The research they put into behavioral analysis to tweak people to keep putting money in is insane.

I've lost all desire for gambling in the past 4-5 years, and I used to LOVE gambling. Not really the thrill of the win/loss, but loved visiting new casinos, learning about games, and the psychology of it all.

It's been gradual, but at this point I would rather just do something else whereas before it used to always be a great way to kill a few hours. I think it was a combination of continually losing mixed with the fact that if I won, say, $100... who cares? It's $100. It doesn't change anything in my life. But if I lost that same $100, I feel incredibly wasteful and think of everything I could have bought with it instead. Psychology of winning versus losing is fascinating.

And I could never bet bigger amounts that would actually move the needle if I were to win.

Wife and I are the same way.  We couldn’t wait for our trips out to Vegas but last couple of visits, last being 2007, just wasn’t as fun as in the past.  We have a Rivers Casino about 10 minutes from house and we’ve gone maybe 3 x at the most since it opened a few years ago.  Trip to Mohegan Sun is mainly for Pepe’s pizza or Krispy Kreme, we’ll drop a few bucks into the slots for the hell of it.

I think we see eye to eye on that. Still go a bit, maybe 3-4 times a year between mostly local-ish places and vegas.

The big difference for me is planning ahead. Then in my head I consider it part of the entertainment expense of the trip.

Still sucks if you lose it, but not as bad of a hit as it was going somewhere anyway.

It’s the Friday or Saturday night on a whim shit that gets you.

I am thinking about taking it upon myself to make the decision to work from home two days a week. I’m at a new job and no one seems to care to tell me if that is cool or not (others are doing it), so fuck it.

I follow this cardio program on Youtube and one of the participants is still overweight.  Not sure if I should continue to follow and I'm obviously not trying to fat shame anyone.  I just think genetics plays a huge role in appearance.

For some reason I can never, ever get it easily the length of two dates.

So say you are going on a 7-day trip. My mind just can't wrap around that would mean going say, June 10-16... NOT June 10-17.

I still enjoy gambling from time to time, but I'm with you. I'm not willing to gamble with enough money that would actually move the needle if I won. Oh cool, I won a thousand bucks, my wife will spend that before I get back to my hotel room. Meh.

One thing I have lost all interest in is going to vegas. I loved it when I was younger and now wouldn't bother going even if all of the expenses for the trip were paid. I didn't think I'd be such an old grumpy bastard at 38 years old, but here I am.

Old Grumpy Bastard could be a good nickname but when someone called out that name, you probably wouldn't be the only one who responded to it.

I used to have an insane gambling appetite.  Like if a game was on, I had to bet on it and if I didn't enter a bet for that's slate I'd be pissed.  Then I realized, I lost way more than I won and even when I won, I didn't really spend the money on anything.  It's thankfully not a bug anymore (yes I realize I have that damn bet with CTJ), but gambling is horrific and the house/book almost always wins.

Yep, this is what I think did me in. Just time after time of ending up down to where it finally clicked of "this is pointless." Too many sessions of draining down at the start to where even if I'm lucky, I'm at most just back to even.

My weakness, and same with most of my friends, was betting the over on any televised game.  Usually lost, unless I switched to the under.  Were there some thrilling last second wins that hit the over?  Sure.  But there were plenty more missed FTs and 30 yard field goals that cost me a lot of money.  At some point, I just wanted my money back but now I just count it as entertainment fund.  All of this may change the moment preseason football starts.

I was also a different person.  We'd be at dinner and I'd be watching a preseason game intently or SJSU vs Nevada and my friends and family would ask "why does this game matter to you?"  I'm not alone in this either.  We all became better fathers when we quit.

I'll start watching, you know SMU v. Memphis or something and my wife will come in the room and there will be a big play and I'll say "Oh shit" and my wife will stare at me and say, "You're gambling, aren't you?"

I've gambled on one game ever.  I won.

Same for beets.... There was a comedian/podcaster (Carolla?) that said restaurants needed to give a red wristband to people who ordered beets, so they'd remember and not freak out the next day.

I'll bet on some games every once in a while. But every year, I always bet $10 on:

UT football winning NC

Cowboys winning SB

Rangers winning WS

The least favorite horse in the Kentucky Derby.

This year, I decided that was a stupid waist of money. So I didn't place any of those...fuck...

Get some dice, you mofos and we can throw down some jack and roll 'em on your kitchen floor.

There was debate on this or another thread on which side would win in a fight between Star Wars vs Star Trek.

My initial answers is Star Trek. They can beam a nuclear weapon into the exhaust  port on the Death Star. Boom. Game over man.

That said, the Empire has more ships and weapons that can annihilate planets. But they gotta get there first. and the Death Star is slow as shit.

In land warfare though, it’s storm troopers vs red uniforms. Would there be a winner? A lot of red and yellow lasers but no one gets hit.

Same. I still enjoy taking my friends' money at a poker game every so often, but I would no longer bet enough at a casino to give a shit about winning.

I'm still happy to throw $4 on a Powerball and a MegaMillions ticket whenever I get gas or whatever because the cost/benefit is in my favor despite the astronomical odds against me. I am fine with losing whatever that eventually amounts to...

Saw a meme the other day about the one thing the current generation will make extinct is the top sheet. 20 somethings and younger only use a fitted sheet and comforter. My first thought is who are these weirdos? I alternate between hot and cold and sometimes just want a top sheet. Now my kids just said that they sleep on top of the top sheet and only use the comforter. Weirdo comment still applies.

I watched the '75 movie Tommy on a fluke and made 2 observations. It's a very mediocre 70's movie and Ann Margaret was the smokiest of smoke shows.

The Devil's solo is better than Johnny's solo in the Devil Went Down to Georgia.

Also, Johnny called the Devil a s son of a bitch. So he's basically calling god a bitch. Not very southern....

Yeah they do.  They don't want cops having a petty reason to hassle them.

Go around to the bigger P5 schools (Texas, tOSU, USC, bama, etc.) and do a similar show to "cribs" on MTV a long time ago.  Except it is for football players with their vehicles and house/apartment.  I would totally watch every episode.

I'm certain that way back when I saw a "cribs" type show with Ricky showing off his apartment in Austin.  Wane was on the sofa playing video games.
