I wouldn't say there's no likeable characters because I like Rishi, Eric and Yas but none of them have any sort of redeeming quality. Maybe Rob? This show is incredible and I don't know dick about the financial world they're in.
September 9, 20241 yr Author This show is really good right now. Rob and Yas are my two favorite characters and the plot is revolving around them in a great way.
September 9, 20241 yr Lots of moving parts this episode. Another great episode, literally loled at Rishi's costume.
September 9, 20241 yr Like how they are mirroring the SVB collapse, a bit. Rob is in a position to bring down a lot of people, but somehow I don’t think that’s the direction this show goes. Harper is the/a villain now, right? I feel like her arc this year is like the rise of the secondary villain in preparation to be the main antagonist after they dispense with Robb Stark this year.

September 10, 20241 yr Author Yeah…. I dunno. Has there been anything in the background that suggests she could pull it off? Her new rich Illuminati friends?Perhaps she pushed him off the boat and his body finally washed up somewhere? There’s not much to pull off in that type of scenario.

Ahhhh.... so she's been sitting on this the whole time. Didn't think about that. Trying to consider if that is consistent with her reactions, etc. Probably is.
September 11, 20241 yr Author Ahhhh.... so she's been sitting on this the whole time. Didn't think about that. Trying to consider if that is consistent with her reactions, etc. Probably is. It seems plausible from what I remember. She has been distraught all season and we only saw bits and pieces of the time on the boat. I could picture a situation in which he went after her again, especially if they were both fucked up, and then she pushed him off and never told anyone. More of a self defense than a cold blooded murder.
September 16, 20241 yr Author That was a fantastic episode. Marisa Abela is doing some incredible acting this season.
September 16, 20241 yr the blow up at the end between Yaz and Harper was pretty intense and entertaining, but lacking in some realism. Also, love the call between the Newpaper guy and Yaz... the British politeness/properness juxtaposed against the slimy topic. ha.
September 16, 20241 yr oh, also love the conference room scene near the end with Harper/Petra and the former PierPoint castoffs.
September 17, 20241 yr Author oh, also love the conference room scene near the end with Harper/Petra and the former PierPoint castoffs.Didn’t Eric interview in that conference room at one point? Unless I’m misremembering, I liked that tie-in.
September 18, 20241 yr Incredible episode again, this season is nothing but bangers. This show should get more love.

September 25, 20241 yr The problem for me with the show is that it’s trying to be The Sopranos of the financial world with the major characters as anti-heroes. But there’s no one to root for, every single character is a pos with no redeeming qualities. There’s also virtually no humor and this show could use some levity. Pure intensity wears thin to me.
September 25, 20241 yr The Rob / Yaz B-plot was not super interesting in this latest episode. Meanwhile, the doomsday bunker corporate suit scenes in the office really gave big time Margin Call vibes and was fun as all hell. I think Harper might actually come out on top here and sideswipe Petra…
September 25, 20241 yr Author I’m personally rooting for Rob and Yas to find a way out of this. Eric and Harper are beyond redemption.

I dunno. I crack up at something just about every episode -- usually Rishi, but Sweetpea has been funny as well. And it's kinda funnny watching Harper crawl out of her hotel bed with some dude to her 9 monitor set up, then turns out the dude was the room service guy. "I bet she's a Libra".

Rishi has been my favorite character this season, the Ali G costume might have been the funniest thing I've seen on TV this year
September 25, 20241 yr Author I can totally see the investor guy saying something along the lines of being aggressive, or reckless as he put it, was how he got his money and gives her the green light so scorch everything. Every time Harper appears to be pushed out, someone new and important develops an unexplainable interest in her and pulls her back in the game. She uses everyone around her to her own advantage and stabs them in the back whenever it benefits her. Maybe that’s more apparent to the viewer than the characters in the show, because otherwise I don’t see why anyone would want to work with her.
September 25, 20241 yr Maybe not definition of falling upwards but she sure as shit break her way. Fake transcript, Jesse Bloom, now leviathan
September 30, 20241 yr Author Wow, what a finale. It felt like it should be a series finale but I think the show has been renewed for season 4, so curious how that will go now that the main characters are scattered in all directions.I could see the Yasmin and Rob heartbreak coming from a mile away and it was a gut punch I don’t normally expect from this show. When it’s just her and Rob, she’s a completely different person and looks genuinely happy. Sad to see her throw that away because of her fears over her dad’s fallout and what that will do to her image. Sad to see a shitty person like Muck exploit her vulnerabilities and see how easily money and power can make that happen. Yas never stood a chance in life. Makes you wonder how often that type of stuff occurs in real life.Rob seems like a survivor and something tells me he will turn out ok, maybe more ok than everyone else on this show. The scene in Rishi’s apartment was crazy.
September 30, 20241 yr “Ugh. All these classically educated guys hide their thuggishness behind their verbosity and tailoring” Petra ... And that whole Rob/Yas garden sequence was shot like a hazy daydream *** I'd like to see more Sweetpea in season 4 - she is awesome. Edited September 30, 20241 yr by yoladu
September 30, 20241 yr Author Thinking more about Yasmin’s story, she is the most interesting character to me because we get to see a pretty heavy internal struggle with her. The rest of the characters seem fairly straightforward and one dimensional in terms of their motivations and their chosen paths in life.On the one hand, there’s a version of Yas that looks like she could be happy with a guy like Rob, and leave all the financial mess and the tabloid drama behind. I sympathized with that version of Yas and rooted for her.Unfortunately, there’s also the other version of Yas that shares her father’s blood. She may not be the sex abuser that he was, but she struggles with relationships and she needs the money and grandeur and power. She needs the social status that comes with those things. I strongly disliked that version of Yas.This final episode highlighted this conflict and it felt like watching an alcoholic trying to resist a drink. Yas resisted Henry’s offer to stay another night and resisted his apology at the door to her room, but she broke down when his uncle appealed to her and offered her family and protection. Rob was the guy trying to make a name for himself, driving a rental car, and playing scratch off lottery tickets. Muck was the guy with an inherited fortune, and he may not be much himself, but he could immediately cover every other need that she has.
September 30, 20241 yr The way that dude got the fuck out of Rishi’s apt it seemed like he wasn’t planning on doing what he did but something she said set him off. Kinda like the first scene in the Penguin. I was expecting some kind of speech to Rishi but that dude hightailed it like he didn’t expect to do what he did.
October 3, 20241 yr Binged this over the past few weeks. Of all the shows I've watched, it was one of them... It was entertaining enough (particularly as it went on) but I have a feeling that I will eventually forget ever having watched it - has the vibe of a show where the only time I'll ever think of it again is when something else in some other show reminds my wife or me of something from this show and then we'll struggle to make the connection for a while.
October 22, 20241 yr I am not one to audibly react to the television but I shouted a big fuck you to yas at the engagement announcement. I'd much rather deal with Harper's crazy than yas.
