No idea about his combine test, but I’d guess we’d have heard if he failed it. In theory, sure, smoke em if you got em... but maybe when it’s affected your ability to make a shitload more money right off the bat, you might wanna think about not doing that anymore. He was on mayocks best available list for like 3-4 rounds and kept getting passed up. Unless he has some other off field issues we are unaware of, that is. Edited April 29, 20187 yr by Etexhorn13
April 29, 20187 yr Laremy Tunsil had that picture pop up right before the draft, and he still went round 1. He had to have something else happen for him to go undrafted.

MN is a much better place for him would’ve been better. those athletes aren’t negatively affected physically by smoking weed. he’s going to smoke anyway and he can still be an elite athlete doing it, just like a substantial portion of the NFL/NBA. in SF he wouldn’t have to worry about being arrested for it. literally all he has to do is pass his one test a year until the shit gets scrapped in the next CBA.

April 29, 20187 yr If he uas it together, he will both make the roster and getting a ton of PT in Minn. Exactly the kind of corner they love and they are a bit short on corners right now. Will be cheering him on. Hook Em.

April 29, 20187 yr I never thought weed was the sole issue with Hill. More to story than we need to know. Good luck, Holton. Hook 'em.
April 29, 20187 yr This has to be more than weed right? He was suspended a whole year under Strong. There are posters here hinted at knowing what it was but wouldn't post why he was suspended. I cannot imagine gms passing on a very good 6'3 200lb CB for liking weed.

I cannot imagine gms passing on a very good 6'3 200lb CB for liking weed. it’s that simple. they don’t want to spend a draft pick on someone who might be suspended for multiple games. it’s precisely the reason randy gregory slid to the 2nd round (and probably further if jerry were dead). he had zero issues with anything outside of being a pothead. holton is not nearly as elite as tunsil or gregory were from a prospect standpoint, so GMs stayed away.
April 29, 20187 yr He wasn’t suspended all year. He sat out most of it and looked like shit when he played.

April 29, 20187 yr He was suspended by Strong. The next year with a new coach he is kicked off the team supposedly for failing at least 4 in house drug tests. Getting shut down both your sophomore and junior seasons for disciplinary reasons by two different coaching staffs is a receipe for going undrafted. Tunsil had one picture but was never suspended. Big difference.
April 29, 20187 yr lol Holton was far from shit. If he didn't have off the field issues, he would have been drafted higher than Connor. Edited April 29, 20187 yr by thepop

April 29, 20187 yr It's a joke to say "so much better in City A than B". Drugs are everywhere, especially if you're rich. Fuck being penalized for taking drugs and more power to a future where teams can look at a player and say "you lose your $, because your drug use makes you insufficient"

Getting shut down both your sophomore and junior seasons for disciplinary reasons by two different coaching staffs is a receipe for going undrafted. Tunsil had one picture but was never suspended. Big difference. It takes a special kind of a) stupid or b)blatant disregard for the rules or c)both to miss that many drug tests at Texas. After you miss the first 2(?) in house tests, they tell you the exact day that they will be testing you. All you have to do is piss clean. He couldn't even manage that. I'm pro marijuana legalization, but lets have an adult perspective on this. If you have an opportunity to make millions of dollars and all you have to do is avoid one substance for ~10 years (if you're lucky), you do what is asked of you. "Hey, Holton, you have an opportunity to play at a D1 school with an insane pro pedigree at your position. All you have to do is not fail five drug tests over 4 years and you're guaranteed to make a couple of million dollars." And an even more honest take is that over half of the team smokes pot. A large number of them pop once or twice, especially in the spring or after summer. We don't hear about it because it is dealt with internally. Why is Holton getting singled out? Because he is the only one making it a problem. From what I heard about Strong's take on a college lifestyle, it was "if you can do it without me hearing about it, great. But the moment that shit lands on my desk, I'm going to make you pay hard." Holton ran up a tab with Strong, which put a bullseye on his back with Herman. If Holton pissed hot after Herman told him not to, with Herman trying to establish his presence in the locker room, I don't see how Herman could possibly look the other way. Everybody was playing by the same rules and only Holton was dumb enough to be the habitual line crosser. And that's the key issue, not the weed itself. Yes, the weed rules in and of themselves are stupid and arbitrary, but they are still the rules. Not following them hurt himself and the team.
