Look. I’m not saying this is worth $130

But it tastes good.

Finished Christmas shopping for the wife and kids this morning, then snagged this one for $60. Good day boys, good fuckin day

Grab a second if you can. There’s a pretty active trade market for these. I was able to trade my second bottle for a Stagg Jr (batch 14).

Good day yesterday.  Got a blantons call from a list.  Picked up a store pick Blantons from the Village Liquor sale, hit the Specs 4 roses drop and grabbed an OESV and OESQ, and found the sweet wheat and ER at a smaller store for retail.

Anyone get a Weller 12 today?  Sounds like they hit at a bunch of Specs around Houston.

Nevermind the OWA.  I’ll say it again, Redemption Wheated is better than both non-store pick OWA and RY10.  It’s also cheaper and more available if you’re more into the drinking than collecting.

I am intrigued because I think RY10 is terrific.  My problem is that I can't find it out here for less than $100.

R wheat isn’t better than RY10 for my money.

But it’s a shitload easier to find.

Ran up to the Distillery to pick one of these guys up.

Do they have Grand Cru at the distillery? Anything else besides wheated available there that's not on the liquor store shelves? I've seriously considered a one day road trip to Waco to get some of the distillery only stuff. It's become my favorite whiskey brand.

No Grand Cru, as I asked about it specifically. I think they had the High Rye Bourbon still out, which is distillery only.

Various gifts to be distributed

Huge, I hope you got a Double Oak for yourself...

Friend ended up having an extra at his bar. Not my favorite on first taste... hot as hell for 100 proof with minimal complexity.

Will give it another try later as a side-side.

It’s strictly for Old Fashioneds in my opinion. Good proof forward rye, and I don’t like spending much on whiskey intended for cocktails.

Evidently Specs in DFW got a metric shit ton of W12 today and I was so fortunate to only get an Eagle Rare and lied to about W12. Fuckers.

Weller 12 dropped all over Spec's locations in Houston today.

I have one bottle and like it enough. But JFC the secondary pricing is hilarious. I'm gonna pour the 12 into a full 750ML of Poor Man's Pappy.

Only thing I use w12 for.
Don’t care for it by itself.

Nope.
So much better stuff out there in that price range.

Picked up an OLC eagle rare store pick. Excited

Speaking of Rebel Yell I picked up a 1990 Stitzel Weller today to drink while I smoked beef ribs.

Have 7 of the 10 currently in the cabinet, we may have similar “cheap” bourbon tastes.

The only one I don’t have is Rebel Yell. Similar tastes indeed.

Also, I relent... the Old Overhoot BiB Old Fashioned is outstanding.

I’m a Buffalo Trace Boy, but it makes a better Old Fashioned than Baby Saz. You need some heat in certain cocktails.

Well then it’s a good thing I went by GG today in hopes of landing something like that.

No. Worth $45 on novelty and $25 for fair value. It’s good! But it’s not top shelf bourbon.

Well, I know where I’m going after I pick up tamales tomorrow morning.

It’s good and has lots of stone fruit notes that I really like.  Value is a weird thing, but I’m not mad that I was drinking Stitzel Weller on a beautiful afternoon even if it’s 80 proof.

I already have tamales in the fridge. Just head straight over.

No, a good 9-11 year Elijah Craig pick is better and under $35.

I had the HH BIB 6 year for $20. It was appropriately priced. I don’t think adding a year gets you to $60

Don’t care for it by itself.

Me, too. I lucked into a 1.75 of W12 a few years back; after a couple of drinks, I used the rest to make PMP. W12 is just too smooth for me.

Just opened up an Elijah Craig b520. Got damn. Glad I got two.

Passed on one last week when I snagged the ‘Nick and the Charter, but only because I have 5 bottles of SiB right now.

Sounds like I fucked up.

Honestly I’ve never had anything like this before. I know everyone is geeked up about the Rye, but this stuff is like candy in a bottle. Very unusual.

In case money is no object for one of you, just spotted a Pappy rye that ships.

Saw Old Fitzgerald 9 year for $299 the other day. Is that realistically about the best price it can be found?

Maybe. I would pay retail for one, but the juice isn't even supposed to be very good. It's a trophy bottle.

Yeah, I’m not interested in trophy bottles.

Good. So Old Fitz should be an automatic pass at secondary pricing for you based on the reviews I've read.

After I took this shot I couldn’t believe I blanked on Woodinville, so if I had to swap the Ezra would get the axe.

TOP 10 RYE:

Just uncorked a Woodinville today. Must agree it is a great option worthy of this top 10.  Thanks

That’s sad. Old Fitzgerald used to be the gold standard after prohibition. Then vodka came along.

Tonight’s lineup will include the following. I’m psyched that I don’t have to assemble any large items this evening so I can truly enjoy these.

Enjoy your drams, fellas.
