It was must watch TV. I would wake up every Sunday and watch the Tom Landry show and follow it up with the NFL Today. RIP Irv!

Didn’t realize that he was a pioneer as the first African-American on a nationally televised sports show. I grew up thinking that you always had former players on the pregame show and the fact that he was black wasn’t a big deal.

The NFL Today theme was played by the high school band at pep rallies and at games. It just immediately signified “FOOTBALL!!”
