He displayed talent at making plays in the backfield. Then came in twenty or twenty five pounds lighter and was worthless. I think Foster actually has a bigger frame than Striker.

Foster coming into camp light was a strategic move on his part. For better or worse, kid has been pretty consistent in his lack of interest in playing closer to the LOS.

You do realize he was playing at safety his freshman year right, just in a different scheme. And he has been playing with basically one shoulder the last year and a half, that has more to do with this worthlessness then anything IMO. Hopefully he is fully healthy next season and can regain his freshman form.

He was lined up near the LOS and was rushing the passer and making plays behind the LOS. He should have not gone from 210 to 190, he should have gone from 210 to 220 and just been a specialist. He is not a good safety because he cannot cover. He is physical and has abilities to make plays behind the LOS and be disruptive. He should be on the field on passing downs.

You do realize the defensive scheme we ran in that Sugar Bowl would not survive in our league right. Not sure having a 220lb tweener does us any good, and regardless of weight gain he wouldn't have been better than Overshown in the same position. We need him to go back to being an above average safety more than anything. So I'd rather he focus on that and getting healthy more than gaining weight.

March 20, 20214 yr (Eric Nahlin) Spring Roster Audit: Defense Spoiler We took a good look at the offense on Wednesday. Let’s see what Pete Kwiatkowski’s inheritance looks like on defense. You’ll notice a lot of names missing, whether to graduation, early entry to the NFL, or the portal. Some key players are also banged up. Defensive Line Keondre Coburn: A clean and easy fit, Coburn is the defender closest to the ball whether in a three- or four-man front. If he loses 20-25 pounds he’ll see a jump in his already quality play. An oddity, Coburn’s motor runs hot regardless of how big he is, the question becomes how long can he run? Depth helps his effectiveness but he needs to take a little more ownership in his body. He seems to be doing that. T’Vondre Sweat: Sweat plays the same 1-tech/NT role Coburn does and the same applies to weight loss. Behind the scenes Sweat is viewed as talented enough to play at Bama. Improved conditioning will make him more consistent. He’s still nursing a shoulder injury suffered last year and will be limited in camp. Moro Ojomo: Ojomo will likely be the first guy out there at 3-tech with Alfred Collins’ wrist still not 100%. PK seems to prefer big bodies in the interior and that’s not Ojomo. It’s conceivable he’s a guy who moves around and also plays Jack, similar to him playing defensive end last year. He showed improvement as the season wore on. Alfred Collins: A wrist injury can’t slow his momentum off a strong freshman year. He’s one of the most talented underclassmen in the country and will start at 3-tech when he’s healthy. We’ll get a better idea of his health in the coming days. Sawyer Goram-Welch: Played sparingly as a freshman but didn’t look out of place. 3-tech is his best fit on defense. Vernon Broughton: The talented freshman had a quiet year, but that was predicted given his need for development and the depth in front him. Expect more of a breakout this season, but his junior year is where he’ll really take off. He’ll be a 3-tech but could also play Jack on running downs. Myron Warren: His stay in the El Portal Motel was short-lived and he returned to the program. Jack/X-backer Jacoby Jones: Jones is presented with a golden opportunity at Jack. PK’s reputation for teaching and developing the position is a much-deserved break for the former Juco product. He should be the best pass rusher Texas has at the position, but it’s still unknown how good he’ll be. This is a big spring for him from a developmental standpoint. Ray Thornton: Thornton will likely bounce between X-backer, which is the smaller OLB, and Jack, the more traditional defensive end. He doesn’t carry a ton of weight but he’s a very strong 6-foot-3.5 and 240+ pounds. He wasn’t overly productive at LSU, but he had NFL guys ahead of him and he did play. Prince Dorbah: At a minimum, Dorbah needs to prove himself as a pass rusher to give the defense some burst off the edge. He’ll have plenty of opportunity, but will he be prepared? Derrick Harris Jr: He’s still not 100% healthy after season-ending knee surgery last fall but he’s getting close. Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown: He’ll miss spring ball after having surgery to repair a torn labrum. There’s no substitute for ‘doing’ but the staff will have all of August to dedicate to getting him ready for the season opener. Juwan Mitchell: We’re not expecting Mitchell to participate while he focuses on academics. David Gbenda: This is a big spring for Gbenda as he‘s first man up in Overshown’s absence at Mike. The light has seemed to be slowly coming on for him, but now in his third year, it’s time to think less and play fast. Gbenda has the speed and athleticism to become a quality Big 12 defender. Jaylan Ford: Ford would make for a quality breakout candidate this spring. He could grab hold of the ‘Dime’ ILB position and never look back. He understands the game well and shows good downhill quickness. His ability dropping into coverage is a question. Skill-set wise, Chris Ash Will LB = PK Mike LB, Chris Ash Mike LB = PK Dime LB. Jett Bush: Bush was moved back to linebacker and is now the functional #2 behind Ford with Gbenda replacing Overshown for the time being. Depth is pretty thin at Jack/X-backer so we’ll see if that holds. Jaden Hullaby: Hullaby should be a big beneficiary of Overshown and Mitchell missing spring. He doesn’t diagnose as well as Ford, but Hullaby is a better overall athlete than his classmate and he could become a long-term solution at Mike. Marcus Tillman: Info has been in short supply on Tillman. We’d love to hear of him pushing Ford at Dime but things have probably been quiet for a reason. Terrence Cooks: The talented early enrollee has been slotted for Mike but he could end up at either ILB position over the course of his career. He has a bit of a learning curve ahead of him so it’s good he’s getting an early start. Defensive Back BJ Foster: Foster is the starting boundary safety and that is very unlikely to change. He’ll be good playing cleanup in Cover 3 or providing run support. He hasn’t had the college career he’d like, but he’s still an NFL athlete with NFL tools and mentality. Jerrin Thompson: His instincts and ability to get his hands on the ball started to turn heads last year. That late finish put him in a strong position to contend at field safety. What happens at corner could have downstream effects on field safety, if one is moved to nickel, thus moving Adimora. Chris Adimora: Adimora played the SPUR linebacker position last year but that will be a nickel role this year and it might require more coverage. Nickel will be one of the main things we’re asking about this spring. Adimora’s best position could be boundary safety or perhaps Mike linebacker after Overshown departs. We have one source saying he can play anything in the back end if they tailor his body for it. Anthony Cook: He was recently named academic player of the month or some such. That caught my eye. He has the coverage skills to play a more traditional nickel role. His story at Texas might not be finished being written. Tyler Owens: Boundary safety is his only fit in the secondary. We wonder if the new staff prefers him at linebacker like the old staff. And if they do and he doesn’t want to move, then what? Would Taylor Mays be a three-time All American in this era of football? Brenden Schooler: He was recently moved to safety, which makes sense given his freshman year at Oregon where he had four picks was the best season he’s had as a collegian. Brenden meet Blake, Blake meet Brenden. Marques Caldwell: He’s still at nickel as far as we know. JD Coffey: Coffey is much like Jerrin Thompson, which is mostly good. They do lack top-end speed but can make up for that somewhat with their ability to see the field and watch plays develop. Coffey has good ball skills and generates serious pop as a tackler. It wouldn’t be surprising if he was Je. Thompson’s primary backup this season. Cornerback Josh Thompson: I‘m with those who think he ends up being the nickel. That would likely be his home in the NFL so he might as well get a head start on it. D’Shawn Jamison: If he cleans up his technique and plays more consistent he’s going to be drafted in the first three rounds. He’ll be a good case study for Terry Joseph as a teacher. Darion Dunn: It would be surprising if he didn’t put a firm grasp on a corner position this spring. He’s the closest thing to a corner template on the roster. Kitan Crawford: Texas has four players capable of starting at corner. Crawford could also conceivably be looked at for nickel. That was part of the high school evaluation, and also what we’ve heard recently. Jahdae Barron: Barron has solid technique already. It won’t be easy to find playing time this year, but if he competes like there is, he’ll be more than ready next year. Jamier Johnson: After missing his senior year due to the unique potency of Covid-19 to California teenagers, he’s behind the ball from a physical readiness standpoint. Being an early enrollee was a good way to get back on track. Probably a safety long-term but time spent at corner will be a tremendous help.
March 21, 20214 yr If nickle in this defense prioritizes coverage over run support, why isn't Jamison getting a look here? This conference usually has speed at slot so it would seem logical. To that same end, Cook shouldn't be at nickle. He's still a switch corner to me and I get why he would get a look primarily at nickle but I'd try him at field safety and see just how good his football IQ is.

