I passed as well today.

Their cheapest bottle isn't bad for high $20s (don't remember exactly what it cost me), but that to $50 is quite the jump

so back in early january i got tipped off that a west coast chain restaurant was doing a whiskey of the month box, and they knew the picks from the first 5 months of the club.  the chatter also was that spots were limited, and to sign up then in order to get grandfathered in every month, and that you wouldn't be allowed to sign up right before the bottle you wanted, etc.

the closest location to me is huntington beach (about 55 min) but seemed like spots were filling up quick.  by later that day, all the locations were sold out.

january was high west double rye.

then today i picked up this little guy (the reason i joined):

april is a double box - buffalo trace + eagle rare.  may is blantons.  no info past that, but i'm happy with my decision.  car ride sucked.

also, yes, the elijah craig hat is awesome, and yes, it fits me terribly.  it fits my wife perfectly and now it's not my hat anymore.

Utter shit day started when our new puppy broke her paw in three places,
But my awesome wife told me to honor my promise to our son to take him camping today.
So he’s snuggled in the tent snoring and I’m doing this.

Day doesn’t suck as much now.

Is smoke wagon small batch a buy for ya'll at $55? I passed, but am wondering if I should buy it if I see it again

yes

Debating whether or not I want to get the second Prideful Goat batch at Ryan's Liquore for $125 pre-tax, while potentially having to wait in a line. Supposedly better than the first batch, which was really damn good

Just did. Got there right in time too

Overheard at Spec's Smith 20 minutes ago

"Is there anything in particular you're looking for?"

Female: "Yes I need to get a bottle that's about $50 for a special occasion"

"Let me recommend Walking Stick to you. It's really good at this price point"

"Thanks!"

I would’ve walked up after and tell them,
Don’t buy that horse piss, get a bottle of 1920.
Fuck Specs.

let me jump in here to ask what y'all rec for the $50 range for a gift/special occasion?

ECBP C920 worth $90 buy? I had a couple of bottles of the A release and really liked it but it was about $20 cheaper

OF Whiskey Row Series. All of them are good. Try the BiB or the 1870. I’d assume you’ve already had 1910 and 1920.

1910.  mm private select.  wt rare breed.  russell's reserve single barrel.

that's if you like the person who's receiving the gift.  if otherwise, i have a different list.

Does the person like bourbon? If so follow gandorf’s advice

if not, buy Jack Daniels Single Barrel Select. It has a fancy looking bottle and it’s only $45

C920 was the best of the bunch last year and they were all great (though A was a tad too hot).

John J Bowman Single Barrel. Should be $45-50. It’s distilled by Buffalo Trace, but aged in Virginia.

Listen to this man.  I would add 4R Small Batch Select and Smoke Wagon Small Batch.

Enjoying a little taste of Texas tonight.

then i woke up in bed.

Smoke Wagon Small Batch is probably worth $50-55 if you've never had a bottle, but it's not a repeat purchase IMO.

Now I’m on a quest to find that hat. If your wife wants to sell it have her DM me.

yeah, having it not fit right was one of the more significant bummers of the past several years that included a once-in-a-century pandemic and a capitol insurrection. still stings a bit.

I had a couple pours of the NASA Liquor Doc Swinson’s store pick last night. My goodness, it was tasty. I’ll probably swing over to Ly’s on Monday and pick up a bottle.

600 bottles of Prideful Goat Batch 2 were sold by 10:30 this morning at 3 DFW area Goody Goody’s.

My buddy gave me an Elijah Craig barrel proof for my birthday that’s 138.8 proof

The grand reserve thing you qualify for if you achieve 25,000 points in a calendar year (works out to $2,500 dollars without any multiplier buys)

You're registered for the Pappy lottery right ?

Today I saw Bardstown #2 and WR Double Oak SP each at around $60.  Should I prioritize one over the other or just get both?

Not sure which is more dead, this great bottle of MGP or KU’s basketball team.

I opened Disco 4 during the Horns game with some guys.  Oops, just about cashed it.  Need to find another.  (bottle and coach)

Must have meant Fusion series 2, which sells for ~$60

get both.  all the bardstown is worth tasting, fusion or discovery.  they're doing interesting stuff as ndp's.  they've kind of bypassed the barrel folks.

woodford double-oaked is also an excellent bourbon.  not a collectors bottle, but a great drinker.

sorry, i forgot bardstown is distilling, just not been doing it for that long.  i was thinking they were blenders for some demented reason.

If you are looking for Buffalo Trace there is a ton at the Twin Liquors off Pleasant Valley & Riverside.

My kid had baseball practice over by there yesterday so I swung in to take a look around. I know there are some BT fans.

1792 12 Year has been dropping around Atlanta but so far I have struck out. Anyone had the latest?

If anyone is flying international from DFW tomorrow afternoon, they might be surprised By Looking At Nice Things On Nice Shelves in the duty free. $60, a little birdie allegedly told me...
