May 6May 6 I realized something a couple of years ago about a friend I grew up with. I suddenly put together a bunch of random things that, each by themselves, don't mean much; it's not until you put them all together that they form a clear picture. Was really into weightlifting, with several magazine subscriptions, growing up. Only dated one girl growing up -- the super hot chick everyone was hot for... who turned out to be lesbian. The time that one gay guy who moved away came back to visit, and he was far angrier about it than everyone else. Never married. Just one day had that "oh, shit!" moment and figured it out.

May 7May 7 Think it’s bullshit that the White Sox couldn’t use 8 players against the Bears. If the coach only has 8 players, let him play 8.
May 8May 8 Handcuffs. They’ve been the same for probably half a century, or probably longer. Why doesn’t somebody come up with anything better? Like links in the cuffs like a chain, or a strong fabric like ballistic Kevlar that is more form fitting. I see so many videos where people, especially women, can slip their cuffs.

May 8May 8 I have a shoulder that is pretty much devoid of all cartilage. So there isn’t great range of motion. I would be in world of hurt if I had to be handcuffed with hands behind my back for more than just a minute or two. Not sure I could even go that long.

May 9May 9 I have decided that Surly can be a source of useful information as well as just a fun time waste so I am now going to decree an official certified weight to "a Shit Load" and "a Shit Ton" of whatever I hereby decree that a Shit Load is One Dozen Stone so we all know a Dozen is 12 and we all know that a Stone is 14 Pounds........so a Shit Load is 12 X 14 Pounds = 168 Pounds A Shit Ton is One Gross of Stone so we all know a Gross is One Dozen Dozen (from buying fireworks of course) so a Shit Ton is 12 X 12 X 14 Pounds = 2016 Pounds (so slightly more than just a regular fuck all ton) so A Shit Load is 168 Pounds and a Shit Ton is 2016 pounds......if you are paying for either of those and getting less than that weight when you scale out then you got fucked and you need to make a complaint I have taken the liberty of contacting the National Institute of Standards and Measures (NIST) Office of Weights and Measures (OWM) to make sure they have these simple and clear definitions of these important units of measure and I encourage all forum members and lurkers to do the same https://www.nist.gov/pml/owm

May 9May 9 Houston has a fair amount of older us sedans. Usually painted the color of jolly ranchers. With swangas.

Actually just haven’t seen that's because they were unreliable pieces of shit Ever notice how, when you get a new car, you notice that car more? After we got my son's Gen 2 Tacoma, we noticed that there are Tacos everywhere... all the way back to Gen 1. They just... don't die. They weren't erased or cancelled. They were junked because they broke in expensive ways. Hell they broke in cheap ways, but were still more expensive to fix than the cars were worth.

Actually just haven’t seen I see Pontiac Grand Prix pretty regularly, they made them till 2008. 2 Chevys I never see anymore are the Corsica and the Beretta. I wanted a Beretta so bad when I was 16.

Found exactly two on Autotrader. https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/all-cars/chevrolet/beretta/amarillo-tx?searchRadius=0&zip=79111 There is no way they have a 0-mile Beretta if it's used.

It's got 49 miles. I've been to the Volo Auto Museum - fun little day trip in the far NW Chicago suburbs. The movie cars are part of a permanent collection, but there are multiple warehouses full of everything else imaginable that is for sale. This 442 was probably what I would have driven home if I had to pick something. Edited May 10May 10 by Prepuce of Doom

May 10May 10 I have lived long enough to remember drinking Gatorade from a glass container. I can also remember gas being .58 cents a gallon.

I remember $.99 gas and dyed diesel being around $0.49. Definitely remember glass Gatorade with the metal lids. The safety poppers were loud.

Less than a penny... don't think I ever saw it that cheap, although at the Co-op with no state/fed taxes - for Ag use, don'cha know - we paid 11 cents a gallon. I think full price was around 23 cents.

Funny how that relative price has turned out. In the 70s Europeans were driving diesel sedans, mainly because gasoline was $3 or $4 a gallon and diesel was a buck.
May 10May 10 I paid 19.9 cents for regular in 1971 during a local gas war (look it up). They even put the gas in for you. Normal price was around 21.9 back then.

May 10May 10 Forty nine nine was the cheapest I remember. At the Workingman’s Friend gas station around the corner from my grandparents house.
May 11May 11 This should be printed and given to every high school student in Texas as a reminder about life. It isn't fair, easy or free.
May 11May 11 When I was young I was proud of being mentally resilient like, “advertisements don’t work on me, im strong-willed”. And now everytime I see a beer commercial on TV im like “hell yeah, gonna crack a cold one”. Edited May 11May 11 by 52-80
