At dinner with my wife's family. My SIL said most of fond memories involved food.

I got to thinking about the memorable moments in my life, and yup, all about sex.

I've been using Google Gemini to clean up some vacation photos - getting rid of background people, adding little touches here and there.

I've also been using it for work doing basic tasks for now, and want to figure out how to integrate it into workflow. Pretty amazing shit this AI thing.

And/or a food generator.

This is me. I never have to actually go to my work, but at least once a week I will go for a few hours because I can't always focus at home. I usually do all the easy stuff at home with the TV going on in the back ground and save the stuff I really need to concentrate on to do at the store.

In my case, I can also get some advice on certain issues from my coworkers, and that is easier to do in person.

Same. When I need to focus I go to a quiet coffee shop and sit outside. A nice coffee, always eye candy, and I focus better.

i like how manufacturers try to be clever about labeling made in china products.

ive seen lots of things read "made in prc" (peoples republic of china).  and now staring at a label of a shirt i have and its "made in anhui".  anhui, i just learned, is a northern province of china.

Are you sure that's not just a typo and it was made in the good old U.S.A in Anahuac?

funny thing related to that is if something is made in germany or france or denmark, itll proudly say so.

if instead its made in estonia or romania, the label is instead just “made in europe”

what this question presupposes is... theyre not 🧐

like, i wonder if they get a minimum wage base-rate on the books just for showing up

just saw that Nick Mangold died at 41, 9 days after publicly pleading for a kidney transplant because none of his family are O+ compatible donors.

AI gave me these stats and they're wild:

-11 people die daily waiting for transplants

-90k people are on waitlist, with median wait time 3-5 years, longest is for type O

Yes. “Chesty Love”. 1988 tax case.

in the original Godfather, the 4-masted barque Moshulu was shown in front of Ellis Island when Vito Corleone snuck away to America in 1901.

however, that ship was not christened until 1904, and only to work the grain trade in Australia. it would not have ferried people or otherwise made berth in New York.

today the ship is permanently docked in Philadelphia to serve as a floating restaurant.

from the age of 0 to Mike Gundy i had basically a hulk-like resistance to any pharmacology.  didnt flinch from a jolt cola, couldnt relate to a 'sugar rush', coffee had the affect of water, nose candy smelled fake.  i basically never got sick, so never had to be prescribed any medicine... though in college even dabbing with occasional rec use of things like vicodin and xanax didnt seem to do shit either.

i dont know what was it about turning Mike Gundy that changed things, maybe it was catching covid the one time, but now im finally sensitive to all that shit. i just sipped an afternoon espresso and it felt like a 9v battery wired across my ears.

That was me and coffee around 35. I love coffee but I get the shakes after like 2 cups. Used to be able to drink it all day.

I like how Mike Gundy is now a measure of time.

So is a score just 1/2 of a Mike Gundy?

And a Scaramucci is 1/2080 of a Mike Gundy?

Damn, sorry to hear that. Mine knocks it out really well, but I can tell if I miss a dose. Probably a good thing it works for me as I never could figure out exactly what would set it off.

Me too. Some times I could eat Mexican food for breakfast, drink margaritas and whiskey. Follow it up with Cajun and Whiskey for dinner. And be fine.

Other times, salad, water, mild food and it would set my heartburn off.

I blame Tom Hermann

It’s the weirdest thing for sure.

I’ve had a script for prilosec for 20 some years. Thought it was just a bad roll of the dice. However I’ve very recently found out that I have Burn Pit Exposure from my time in the ME, and 90% or better of what ails me can be caused by….. yep, burn pit exposure.

I say this with 100% sincerity...Thank you for your service.

Are people who build miniature model trains just into trains, or are they into miniatures?

Why is it always trains? Why so rarely miniature airports or mountain resorts or urban centers or an island or a race car track or etc.

The smoot /ˈsmt/ is a nonstandard, humorous unit of length created as part of an MIT fraternity pledge to Lambda Chi Alpha by Oliver R. Smoot, who in October 1958 lay down repeatedly on the Harvard Bridge between Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts, so that his fraternity brothers could use his height to measure the length of the bridge.[1]

Oliver R. Smoot was selected by his Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity pledgemaster because he was deemed shortest—which made measuring the bridge the most labor-intensive—and he was the "most scientifically named."[2][5] Smoot repeatedly lay down on the bridge, let his companions mark his new position in chalk or paint, and then got up again. Eventually, he wearied of the exercise and was carried thereafter by the fraternity brothers to each new position.

One smoot is equal to Oliver Smoot's height at the time of the pledge, 5 feet 7 inches (1.7018 m). The bridge's length was measured to be 364.4 smoots (2,035 ft; 620.1 m) "± 1 εar" with the "±" showing measurement uncertainty and spelled with an epsilon to further indicate possible error in the measurement.

I knew Oliver Smoot.
We both attended Taipei American School in Taiwan during the late 1950s. He was a senior while I was a freshman.
After he graduated he went back stateside to attend MIT.
Never heard anything about him until my brother met up with him at a TAS reunion 30 years ago.
Then 20 years ago after I started messing around on the Internet, saw the MIT story about the Smoot “measurement” and it’s funny origin.

This was our original campus in downtown Taipei then (the school moved to a large suburban campus in the 1960s):

BTW - Smoot and his frat brothers were drunk at the time, which prompted the “historic” incident.
