This throw deserves the MLB thread.

  • So in 2009, my daughter and I were in Omaha at the CWS.  I got an email from her softball coach saying that they had a kid drop off the All-Star team and would she want to replace her?  But she'd have

Beasley is not a good pitcher for this

I knew Gallo would choke just because of this

Barstool hired her this week and immediately started pushing Gallo in the HR Derby. GET THAT BOOST Y'ALL!!!

Beasley didn't do him any favors but that was poor. Oh well. Fun to have a guy in the thing at least.

If Gallo would spray singles and doubles like he did for most of those first 3 minutes he would be a much better player.

Jauss was throwing some beautiful pitches to Alonso.

Yeah. They were dialed in. 35 is absurd. Makes me think he overexerted himself.

Shit... 28 ain't bad either.

Soto should trade for Jauss immediately

Polar Bear laughs at these attempts

If they get to pick their pitch then this.may last all night

He just hit one into the basket of Boss Hogg's rascal lmao

Maybe y'all already know this, but apparently the balls used in the derby were signed by the batter hitting them (ahead of time, of course).  That's pretty cool.  I wonder how many balls each player signed.

I think Soto hit 520, which is the all time Statcast record.

Good for you, Will.  It's not like they have internet technology in South Korea.

I like the idea of the HR Derby but the rapid fire format sucks. Part of the greatness of the event is watching the flight of the ball until the very end and then absorbing that awesomeness for a couple seconds. As is, next pitch is being thrown before you even get to see where the previous ball lands.

Go back to the 10-out rule or whatever it was.

Yeah but then you have guys taking 15 to 20 pitches in a row until they get something in their wheelhouse. You have to cut it down to like three or five outs tops if you wanted to go back to that format. You could cut down participation to 4 instead of 8, or so away with the bracket and go to 1 round only otherwise you're looking at a long ass derby.

This will please most of you.

Seven-inning doubleheaders and starting extra innings with runners on second are likely to be dropped by Major League Baseball after this season.

Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred, speaking Tuesday to the Baseball Writers' Association of America, said he views both innovations as specific to the coronavirus pandemic.

They were both adopted for the shortened 2020 season and kept on for 2021.

Manfred said they were implemented based on medical advice and aren't being contemplated as permanent. He said that while the health situation had improved with increased vaccinations, changes could not be made midseason.

This was honestly a real pain in the ass in person, much worse than on TV.

Easy.  Limit how many pitches they can take.   Maximum of 3 but have to swing on the 4th pitch.

The participants are selecting who pitches to them.   If they can't find someone to put the ball in the right spot on every 3rd or 4th pitch then the participant needs to do a better job of selecting who throws to them.

Way too chaotic.  More isn't always good.   Go back to the old format and limit the # of takes.

If Berman had been doing the pxp last night they'd been looking for defibrillator 4 to 5 minutes into the thing.  In that scenario, I'd have been happy with this rapid fire format.

4 minute round, one timeout, can’t throw a pitch until previous ball has landed. Total homers would go down but the batters might like it more as they would be a little less strenuous.

Who gives a shit how many you can hit off of bp pitching?  Or how fast you can do it?  Each guy should get 10 HRs per round, greatest cumulative distance advances.

It also hasn't been the same since Berman retired, imo.

Didn't they try to implement a system where you cannot throw the next pitch until the last one landed a couple of years ago and the guys that did the best had pitchers that were willing to cheat?

Here is a reference to it:

Per Derby rules, the pitcher is supposed to wait until each batted ball lands before delivering the next pitch. In Harper's case, he was off Schwarber's final-round pace of 18 home runs by five with less than one minute on the clock. Harper began closing the gap, and as the clock wound down, Harper's pitcher -- his dad, Ron, it should be noted -- appeared to break that "wait until the ball lands" rule on multiple occasions.

Agreed, it's not the same. It's way fucking better without that blowhard

Why not use a pitching machine for the derby?  Let each player have it adjusted.

Or use this guy:
