April 28, 20187 yr Watching now. This is one of my top 5 favorite movies. ”The leads are weak?! YOU’RE WEAK!”
April 28, 20187 yr What's your name? Fuck you, that's my name! You know why, Mister? Cause you drove a Hyundai to get here tonight. I drove an $80,000 BMW. THAT's my name.

April 28, 20187 yr Author The acting is finominle. Lemon, Harris, Arkin, Spacey, Pacino, Baldwin. And Mr. James Link (Jonathan Price) is The Sparrow on GOT. i can watch this movie anytime, anywhere.

April 29, 20187 yr Who ever told you that you could work with men? (I think about that Pacino scene a lot whenever a millennial working for me complains that we don't focus enough on corporate culture) Edited April 29, 20187 yr by Lobo
April 29, 20187 yr Next time you watch this movie, amongst all the other great acting (& over acting), focus in on the subtle greatness of Alan Arkin’s nodding, put upon “yes” man. Genius. Edited April 29, 20187 yr by mdleast
April 29, 20187 yr As it turns out, Spacey was perfectly cast as the weasel who butt fucks everybody else

June 27, 20205 yr I’m rewatching the film on HBO Max. This material requires a knockout cast. A community theater group could never pull 97 minutes of dialogue.

I haven’t actually seen anything else of the movie, though. a bunch of nancies selling real estate just doesn’t seem very enjoyable. selling real estate is for restless housewives.

You should watch it. It's a bunch of basically con men selling nearly phony real estate and trying to fuck each other over in the process. The actors are good and mostly in scenery-chewing mode. June 28, 20205 yr yeah I don’t doubt it. I was just being a dick. one of my good friends from growing up is a commercial real estate broker and thinks he’s pretty important. I always refer to him as a real estate agent and it pisses him off.
June 28, 20205 yr It's brilliant. Jack Lemmon is a god amongst men in that film. And that's no slight to the stellar cast.

June 29, 20205 yr i went to a "reading" of this at the james bridges theater at ucla (ironic considering the thread starter) about 6-7 years ago. fairly small theater, like a high-school auditorium feel. it was a reading, which is to say, they sat on stools and had scripts in front of them, and behind them there were assorted images (office, bar, etc) and some sound. but seriously, it didn't detract at all, it was basically like reading the play, which is awesome if you haven't done it (the baldwin scene is not in the play, sorry). richard schiff played george, richard dreyfuss played shelley levine, josh stamberg played williamson, and joe mantegna played ricky roma, the role he made famous and won a tony for. the other parts were all played by ~familiar faces, many of whom had received acclaim for their ggr performances other places. there was a discussion on a different thread about a screening/q&a i went to for "house of games" (mamet) with mantegna and ricky jay. mantegna tells the story about mamet coming backstage after another stellar roma performance and basically says, "hey joe, we're gonna do the movie. and before you ask, you didn't get it, we got pacino. but hey, you were great tonight." he also talked about how mamet writes his plays/scripts and literally accounts for every breath of air. every pause, every beat, every comma, every syllable. and never ever changes anything, and never allows any improvisation, or ad-libbing. his writing has a rhythm to it, and he can immediately tell when it's broken by some two-bit actor, and that's not allowed. this was it - https://www.theatermania.com/shows/los-angeles-theater/glengarry-glen-ross_200080 Edited June 29, 20205 yr by henrygandorf mitch and murray
June 29, 20205 yr Wife surprised me and took me to see it live in '07 at Dallas Theater Center- Kalita Humphreys Theatre (Frank Lloyd Wright) before they moved to the Wyly. John Doman (Lt. Rawls from the Wire) played Dave Moss. It was surreal watching how good they were. I should have gotten that in before @henrygandorf's post. Bad ass. https://www.dallasobserver.com/arts/review-glengarry-glen-ross-6375528 Edited June 29, 20205 yr by threesheets

February 27Feb 27 I loved the movie, but it’s nothing approaching rewatchable. One and done. Perhaps, I would enjoy the play more.

Love them both, but keep in mind Blake (Alec Baldwin) isn't a character in the play so if his speech is what pumps your nads the play won't do that for you.

Bob O. killed it as Shelly Levine and Bill Burr’s Dave Moss was funny and very appropriately cast. Michael McKean was awesome too. The definite bright spots for me. I thought Kieran Collin was just okay. Started off slow and finished strong however, but I guess as the most decorated guy (Oscar) he got the biggest response from the audience. He was at his best when he was able to refrain from his signature snark and sarcasm and was at his worse when it felt like Roman Roy acting as Richard Roma.
April 16Apr 16 I showed this to my extended family at Christmas and laughed all the way through. And I was the only one. Turns out only I had seen the movie:

April 18Apr 18 No Use For a Name was one of my favorite bands in HS, and I had probably heard this song a hundred times before I saw Glengarry Glen Ross. Major "holy shit!!!" revelation when I heard that line for the first time.
