GG is always MSRP in my experience.
March 3Mar 3 I think it only fair that I get a 24 and a KR so I can have my own side by side comparison. Need a 24 too but that’s another story. Thanks for the replies.
March 4Mar 4 The King Ranch price increase was unfortunate. It created a malaise around the bottle, and turned a very good product into a shelf turd. They also hit Texas with a tsunami of cases. You have to walk around the display in most mom and pop stores in Houston. Smith Street kept about a shipping container worth of it in the middle of the store for weeks. 1924 is probably always going to be a tough get unless they release a shit ton of product like King Ranch. It’s the same recipe as King of Kentucky. Most of us will never taste KoK, so of course everyone wants to try the next best thing.
March 4Mar 4 1924 and KoK taste nothing alike. I am frankly befuddled by the love for 1924. I got one of the first batch of bottles and thought it was absolutely nothing to write home about. Isn't it essentially just a rebranded Early Times?

March 5Mar 5 Old Forester ET, KoK and 1924 are all the same high corn mashbill. Just aged differently.

An extra 5-7 years of heat cycling will change the profile materially. But I pick out many common flavors.
March 5Mar 5 And obviously with the sale of ET, KoK revived that mashbill and was the only one to use it until 1924. Not every barrel gets to become KoK for a host of reasons. So it’s a poor man’s, younger KoK, that is sold outside KY (even if in limited quantity). Edited March 5Mar 5 by Bert Orange
March 6Mar 6 Plenty of parallels between 1924/King of Kentucky and Weller 12/Pappy Van Winkle. I don’t blame folks for wanting to try it. The hype is an unfortunate side effect.

But it's priced at $170. Don't think they've sold a single bottle in 3-4 weeks since it showed up.
March 7Mar 7 After reading this and having just paid $80 for ETL at Spec’s I’m concerned BT is going up across the board. GG is always MSRP in my experience. Went back by NW Hwy today. They too are at $56.99 with stock on the shelf.

March 8Mar 8 1 hour ago, RMac5 said: What’s a fair price on that out in the wild? MSRP was right around $200 after taxes. It’s good, but the JD Special Release from a couple years back is the GOAT American Malt Whiskey. It’s probably cheaper on secondary too.

March 9Mar 9 Very personal decision given that spread. I’m a big fan of OFSiB, but 129 is pretty damn hot. If you like finished whiskeys, I’d grab the Madeira and never look back.
March 9Mar 9 Picked up Goody picks of OF BSSIB, OF BSSiB Rye, ER this week. No complaints here. I’m liking the correction so far. Edited March 9Mar 9 by stork642
March 9Mar 9 Final decision. I feel like you should always go with the pick. I’ll go back and grab the Madeira on Monday.

March 9Mar 9 It won’t remind any one of the old 14+ year Longhorn Steakhouse picks, but their new 9 year old pick is pretty good.
March 11Mar 11 Found me some OF24, actually found 5-6 but only purchased 1. They had OF KR too, it was $95 and the 24 was $115. I am drinking the 24 right now, it’s good and pretty easy drinking, not overly impressed. Should have bought a KR to do a side by side comparison. Live and learn

March 14Mar 14 Secondary and prepare your anus. Speaking of, if I wanted to unload a few cases of high end hooch, how’s the secondary market looking these days?

March 14Mar 14 OK, Austin peeps. I'll be in Round Rock/Hutto area next Friday for a funeral. Where is the best chance of finding some 1924 in the area? I don't mind paying more than MSRP in this situation.
March 18Mar 18 Tempted to neg because it's not bourbon and, quite frankly, for rubbing it in. I bet that is delicious.

March 25Mar 25 I have returned. I drank a ton of dogshit Hornitos during rodeo. The good stuff tastes that much better now. I revisited the 124.7 proof Woodford Batch Proof from a few years back and loved it.
