December 22, 20241 yr I was a little surprised they didn't have Manny playing off and bailing more to stay over the top, especially since the defense is known for wanting to not give up big plays, and we had a multiple score lead.
December 22, 20241 yr Manny seems to always be in trail technique, I’m not sure if that is by design or if he is always beat off the line. I think he would make more plays on the ball if he can stay on top of the WR.

Manny has to get better at handling it. Sorry but there are other WRs at the college level that use that push-off technique. Some are still in the playoffs. It's time for Manny to adjust his coverages and better defend against bigger and stronger WRs. Welcome to the big leagues in the CFB playoffs Manny -- more passes are heading your way... 😋 Clemson has the 3rd best receiver corps in the playoff behind Ohio State and Oregon. I am not sure why us people around here don't wanna give credit where credit is due. They are superior to us in this regard. They had 3 guys out there making Golden level catches.

I just don't think we have been tested this year...
December 23, 20241 yr good receivers + good QB + worried about QB run + big lead and losing focus = what we got.

They made plenty of contested catches. The best thing about OSU is Ryan day forgets about them some time.
December 23, 20241 yr Not to go on and on especially given our amazing defense this year, but has been a pet peeve of mine... Have our DBs ever turned around to look at the ball under this staff?

Yeah, Clemson's WR corps is the strength of their team. Moore and Wesco are legit 5 star talents and Williams is also damn good. I actually think they probably have the 2nd best WR corps behind Ohio State. The reason Clemson was no threat is because 1) they had no run game with Mafah injured and 2) Their D is bad. But those WRs are legit. There were some blown coverages but also just some good plays by those guys. Tip your hat to them.

Definitely a valuable lesson for Manny to learn from and continue growing -- he'll get better at handling a bigger stronger WR in the future.

It was well known who we were going to have to deal with and sure as shit they pantsed the shit out of our DBs. But just looking at skill. They left their feet a lot. They caught with their hands, not basket-catching everything. That isn't just a they played well against us thing. They were good and physically dominated out DBs.

They certainly appeared better than anything Texas has faced since the playoffs last season.

He definitely deserve it, but he was far from the only issue. I haven't rewatched since going to the game, but LBs were not good in coverage. Guilbeau was benched.

January 1Jan 1 Gave up 510 yards and 24 points in regulation. Defense got fucked by offense and ST multiple times. Lost TOP by 15 minutes. Really wish we had Sweat and Murphy back this year. Edited January 1Jan 1 by USNALonghorn

January 1Jan 1 I’m not going to bag on PK for this. The defense was on the field the entire game for various reasons. That was probably the most snaps they’ve played all season by a wide margin. Arizona State had 8 points entering the fourth quarter Edited January 1Jan 1 by Navin R. Johnson
January 1Jan 1 ^^^^^ They were on the field a ton and largely they got stops when they needed to for most of the game.
January 11Jan 11 Author PK's defense only giving up 21pts tonight was impressive. 🤘 Wish tonight's refs would have called the obvious holding of Colin Simmons that occured on their big 3rd and long conversion during their 4th quarter TD drive.
January 11Jan 11 Playing hail Mary defense on the other teams 25 yard line right before halftime was less than impressive and not looking for the QB draw on 4th down was fucking horrible.
January 11Jan 11 PK is bad ass and deserves a massive raise. Tonight should put to bed any "but who have they played" excuses.
January 11Jan 11 PK had to get a new coach in this year to correct all his mistakes over the last 3 years. Reminder, the "everybody bail for 50 yards" play on the screen play that went for 75 yards was classic PK.

The best reciever in college football was held to one catch for 3 yards. He's a top 5 DC at worst. You should move to Pecos.

He wasn't this close until they brought in the new coach to correct his mistakes over the last 3 years. OSU's DC only gave up 14 points. I just want a DC that is as good as OSU's because I want Texas to win championships. No one should ever live in Pecos. It's a hell hole.

Taafe ran backwards at the snap at least 15 yards behind where he lined up. I could tell in the moment that it was excessive and knew something bad was going to happen, but even I didn't expect a 75 yard TD. Stupid me.

He also blitzed a db and dropped Hill 30 yards deep, just fucking stupid.
January 11Jan 11 Seriously one of the worst defensive plays ever Don't forget the 4th and 2 and we are playing defensive alignment like it's 4th and 12 and allow a QB draw for a huge gain. This is coming out of a timeout too. But yeah, the end of the 1st half was the biggest kick in the nuts you can have. Sucked all momentum from us.
January 11Jan 11 He’s a much better coach than I gave him credit for in 2021 and 2022. I don’t really like his style of defense, but it works. He still makes some boneheaded calls at times. Such is life. The defense easily played well enough this year to win a national title. Sark and the offense fucked us.
January 11Jan 11 The 75 yard TD was rough, but PK’s body of work speaks for itself. Thought we’d take a bigger step back without Sweat and Murphy, but we actually ended up looking much more complete and well rounded.

January 11Jan 11 He made just as many bad calls as Sark. And just like Sark, overall he called a really good game. When you play equal talent the game comes down to a few plays. They were better.
