight-lipped about my politics.  The only thing on my vehicle is the small chrome bevo.

A young guy in my office used to have his car plastered with political stickers...I always thought doing that was moronic.

Organic bread and water works for me.

Catching up on the story that Jenny Cudd’s posting from DC mentions her friend who isn’t an American citizen yet. He will probably get deported over this this and definitely will never become a citizen here. Win for the good guys.

There's a Twitter account @NoFlyListVids. I bet they feel like they won the lottery.

Uhh BLM occupied Portland. Thanks for trying though.

A Twitter account that claimed to be run by antifa activists and called for violence at the protests was later linked to the white nationalist group Identity Evropa. A viral May 27 tweet, from a popular QAnon account, alleged that the protests were an effort by the “deep state” to “start a race war before the election,” arguing “antifa & BLM are domestic terrorist organizations that need to be STOPPED.” Conservative media outlets and prominent Twitter influencers, including Donald Trump Jr., amplified the theory that antifa was connected to the violence.

In the link below there are numerous accounts of the BLM protests being used be criminals as a cover to commit organized crime (looting)

"These radicals are not content with marching in the streets. They want to walk the halls of Congress, they want to take over, they want power," Mark McCloskey said in a joint speech he and his wife gave at the RNC Convention. "This is Joe Biden's party. These are the people who will be in charge of your future and the future of your children."

You remember Mark right, he was the wimp who along with his wife pointed guns and threatened people that were using the sidewalk.

Another article showing how the majority of crimes were not committed by BLM protestors, and the most serious were done by some dance troupe called the Boogaloo's.

The protest camp remained after the attempted sweep by law enforcement which only succeeded in clearing the front entrance to the facility, it has been described by federal officials as a "very, very peaceful" protest camp.[10] The camp had a well stocked kitchen with food and supplies being donated by local residents and many prominent local businesses; onsite child care was available along with basic medical care and even a massage and meditation tent. A 6-ft wooden barricade was constructed by the community to protect the camp from the street. Near to the camp the Department of Homeland Security built a separate barricade with federal police erecting a metal fence around the ICE building on July 2.

Occupy Portland 2020 Edition

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/dec/10/portland-protest-family-eviction-red-house

Summary: protestors were protesting an eviction by police during a pandemic, during an eviction moratorium.   Protestors were handing out free food and clothing.  resolved peacefully. https://www.oregonlive.com/portland/2020/12/portland-red-house-occupation-what-you-should-know-monday-after-barricades-come-down.html with an apology from the Mayor.

BLM Protests

PNWYLF’s rhetoric also made it an easy target for city leaders and conservative commentators looking for a way to try to delegitimize protests wholesale. As recently as this month, FOX News published a story titled “Antifa-aligned group cheers alleged arson at police officer’s home,” based on a single tweet from the account.

Multiple sources confirmed to OPB that its Twitter account, long shrouded in mystery, was started and run by a white teenager who grew up in suburban Portland. That person said they’ve since moved on from the group.

But while PNWYLF lingers in the shadows, encouraging violence and property destruction in the name of racial justice, its anonymity stands in contrast to Black and brown activists who find it impossible to conceal their identity in an overwhelmingly white city.

THANKS TO OUR SPONSOR:

“When we get dragged out by the cops, it’s easy to identify a Black person within Portland, even if they have their mask on.” Wright said.

“A lot of the time,” said Eli Deschera, a Black activist who founded an organizing group called the Radical Justice Party, “it’s the younger crowd that believes that you shouldn’t police other people’s protests. And in turn, they are the reason why so many people are getting arrested and injured.”

Deschera said he thinks the potential of the nightly Black Lives Matter marches was squandered by people who were in it for the wrong reasons.

“It’s really disheartening to see something that was so beautifully brought together and had such great potential just get essentially demolished by all these white high school kids that live in the suburbs,” he said.

If he's from Auburn, then perhaps he's a Tiger fan.

And @Nivek, given Oregon's long and storied past with white supremacy going back all the way to statehood, I feel pretty bad for the citizens that have watched their town burn because of it. Antifascist and BLM  type organizations of some form or other were in response to that supremacy and many eyes across the nation just look at Portland and other PNW cities and haven't a clue about their past history. If we said: Mobile, Alabama people might understand a little more. But they cannot seem to grasp the nuance. Either because they refuse to or lack the ability.

I wonder how surprised Mr. Watson was to find himself labeled as Antifa on so many #fakenews radical right websites? He was the main target for those who wanted to pretend Antifa was behind the attack on the Capitol.

I didn't really listen all that closely this time, but I was sure that Surly had flagged this guy as some anti mask guy from a couple of months ago.

Apologizes if I am wrong.  I'm a bit frazzled right now and probably should not be cluttering up the board with my off the cuff thoughts. Carry on.

Yeah, I was confused by that.  These people make no sense.  I would not be remotely surprised if one of these guys came up to me on Inauguration Day with his Trump mask over his eyes, and then tells me I'm a sheep for wearing one.  Then I ask how he can see if I'm wearing a mask or not, and he tells me the mask is over to his eyes to represent how I'm blind to the Pelosi tyranny.  Then I wonder, then shouldn't I be the one wearing the mask over my eyes?  And then instead of laughing at how it's like that one Seinfeld episode, we fight one another until arrested by state police.

This is the party of "family values," and what strikes me on these videos over and over, probably the family value that was most drilled into my head from my parents was that you show respect to those around you if you hope to earn respect from them, and that means you don't throw temper tantrums or fits, you behave like an adult and you don't waste people's time.  And yet over and over I'm watching these things and wondering where their family is and why weren't they taught these lessons?  It's just sad.

Also, I want them to cut this out because when the pandemic is over I'll be back to traveling for work again.  Unfortunately, I look like a trumpanzee to the uninitiated. Standard 40's white guy who could probably lose a few pound who typically travels in a t-shirt.  I'm not really excited about the extra screening that is coming my way once TSA starts changing it's profiling standard.

I was thinking about this as well. People generally assume that I'm a conservative when they meet me. I always change out of my suit or business wear into more casual stuff when I'm flying home. I might have to keep the monkey suit on at least until I get through security so they peg me as business guy and not domestic white terrorist guy in a Longhorn hat.

Or I could just wear my gritty shirt.