March 22, 20214 yr Good interview with Sark so far on the horn. I like what he said about how players are different in terms of some being better students of the game in game film classroom but others being better once you step on the grass and how you have to identify each and see how they come together.

Players/students have different learning styles... you have to teach in a variety of ways to educate better They can learn visually, by listening, and kinesthetically... great teachers and coaches use multiple ways to help their students/players learn.
March 22, 20214 yr I REALLY hope the University has found a combo of Mack/Charlie/Herman here. My POV/reasoning... Each Coach had positive traits: Mack - Recruiting and Class - we all know he could recruit. But that “class” was often taken, and rightly so, for his softness; which could be argued, begets the entitlement. No thanks Charlie/ I feel like he had that “dawg” mentality, a sort of toughness. He.Just.Couldn’t.Coach.On.Gameday. Nor was he the CEO that the program needs/demands. Herman- Could recruit. Is an intelligent person. Is also what could be described as a narcissist with a huge inferiority complex. Alway has to be the smartest person in the room (Again, NO “leader” should want this) And one of the most irritating traits of course, that when they were up, the turtle came out. And it certainly wasn’t because he was “keeping it classy”... So, I hope Sark can: Recruit (so far it’s looking like he can), be an astute GAME DAY coach (Saban tree, so I’m hopeful), remain humble and surround himself with smarter people than he, and kick ass (ie knock the shit out of ‘em, help ‘em up, so you can do it again) I’m fired up. Let’s GO!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

April 26, 20214 yr Popular Post IT Spoiler TEAM “They had practices better than that spring game,” said one source. He continued, “but they got a lot out of spring ball.“ What was the best thing that came out of the practice bloc? The offensive line came a long way according to the source. He also mentioned how it was a tone-setter for August. “Now they know what’s expected of them, how they’re supposed to practice, and there’s a familiarity that will help them grow before the season.” Our sources are fairly bullish on what the team can become this year, but very bullish on the Texas program in the long run. Players are having spring exit interviews today. We’ll have much more on the team in the coming days. LB Devin Richardson, New Mexico State via Klein: The kid from Klein, TX, that grew up dreaming of playing for UT just got his wish. He’s been waiting awhile. Richardson committed to Texas yesterday. “More than you know,” said Richardson. “God and opportunity. Texas has always been my dream school. So blessed I get to call it home.“ After a spectacular freshman season, his career totals in a little over a year of football are impressive - 78 tackles, three tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and two sacks at NMSU. While it looks like he’ll likely play ILB, he hasn’t discussed with the staff yet. “I’m not focused on that right now truly,” Richardson said. “I’m leaving that to the coaching staff. I believe they will put me where I fit best to help the team.“ Again, this is one guy that is simply happy to be closer to home. And it’s a win-win if you’re Steve Sarkisian. “Texas was my dream school so how God’s plan played out was amazing,” said Richardson. “Like me and my family say, “Faith Walk’. It’s already done, just got to walk it out.” The deeply religious Richardson appears to be an absolute steal for this staff.
