November 4Nov 4 I think I’m one and done with 1792 Sweet Wheat. It just tastes like young 1792. Nothing special. I probably won’t revisit the NBC Stella’s Stash either. It’s printed nowhere on the bottle, but it’s almost certainly double oaked. It was darker than a cup of coffee. Just not my jam.

November 7Nov 7 So the new Old Fitz 7 BiB for $60 seems downright reasonable compared to plenty of new stuff out there. Am I being too benevolent?
November 7Nov 7 Hitting total wine today for a birthday tonight for a buddy. What would you snobs suggest in the 80-100 range that's not the obvious Blanton's or Garrison Bros type of stuff. Bonus points if it's slightly more obscure. He likes Bourbon, but he's not a snob about it.
November 7Nov 7 Still Austin Cask Strength Rye I mean that would be greatly appreciated for MY birthday at that price range.

November 7Nov 7 Specs in Dallas on Central and Royal had Penelope Valencia todayhttps://shop.penelopebourbon.com/products/valencia

The Bardstown Single Barrels are really good. They will run you around $70 If you can find it and willing to spend a little more, Bardstown Discovery is even better.

November 8Nov 8 I was growing tired of average wheaters, so I wanted to try something good for a change.
November 9Nov 9 Got a sample of the Tanyard Hill Rye Special Release.136 proof.Holy fuck balls.Tremendously delicious whiskey.
November 13Nov 13 Just got this one in the mail. I hadn’t heard of Ironroot before I found this bottle, but happy to see them well regarded here. Lost lantern is an independent bottler that buys individual barrels from small distillers. Their flagship products are blends of these barrels and then they also have a single cask series. I keep an eye on breaking bourbon’s reviews to see if any of the seasonal releases are unusually good in their eyes. Obviously whiskey reviews are highly subjective, but I’ve yet to be disappointed by something that rated very highly. Of the 2000+ reviews they’ve done only ~60 have gotten 4.5 / 5. Since value is one of their ratings, things that are solid and cheap get a boost while really good but overpriced limited releases get dinged so there a TON of bottles that get 3-3.5 and a decent amount that get 4. So when I saw this come in at 4.5 I was very happy to see that it was still in stock. It was sold out by the next morning. https://www.lostlanternwhiskey.com/product/ironroot-republic-double-barrel-bourbon/

November 14Nov 14 14 hours ago, BigDHornfan said: I love IronRoot. Looking through their website it seems like it’s the Harbinger mash bill. 60% yellow dent corn, 30% bloody butcher corn, 5% floriani flint corn, 5% elbow rye). The Ironroot website doesn’t give the % but the harbinger is the only one with that combo. So I guess it’s essentially a harbinger double oak single barrel.

November 15Nov 15 Probably my favorite “oaky” bourbon. Just a pleasant sipper that is pretty simple. They could price it better, but I believe industry standard is $10 for every year in the barrel. At $160 a bottle this is a little under that. I guess Heaven Hill wants to keep it that way because it’s a legacy offering.
November 19Nov 19 I'm in the RGV and went to the liquor store the Mrs Mo goes to and gets me all kinds of good stuff. Sitting on the shelf for $56 was a Colonel H Taylor. Crazy!

November 20Nov 20 Another great line bites the dust. ECBP C925 is 9 years, 1 month. Other than alienating people, what are they trying to do?
November 20Nov 20 I haven't been drinking much lately and haven't had any bourbon for probably 6 months now. I've been meaning to go through my collection to figure out what of my favorites I want to keep for the odd time I do drink bourbon and pull the rest to give to friends. I finally did it today and poured a few while doing so. I finished the last oz of my KC2001 I'd been hanging onto and now I'm sipping on some Weller 12. I don't miss drinking almost every other day and I'm not going back to that habit, but this stuff sure is good.
November 21Nov 21 Nice prize. I wanted to like every taste of Angels Envy more than I did. I also wish I had a case of EC18.
November 23Nov 23 Opened one of these yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. It’s $110-$120, but probably has my favorite finish of the year. I should probably caveat this by saying I haven’t bought much in terms of new bottles this year. Definitely way better than the Old Fitz 7. Edited November 23Nov 23 by USCATX
November 23Nov 23 Making cocktail with bourbon for Thanksgiving and would like a recommendation from this cheap list:
November 23Nov 23 For cocktails, I'd go with the EW Bonded. Cheaper and a higher proof point to hold up better to all the mixers. Not one thing wrong with that juice.

You might as well buy OF100 it’s only $8-9 more than 86. Jackie Zykan let it slip once that tbeh blend 8 year distillate in OF100. It’s excellent.
November 24Nov 24 My rankings of the cheap 100 proof bourbons. 1) OF100 2) Tom Moore BiB 3) Benchmark Bonded As Bert outlined in some previous posts, Tom Moore BiB is an outstanding value pick. It’s a handle of 1792 BiB for $22. I think you’d have to work for Barton to tell the difference in a blind tasting.

This rare bottling is known for its rich and complex flavor profile, which includes notes of cigar box, toffee, dried fruits, spices, and oak, with a full-bodied and oily texture. It was released in limited quantities in 2025. Currently goes for about $1000 on secondary. Buddy got lucky and won this one in a fireball for $100. Cracked it yesterday. It's delicious and those notes listed above were pretty spot on.
