April 27, 20187 yr Fucking finally Quote The Long Walk A film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1979 post-apocalyptic novel, The Long Walk, which concerns a deadly walkathon in which contestants must keep a pace of four miles per hour without stopping, is now in development at New Line. James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) is slated to write and produce. [THR]
April 27, 20187 yr Sweet. Coincidentally, this story kept me from going crazy one summer between semesters. I got a bad case of poison ivy and couldn’t sleep. Reading this story got me through a couple of nights. I also wonder why it took so long to bring this to the screen. Seems as if the concept would be perfect for the dystopian Hunger Games type crowd.
April 27, 20187 yr I read this one in 8th grade and was fascinated by the concept which now seems to be the soup of the day. Hopefully this will not be a Maze Runner type adaptation.
April 27, 20187 yr Maze Runner. Thx. That was the other movie I was trying to think of in my previous post.

July 1Jul 1 It was one of his books published under his Richard Bachman pseudonym. According to King, it was actually the first novel he ever wrote.
July 2Jul 2 This looks like it has high potential. I'm down. The Long March was also compiled into a collection of four novels written under King's pseudonym: The Long Walk, Roadwork, The Running Man, and Rage. I remember reading "The Bachman Books" as a teen and loving all of them. I wish I'd saved my copy because King stopped printing Rage after it inspired a bunch of high school shootings. Also The Running Man as a novel is so much better than the movie (which was great in its own right). Edited July 2Jul 2 by VivaNaranja

September 14Sep 14 Anybody seen this yet? Was thinking of going to see it tomorrow. Looks pretty positive on the reviews/rotten tomatoes.

I saw it. it's fine. some graphic violence. luke skywalker was good. the cyborg from alien romulus was great. I was entertained enough but it won't blow you away. didn't particularly care for the ending. overall rating: 3/5
September 15Sep 15 I attempted yesterday to watch it. I have that movie pass for Regal so if I am just not really into a movie I'll get up and leave. This one, for me at least, was not one I wanted to stay and watch. That does not mean the movie is not good. I made it maybe 30 minutes or so in.
September 15Sep 15 disturbing. i am disturbed. 😐 Hamill is terrific and Hoffman's kid can really act. Spoiler i haven't read it in a while but i think the ending is different? i was not expecting it anyway. so i really want to see PTA's new one but i may need a break from dystopian america allegorical stories. like Veep stopped being 🤣 and started being 😐. i should maybe start watching Pixar films.

The last part is probably why I left. Watching what should be fiction now possibly turning into reality kinda hits home with me. Hoffman’s kid is going to be in some really big movies. He’s not getting jobs because of his name. He’s talented.

This is more a worldwide thing. Seeing people displaced by war and knowing what they are going through, among other things, made that movie too hard to watch. Again, it doesn't mean it's not good. I just couldn't stay to see all of it. Sometimes a movie just triggers something inside to where I just leave. This was one of those. Not the first time it's happened on a movie over the years.

But how can I watch v9 if I haven't seen all of the other Back Door Slut movies? I don't have the time to dedicate to a whole other franchise with its own cinematic universe. But if I start right in with v9, I am going to be completely lost. Why is the cable guy still at the house after fixing the cable? What is his motivation? Why does the pizza guy say the pizza has extra sausage when it's clearly a vegetarian pie? Surely that was explained in an earlier installment, but I don't have time to watch all of those and scour the internet for easter eggs.
September 17Sep 17 It didn't blow me away, but I liked it. The acting was great and it took me forever to place the kid who played Curly - it was Jojo Rabbit all grown up. Spoiler The ending does differ from the book in a couple of significant ways, but it worked.

I was pretty blown away that the star of one of the absolute best movies this century had a bit part with few lines in a very basic mid-budget dystopian thriller.

I am genuinely not trying to sound bitchy, but did you know anything about it going in? Dystopian and gory are definitely two major hallmarks of the book.

Dystopian and gory are definitely two major hallmarks of the book. Your question didn't seem bitchy at alI. I had seen the preview, did not read the book, and figured I wasn't going to like the film but gave it a shot just because I went along with a group and it wasn't my choice. Other opinions...I thought the acting was generally good and certainly the film has excellent production value. Cooper seemed like a natural. I thought the actor who played Charlie was likable but there were times when he wasn't a natural fit- to me, he seemed too polished for the role he was playing and came across more as an actor than a character, if that makes sense.
September 18Sep 18 I often watch movies without knowing anything about them - it's kinda nice IMO to just go in with a general sense of what genre it is. I knew that this was Stephen King and the general premise and that it is one of his earlier books (first maybe?). DIdn't know it was Hoffman's kid. I enjoyed it, I'm not sure if I took much from it but I don't know how important that is anyways. Not sure I loved the ending, it felt kinda flat. Agree with the criticism of Charlie - his lack of struggle stuck out to me. Maybe that was part of the point of his character (and of course you get to see some more about his background), but generally just being a good guy who is helping everyone else out and not at a breaking point over several hundred miles of walking without rest made him feel less real as a character. And yeah man, gory.

I can watch gory at times, but not always. Again I always preface my thoughts on films in that none of them will get every person to like them. We all have different tastes in film and what we enjoy. I won’t bash this film, especially because of Roman Griffin Davis being in it. He is in Jojo Rabbit as everyone here knows. That’s my favorite film of all-time. I hope he has many more roles ahead of him and that he turns into a star.
September 20Sep 20 I think the actor who played McVries did better than Hoffman. More likeable, for sure (and written that way.) And yes, the ending is different than the book.
