You aren’t going to wrap any of those pipes and put a tarp cover on the whole thing?

Hope you’re doing well.

As long as you can keep the equipment running, not needed

Only contributions thus far are from our fearless leaders. Coincidence? I think not.

in the "it's the the thought that counts" department, told my mom to make sure she had all her faucets dripping last night, including in her (seldom used) laundry room.  Turns out that pipes was already cracked and when she got up this morning the carpet was soaked.  Doh.  Water cleaning service already called.

Damn. That's a hard smack. Get that neck checked out - sooner than later.

Nice truck. Crumplezone worked (good job toyota). No way that is totalled, right?

Those expecting water should go get the wet/dry vac now before Home Depot is out of stock. And have the fans ready for the wet flooring.

What a pain in the ass.

That's not a Mercedes and that's not Tarrytown.

Glad you're okay man.  Tricky f'in section of MoPac since it was elevated higher than it needed to be.

Put some hot ice on it and get drunk.

Bravo

I see by your inspection sticker, you don't play by society's rules.  ;)

Levity aside, stay safe out there everybody.  We got a few more days of this shit.

Last time I checked the Governor has suspended car inspections. That was about a year ago and I haven't checked back.

My first thought after I got out of the car was "At least I saved $20 by blowing off the inspection"

Frame on the right side looks great.

Damn, hate to see that blacklab.  Hope your neck is nothing, but get it checked anyway.  Chronic neck/back pain ain't no way to go through life.

I'm pretty sure that I am prepared, both at home and at work, but I'm sure something will bite me in the water pipes.

Post pics of your plumbing disasters due to the hard freeze all over Texas. My contribution. Hose popped off the polaris pump so nothing horrible.

In theory, if you leave all of your outdoor faucets fully open, the pipes and faucet won’t freeze. It will be an ice rink outside but no burst pipes.

We have always wrapped & insulated our outdoor hose bibs and just dripped an indoor faucet that is on an outside wall on the opposite side of the house from the main waterline.

Same here. Also open up cabinets that have water lines to hopefully keep them warmer for the outdoor faucets.

Even with these precautions I worry about temps in the teens freezing outdoor hose bibs and lines.

Yes. These are South Austin birds.

My house was built in 1963. Faucet on drip downstairs.

Homemade hose bibs with towels and duct tape.

I expect all of my pipes to simultaneously explode when the temp reaches 10 degrees.

Modern pool control systems have a freeze mode. If the temps at the pump get below a preset level, the pump cycles on and off every so often to prevent frozen water in the system.
