Of course.  And I have posted exactly that in either this thread or the Muschamp thread.  I am not defending what was said in the press conference.  I am supporting his decision to make what he (and most of us) believe is an upgrade at DC.

Nah, that's standard coachspeak - "we had had the opportunity to hire a great DC and I decided it was time for a change in direction, bla bla". The backhanded shit was not needed and is classless.  I bet he wishes he could take that back, even if true.

I'm not against this move - it has a chance to be a good one.  We will see.  It's the seeming lack of accountability on Sark's side of the ball (and ST) that's far more worrying.

I agree with this.

People are arguing about how poorly the defense was performing and they are right. My argument is not about replacing PK.

My point is that Sark's lack of accountability and more importantly, any semblance of grace to someone who came here with him and helped turn around the program is appalling and embarrassing. I won't remember Sark for the wins and losses but I will always remember Sark for this.

Good one!

I'm critical of Sark. He blew it this past year.

The titty baby crying about how unfairly he's treating PK is disingenuous. It's done. Grow up.

People on here are hysterical no matter what. I don’t care what Sark says in press conferences. He’s got to do better in the portal and our OL has to improve massively for next year.

What's weird and pathetic is that Sark said it at two different times in the press conference. He threw PK under the bus to bail himself out but evidently isn't perceptive enough to understand that it ultimately makes him look stupid.

PK to USC with Lynn goes to PSU has been basically known since PK was "fired" (aka, here's your full buyout, good luck at USC)

Any word on the OC search?

Who gives a fuck about who sark hires and fires, surly will hate any and all moves made. New players and more experience players will make coaches smart all of a sudden. Older team will make a difference next year.

I was being sarcastic, but fuck yeah he needs to hire one and let the new guy call the fucking plays. Sark obviously can't OC and HC worth a fuck simultaneously. Hardly anyone can. It's time for him to admit that and act accordingly.

Wanna know why PK isn't here, this is it. True freshman QB and you aren't forcing him to make tight window throws? What are we doing? These built in cushions have killed us all year. All his time here actually.

#6271

I'd rather he hold out for USC but he's probably longer in the coaching world if he goes to Stanford and not a one year stint where Riley's probably fired midseason after they lose to Indiana, Ohio State, Oregon, and Washington next year.

#6272

Area is great weather, but man thats expensive for a bunch of college coaches (non HC)

Agree its a good way to get out west if you don't think Lincoln Reilly will survive the year, then take another look at who he's replaced with next year

NGL, when that Kentucky frosh QB came in and started coming off the top ropes on our defense I was like, I don't think my heart can take this, even in my 30s. Being a graduate of Texas is different than being a fan. I can separate the two, and as a fan it has become frustrating with the bend but don't break shit when it's breaking.

Maybe we were one of the only teams that was willing to put up with only setting front 7 of the defensive and not the backend coverage.

PK is why I dislike arguing with stat people. Overall PK's defenses were good statistically, but it felt like we were never good when we absolutely needed to be. Penix 430 yards passing. TD 30 seconds before half to Ohio State. 200 yards rushing to Arizona State. No ability to adjust to Stockton coming off the bench. The list goes on. We seemed to always be the lesser defense in the game vs our athletic equals. I think these teams probably got on the phone after looking at the tape and asked Sark why he let him go. To be a coach as long as he has and not understand how to tie your secondary to what you are trying to do upfront is embarrassing.

Yeah, I refuse to believe he doesn't understand it. I have to believe he just wants to focus on front 7 and would like someone else to do the backend, collaboratively I assume. But maybe he really divorced himself from that. Our coverage issues never made sense because PK was so good at defending the run with an honest box. The one year we had a really experienced secondary, everything clicked and I thought it was a sign of thing to come as players got accustomed to our system. But then 2025 was right back to same bullshit as 2023.

Does Byron Murphy suck because UW had 3 draftable WRs, two NFL caliber guys at TE, two NFL tackles, a freshman all American center and a 1st round QB? Maybe that’s a tough combo particularly given a month to prepare. Oddly enough matchups matter.

