July 11Jul 11 Renewing a Texas driver license online is a fucking scam. Entered in all of my information, "sorry the information you provided is not correct", okay fuck you let me do it over the phone, "sorry the information you provided is not correct", great now I have to schedule an appointment to do this shit in person. Guess what? First available appointment is AFTER my DL expires.

Goldens who were actually friendly to me are outnumbered by those who never wanted to have anything to do with me. But I've never met a lab who didn't want to be my new best friend. In fact I generally get along with dogs, even Chihuahuas, who are notoriously bag with strangers. Just not Golden Retrievers.

All previous locations I've dealt with over the years were better. I've got to the point where I won't take them at their word about how quickly they'll get my shit done. I'm hoping that their acquisition of Tire Rack doesn't lead to a further enshittening.
July 13Jul 13 I know the macho thing to say/do is a cold beer but lemonade hits the spot after yard work on a warm day.
July 13Jul 13 I try to walk about 3 miles every evening that I'm not traveling for work or otherwise occupied. It's further than Mrs. Doom, the Doomlet, or the dog care to walk, so I walk solo. There's a decent-sized tree along my route that has a weird little Kuato-type of limb outgrowth that doesn't look like it belongs where it is, almost like the tree got the idea to sprout a limb as far from all the other limbs as possible. Whenever happen to see it, I make the same joke to myself - that the tree has decided to open up a satellite branch. I find this joke very clever and amusing, and until now, it has bothered me that there's nobody else who can appreciate it. You're welcome. Edited July 14Jul 14 by Prepuce of Doom Added pictures.

Drop off car, walk across the parking lot, sit at bar until car was done. And they had a great setup for just driving around back, getting the air checked/topped off and driving off. No muss, no fuss.

July 24Jul 24 I read a few weeks ago that David Gergen had passed away and I immediately thought of my high school friends. We used to love watching Alex Jones documentaries online because he would talk about the craziest things and do the dumbest shit imaginable. Around the 2004 election he put out a documentary where he showed up to the RNC in NYC and just went conspiracy theorist on everyone he saw. He was able to snag an interview with David Gergen and it devolved into Bohemian Grove talk. For the next few months we stole bits from it and used it during school. We'd have cx debate trial runs and at points we'd say "sir I disrespect you for that". Our debate coach kept saying why are yall talking like that? Normal people don't use phrases like that. If we saw teachers walking around the halls we'd yell "see you at eyes wide shut, baby". No clue how we didn't get in trouble for doing that but this was mid 2000s. Different era I guess.
July 24Jul 24 If you had done that while I was on the high school faculty in the 1960s, the assistant principal (a former football coach) would warm up your ass with a paddle. Edited July 24Jul 24 by Armybrat To add: A different era indeed.

July 29Jul 29 If we spent a moderate sum of money for travel, clothes, and a gift for a wedding that fails within the first 5 years. Shouldn't we be due a pro-rated sum back? We have met our contract obligation. If the marriage doesn't meet its contract goals, then pay me. Speaking hypothetically of course, if I gave a Mexican cop a fake 50 is that any more illegal than him asking/demanding a bribe? I mean, he's trying to stick it to me, so I stick to him isn't that fair? It has to be funny at least. If I were to get caught and extradited by to the US, I'd bet a prosecutor would find it funny and give me a slap on the wrist.
July 30Jul 30 If we colonize a planet with a 48 hour day, would it be better to roll with it, complete with 20 hour sleeps and 16 hour work days and what not, or split into a day day and a night day?

July 30Jul 30 Watching the road crew chip seal our street with hot oil and fine gravel. This is the second time for this process since we built our house 30 years ago. The street was first built about 40 years ago on ranch pastureland. Guess we won’t drive anywhere for a day or two. Kinda entertaining.
July 30Jul 30 This road crew did a much neater job than the first one 15 years ago. The big street sweeper/vacuum machine will tidy up tomorrow.
