Do you guys pay for the Ring subscription?

We live in a fairly nice party of town behind a gate, but we're pretty close to said gate and across the street from the swimming pool. It's generally a very safe neighborhood and we haven't had a package stolen in the 5 years we've been here. We've had a couple of raccoons in the front yard fucking, but that's about as strange as it gets.

I installed a doorbell because the architect who designed this house forgot to put in windows on the first floor that face the street. I mainly want the kids to be able to see who's at the front door (they're too short for the peephole) instead of getting all excited and open the door assuming it's their favorite aunt.

So the subscription is only $30/year. We can easily blow through that much on a Chik-Fil-A run. Just wondering what you all do.

I pay for it in hope of recording something funny happening.

Humble brag about living in a gated community asking about a $2.50 dollar/mo subscription? Lol

You should double down... get the subscription and then go to Chick-fil-A. Live dangerously

I have a nest doorbell thing on my new house. It was nagging me about the trial running out and I was a few paragraphs into reading about what the functionality looked like without the subscription and then I remembered that it was a couple bucks a month and subscribed.

I'm sure i could figure it out, but I think for nest the grossest looking thing without a subscription was that it sends every alert rather than just ones it thinks you'll find important.

we have a subscription.  does ring only keep snapshots in 6 second intervals if there's not motion triggering a recording?  just now i tried looking at video from 5am this morning but a.)  it only plays at a super fast speed, like 45 minutes over the course of 3 seconds and b.) if i push pause and manually drag the slider it moves along at increments of 6 - 8 seconds.  is there a way to view my video from 5am in real time instead of super fast forward?

Lol. They installed the gate because we're close to a regional park and coyotes were coming into the neighborhood nabbing little dogs.

Yeah, $30/year isn't much, just wondering whether it's worth it because like I said, we live in a really safe neighborhood with a gate and machine gun tower.

I pay... love scanning recordings during nighttime hours to see all the animals that I previously had no idea were taking over my yard.

Pretty worthless without the record feature

Who the fuck builds a house without being able to see the street?

Some dumbass architect. Then again I’m the dumbass who bought the house. But location location location. Or house has gone up in value about $150k in the past 5 years.

I'm going to attempt to install the Google Hello today.  However the builder grouted the damned wire and button in between the bricks.  I hope to god I don't fuck this up as I slowly try to chip this all out....

This. We have a front door cam and a driveway cam. Driveway cam is amusing sometimes as we get random wildlife wander the premises from time to time in the wee hours, although we really got it to make sure nobody was nosing around where they shouldn’t be. If you can’t record the footage what’s the point.

Get a better doorbell? I roll w a Eufy. No cloud based storage fee or anything like that bc its stored on the device.

Raccoon porn is a niche market, but it is growing. Jump in on the bottom floor, get some subscribers to your feed, and the Ring will pay for itself. And if you play your cards right, you're headed for an early retirement.