Tell me what coverage Georgia was in when Ole Miss set up the game winning FG. As terrible a call as it gets. Given the gravity of the situation I can’t think of a worse call actually.

You know, I’m curious about this front-end, back-end bullshit and nobody ever gives an answer. Maybe you can. I’m not looking for generalities but specifics. I’ve read on the internets that PK calls the front 7, someone else the back-end. Unless we’re talking predetermined checks, I do not see the practicality of that. So educate me as to how the hell there are two calls that are seemingly independent yet not.

I’m a child/player of the worst generation of coaches, but I have a clue regarding the game.

This is the last sentence. That’s hostile towards a dude that’s achieved a shit load more on the football front. I’m continually reading references about tying in the back-end, PK calling the front-end, someone else the back-end. Yet those persons never explain that. So when people vague responses to that question it leads me to believe it’s bullshit.

“Penix 430 yards passing. TD 30 seconds before half to Ohio State. 200 yards rushing to Arizona State“

He frequently makes this reference. UW had offensive talent out the ass. They were on. The Murphy reference is because he kicks ass. Maybe led the entire country in pressures but was unsuccessful in getting to Penix. Why? Cause UW is good. Talented opponents make plays. Thought he had some LBer in him. If so, then he ought to be thinking “don’t be surprised by a screen here” not blaming the coach.

The Georgia reference was checking his awareness.

We've heard it from enough sources that it must be true. I assume he sets the run fits and alignment and asks someone else to build the coverage from there. Given that we have run base quarters, cover 3, and I believe cover 2 during his time here, it seems pretty legit that he is flexible with whatever coverage gets built out from his front 7.

I tried like hell to upload video clips and keep getting an error message. Not sure what's going on so I will give you the time of the video so you can watch it.

Below is what people mean when they say the front end isn't tied to the back end at the 36:27 mark of the video

It's 3rd and 8 and UW comes out in 11 personnel and a 2x2 set. We are going to bring 6 but what are we running behind it? The boundary corner is 7 yards off the ball and the safety, responsible for the slot, is 12 yards off the ball. You want to try to force the QB to hold the ball here so your rush can get home and you can get off the field but we give up an easy pitch and catch due to bad alignment. If it's man against this type of alignment with two receivers the man over the slot needs to press while the outside receiver should be off the ball. This guards against pick routes. If it's zone we are too deep as the second level of the defense has been completely vacated. We should be up and bail with the receivers to stay somewhat connected.

But you can see how the coverage doesn't match what you are trying to do and we give up an easy completion due to bad alignment not giving the front any chance to get home.

Thanks for the response. In the vagueness of it all, some leave the impression that two persons are making an individual play call. I’d view your discussion as collaboration on overall scheme. That makes sense. When you run a zone blitz, I cant imagine two separate calls that are not predetermined actions. I can envision checks in certain situations but that’s not what I’d define as a “call.”

I’m a Steeler fan. Blitzburgh. Rod Woodson, fast enough to be competitive hurdler, used to play off the ball quite a bit. That did not preclude him from making plays on the ball. Playing off coverage does not preclude the DB from making plays on the ball.

Now, regarding 2024 pass defense. Sure, we had good personnel, but we were healthy. In 2023 and 2025, we were not. That’s impactful. Having two backup safeties like versus Vandy in 2025 that resulted in a busted coverage TD, well, we never had two backups in 2024 in the game at the same time. And that Vandy offense? More multiple and talented than any offense from 2024’s schedule. In 2023, we played against 15 offensive guys that were drafted in the top 100 in that draft. Some of the “shitty” QBs from that year made NFL practice squads at least. Barron injured, Watts injured. Those 15 don’t include guys like Golden, Bond, Milroe, Will Howard, Devin Neal, Giddens. The offenses were simply harder to defend, likely from a personnel and scheme perspective.

Agree, this one looks dumb. Quite a bit we’d drop the safety down on 4 wide. What I’d question is how often we did this? And in contrast to 2024, we played few teams that could spread us out and go 4-wide so there’s probably an element of playing to UWs personnel.
