December 21, 20241 yr Roma Discount Liquor on Antoine is closed. I asked around town. “Dude was doing some shady shit. They closed.”

We’re talking about a liquor store named after Gypsies. Did they promise a free bottle of Pappy with every roof replacement?

Sazerac indeed owns Barton and Buffalo Trace, but I don't think BT is distilling 1792 unless I am just completely out of the loop. The Barton distillery still runs independently out of Bardstown, which is a good couple of hours away from Frankfort where the BT distillery operates.
December 21, 20241 yr Good luck to the unwashed masses. I have a strategy I’ll share on the evening of the 28th.

December 21, 20241 yr Haven’t seen EHT SiB on the shelf at or near msrp in years. Walk into two different shops in Colorado and find that, Bowman SiB, Hancock’s, a pallet of BT and two different JD BP picks. I am seeing a lot more stuff on shelves than I’ve seen in a long time. And at reasonable prices. A lot of Willett, HH, EC and Larceny BP and barrel picks, McKenna 10, lower level Bt and Weller all on the shelf. In the last month I’ve picked up at MSRP or reasonable markup EC18, ETL, Hancock, EC private barrel, Larceny B24, Stagg jr, EHT BP, and a few others. I pass on stuff I’ve already got multiples of to leave for others, so left similar on shelf. And I’m seeing a lot more of the unobtainable bottles in the wild, just not at prices I will pay.
December 21, 20241 yr Damn. Should’ve gotten a few more of the coy hill. I liked it too much. I’ve got an unopened bottle. Not sure 143.1 proof is my thing. I’m in Austin and travel to Houston and Dallas.. if you want to talk trade send me a PM.

December 24, 20241 yr Less than a mile into Missouri, in a place called Pineville, across the Arkansas state line on Hwy 71 is a place called Macadoodles. They have end caps filled with “allocated” bourbons along with a sign that says “One per customer.” I almost took one of the store pick Larceny bottles. I do like Larceny but as I was pulling the bottle away I saw this behind it. I don’t know anything about this nor have I even seen it or heard about it. But I took a chance on it because it said Willett on the label, it was $43, it was on an end cap, it was the last one, and it said “private stock” on the label. I’m willing to bet that at this price point I won’t be disappointed. Unless one of you says it’s an $18 bottle at best. Then I’ll just throw some Coca Cola on it. I did walk out of there with an EWSiB (haven’t seen this in Texas recently and it was the last one on the rack) and what looked like a really good rye. All 3 bottles right at $120 out the door. I already partook of the wheat and I was not disappoint. I know what I have in EW. The Johnny Drum is the great unknown…..
December 24, 20241 yr $40 is right on for Drum. Nothing special IMO but it’s generally solid and makes for a good mixer.
December 24, 20241 yr Help me understand flipper logic. A bottle of handy costs $450 on secondary. If you said hello to people at Walmart for 40 hours, you’d come out ahead, get to sleep in your own bed, and spend Christmas with your family indoors. That isn’t worth any sane person’s time. I’ll shoot down to Smith in the afternoon, and get some picks. My wife will be overjoyed. Edited December 25, 20241 yr by billfromlaketravis
December 25, 20241 yr Maybe Lot B is better than ORVW? I’m enjoying the fruit notes. A bit unusual in the BT wheaters.
