No, Disco 10 also had it.

Ha. I got a call for rock hill farms. Dad showed up and they gave him a ew sib. 🤷

17!

How are the old ones?  I've only had up to maybe 12?

ive only had one willet purple top and its  one of the best bourbons ive ever tasted.  very memorable.   it reminds me of the birthday bourbons.  unlike any other bourbon out there.

I've usually preferred the younger ones, but this 17 is really good.

How many of yall are hiding from your wife when you sneak through the door with that box?

Anyone try aging their own whiskey?

Been reading forums where people are buying small charred oak casks (1-3 gallons), filling it with vodka and letting it age. Because the ratio between the surface area and liquid is much higher, a year in the small cask is equivalent to ___ years in a standard cask.

Experimenting is totally up my alley, but don’t want to spend $ if it’s gonna taste like crap.

I fiddled with something like that years ago. I bought bottles of rotgut and then added pieces of charred staves. It’s interesting but way too inconsistent doing it that way. The mini cask would probably even that out a great deal.

In my experience, you have to rotate the cask once a day or it leaks. Yield is also very poor. You’re going to lose 30% to the barrel.

If you want to dip your toes into experimenting, I’d suggest a mason jar, BT White Dog, and some charred staves.

Most Whiskey Cakes have a cask on location. I’d ask them for tips.

Weller Millennium and OGD16 seem like they will be firmly in my wheelhouse… wonder how silly pricing will be…

Might as well be $10k
You won’t ever see it.

I could see OGD16 being “attainable”. Knob 15 wasn’t extremely hard to find, and Knob 18 spent some time on the shelf outside of Houston. Many people won’t touch Beam.

They could price Millennium like Double Eagle and it would still sell out. Agreed with BigD, the plebs will never see it. It’ll be a restaurant or bar only thing.

what batch is it?  whats the asking price?  its probably going to be a yes, no matter what your answers are. i've killed two of my six bookers just recently, only to free up shelf space.   i'm getting turned off on the higher proofs lately, but there is a lot of flavor in these.

I'll have to look at the batch. I'm guess the price is around $65. I'll have to ask.

If you can get bookers for $65, get all you fucking can.
Retail on them is now around $115

As soon as I get back in town, I'll check it. It could be $100 for all I know, but generally this place is under market.

The Booker’s at Spec’s in the Woodlands was, I believe $120 last week.

I can’t believe I found this there.

BFLT recommendation? Check. Breaking bourbon gave it a good review? Check. 12 year rye for $50? Check check. Well know you have my attention. Nose is really nice. Viscosity in the glass looks really good for 92 proof. First sip….I thought there was no way there was that much of a dill note. So I let it breathe. Nope. It’s still there. It’s not completely off-putting. But it’s definitely not something I’ve tasted so predominately in a rye. I’m a big Rare Breed fan and I think at this price point I’ll stick with the Turkey product. But I will continue to revisit this bottle.

More for me. It’s steal at sub $50. The new standard is $10 per year in the barrel.

I was wrong. The Bookers was $120.

So... How do we get a list of the things to buy in this place?

I'm a newb, but I like the Bourbons.

You should know better on that Ezra Brooks crap.

Lolz… this Shaker pick is actually quite nice.

I’m not snagging shelf EB [emoji23]

A lot depends on how much you want to spend, of course.  As someone just getting started, I think you can get a lot of enjoyment in the $40-80 per bottle range without breaking the bank.  It allows you to get a handle on what you like in terms of taste profiles (e.g., sweet vs. spicy, etc.)  After that, you can always move up and start spending more per bottle on pricier stuff if you feel like it.

Stuff in that range that I happen to like would include:

Old Forester 1910

4 Roses Small Batch Select

4 Roses Single Barrel

MIchter's American Whiskey

Russell's Reserve Single Barrel

Pikesville Rye

Knob Creek 12

Woodinville

Redwood Empire Lost Monarch

FWIW, Larceny Barrel Proof (A 124 batch) just got awarded best in class in a big spirits competition, and you can still find that bottle in this range.

Store picks are often a good choice in my experience.  Not always, but often.

There are also decent bottles below $40 if you are selective, but in general I think the $40-80 range is kind of the "sweet spot" for getting good value while still drinking something worthwhile.

Other people on this board who know far more about bourbon than me can chime in with additional suggestions.
