September 28Sep 28 For reasons unknown, images that show up above like in Brisket’s post appear to me as an orange blank field with a small blue square question mark box in the middle instead of an image. I assume that those are all mostly really choice nude shots that I can’t see while the Texans all laugh…
September 29Sep 29 Had a serious wet cough for 2 weeks after retuning from a weekend with the wife in Chicago. Then Sunday morning I wake up with flu like symptoms Go to the doc today and I have Covid and Flu-b Ive never had Covid to my knowledge after testing several times. The covid cough was just an annoyance but this flu shit is for the birds. And now it seems the flu is early? (did Covid vax and booster back in the day, no flu shot this year but I’ve had them in the past) Being ill sucks.

Like last Friday’s tetanus/Covid/flu triad of shots, my first shingles vaccine shot three weeks ago wound up being a nothing burger as well. It makes me wonder whether my immune system is reacting at all.
September 30Sep 30 Doc recommended a TDAP after my physical last year as it's been a long time since I got that. Didn't get it done but scratched the hell out of myself on a rusty sculpture we have in our house (porcupine made out of sharp, rusty shit) so I'm heading to the pharmacy today...

I got one in the ER a couple of months ago after ripping the ball of my foot open on a nail that had worked its way out of one of our deck boards. I usually don't walk around barefoot out there, but one of the dogs had taken something out into the yard for me to retrieve, and it was dark, and I'm dumb like that sometimes.

September 30Sep 30 Day 4 of Covid after taking a flight to Houston late last week for a meeting. Shit sucks, it’s really kicked my butt this time. It has been much more of chest congestion issue for me this time than head congestion. About ready for it to move on.

Some congestion Sunday, popped positive. Felt meh yesterday. Fever this morning. Congestion now building.
September 30Sep 30 There is some shit certainly going around. People dropping left and right with stuff. Took my first covid test in a few years just to rule out. Negative. Still have yet to pop a positive result. Got the flu and pneumococcal (PCV for first time) this cycle.

October 1Oct 1 I got the Pneumonia and Flu shots 2 weeks ago. I asked for the covid shot also but as my Dr. said, "Thanks to the anti-science folks running the show these days we don't have it yet"

If you are looking for a booster, that is the way to go. Sent my parents a list of places with on hand stock earlier today.

October 1Oct 1 It was talked up a bit in the earlier stages of this thread. But is anyone doing Covid spike or nucleocapsid AB testing anymore? Particularly prior to boosting?

First time I went tho, they didn't have the covid. Pharmacist said she ordered the covid shots, but they hadn't arrived yet, she didn't know why, and seemed kind of pissed about it. Went back two later and they had them. I was speaking of a possible (probable?) future scenario based on the way things are going now. Especially considering that people already travel to Mexico for less expensive drugs and dental care, among other things.

Especially considering that people already travel to Mexico for less expensive drugs and dental care, among other things. Novavax was vaporware shots a few weeks ago. Readily availability now it seems. My go to rec for older adults in the fam that want to boost. For the gas money costs of a trip to Mexico, you could screen for antibody titers out of pocket from quest or labcorp as a screen and also cover the costs of boosting out of pocket if you see fit. We still don't know the correlates of protection. But these are just the facts. Paxlovid, you guys are on your own. There is no clinical data that supports paxlovid use in the current mix of prior infection and vaccination. At $1500 a pop per round, this is just silly stuff that the surly 1% can entertain when they want to dispense with evidence based medicine.

October 1Oct 1 7 minutes ago, KaiserSoze said: Yeah, that must be the answer for him not being an anti-vaxxer. If you want a real rational based approach to this, the gate checks are go through Ab levels (try to squint and see the undefined correlates of protection) or just fall back to risk based recommendations (again, squinting required but this makes most sense from public health perspective imo). This is not a matter of anti- or pro-vax, although I recognize that this is all hopeless discussion in the current political environment. Edited October 1Oct 1 by Anastasis
October 1Oct 1 My goal with getting vaccinated is to minimize the amount of time I spend being sick and missing work, vacations, concerts, other events, etc. because we have so many people who love spreading their sickness that it can be difficult to avoid picking up some bullshit. I don't think it's an unreasonable goal.

I don't think it's an unreasonable goal. It is not at all an unreasonable goal. The question is what are the means to best achieve that goal. Paxlovid is right out not likely to achieve that outcome, at least based on the extant data. Boosting may or may not achieve that outcome. At least to the extent that the evidence is available, boosting with Novavax is the way to go.
October 1Oct 1 I say that as one who did a flu vax and pcv vax today, so that is where my risk calculus is at.

Both times, I felt poorly enough to take pax before the window expired, both times I felt better after a night of sleep. And the second time I really didn’t want to take it because of the 5 days of weird taste, but I just felt so bad I gave in. it could be coincidental, as many cases seem to turn in that 72-96 hour time.
