I like how he immediately points out that he's too old and then sticks with Beilein anyway as the best choice.

Tim Brando is also too old and wants CBS to believe he is the best choice.

"The first call Chris Del Conte will make is not to Texas Tech’s Chris Beard but rather to Kentucky’s John Calipari.

CDC leaned on Cal to find coaches before, and expect him to again to determine the best person for this job.

According to a pair of sources, the candidates are Beard, Houston’s Kelvin Sampson and Loyola Chicago’s Porter Moser.

With openings at Indiana, Oklahoma, Cincinnati and now Texas, plenty of good jobs are available, and opportunities for agents to squeeze some more hundreds of thousands out of athletic departments for their clients.

Do not rule out Cal’, who has been at UK since 2009. Although his program has been “around it” since he arrived in Lexington, the team has one national title in his tenure, in 2012."

We've been a solid NBA pipeline for years now and all we have to show for it is a NIT title. I'd rather our next coach focus on winning college games, not NBA prep. The good players will make it.

We havent had a guard/wing drafted since Cory Joseph. Guards/wings are the key to CBB success and having elite guards can put you over the top.

I don't believe Sampson, with two separate NCAA incidents, is a likely candidate at all.

People are throwing Calipari out there and he had a final 4 appearance vacated at 2 different schools.

this 1000x.  get great guards and a couple of shooters and the rest will work itself out.

I don't see this as realistic either.  He's not going to take $2-3m less to coach here and we aren't going to pay him $8-10m/year.

This is Texas and basketball.  Beard's $5-6m is likely as high as we'd go.

Def wouldn't expect it to happen THAT quickly.

If it's Beard, likely won't hear until end of next week to get past the 4/1 date.

If it is someone in the tournament, gotta wait until they lose.

If it is someone out of the tournament and not Beard, early next week maybe?

But I don't foresee it stretching past April 4 or 5.

The CDC timeline is O/U of 48 hours right?  I may take the under given the out of the blueness of this news about Shaka.

By all means please continue your straw man rant highlighting your poor reading comprehension skills of my initial post.  We are all waiting to hear more.  Fussy? Lol.

You have a very odd definition of "rant".

You're twisted around the axle because I scoffed at your lean towards frugality in a Beard VS Ivey choice.  I'm saying nothing more than "frugality" has nothing to do with it.

I lack no reading comprehension.  You brought up the size of the contract.  I'm just saying you're an idiot for doing so.

Point taken. I'm just passed the point of caring how many guys we get drafted. It has meant nothing to the Longhorn basketball program.

We know the game has changed during the Rick-Shaka years. So we need a better recruiter/developer/coach. Wasn't Ramey supposed to be that guy?

Either way, we shouldn't be worried about how many guys the next coach has put into the NBA. His job is to win NCAA games. If our next FF team is filled with Euro/G League guys(whatever position), who cares? We're here for the Longhorns.

Zhaire Smith (16th overall pick, can't stay healthy -- 13 NBA appearances in two seasons with about twice as many games played in G-League)

Jarrett Culver (6th overall pick)

Matt Mooney (mostly G-league but a couple of NBA appearances)

Tariq Owens (mostly G-League but a couple of NBA appearances)

Jhami'us Ramsey (2nd round pick, mostly G-League but a couple of NBA appearances)

Still can’t believe his luck with Culver. Don’t know how many lottery picks grow up in Lubbock of all places. Like OU getting Trae Young from Norman.

Ramey was never thought of in that manner. Andrew Jones before his leukemia had the potential to be thought of as a high level pro prospect, but Ramey doesn't possess the athleticism garner a lot of interest from the NBA. Young pro prospect bigs are luxury items. They can throw you over the top provided you have the necessary parts around them, but they're rarely the difference makers to take you from average to good or elite.

Whenever Texas fires a coach, everyone thinks we are entitled and obviously made a mistake. Even in this situation where both parties mutually decided to part ways, Seth Davis was calling us out for not making it work with Shaka.

Noted. I had him confused with Jones, I guess.

Back to the point though, worrying about how many NBA players a college coach develops is asinine. Elite college players don't always translate to the pro game. As long as our college coach can develop/teach elite college players that's all that matters. Whatever position.

Here's CBS's list of top 50 draft picks. How many of those guys are still playing or will still be playing after Sunday?

Give whoever $4.5mm as a base.  You win the conference, another $500k.  For every time you win in the Big XII, another $500k.  So you win the Big XII and make the FInal Four---$7mm that year.  Not bad.

Sources at Kansas indicating they thought Beard would stick at Tech longer and they could make a run at him when Self retires in a few years.

How realistic is Jay Wright?

Unless someone can actually point to some verifiable data point, I don't believe for a second that Altman or Wright is anything but the most opiated wish-casting.  They're lifers where they are unless they somehow get fired or Wright decides to try his luck in the NBA.  I believe in Hank the Hallucination before these absurd ideas.

Plan 2a is to get Ivey as the HC, John Beilein as the assistant HC, Cal will come in to recruit assisted by Petino. We are bringing back Springer to recruit KD to play out his last 3 years.

We threw $8 mil per at Cal and he passed.  Considering it was less than he currently makes, I suppose m not surprised. It did give him pause apparently just to see if he could pull it off at UCLA.

$8mil would give you a great townhome in Brentwood, as long as you don’t mind AirBNBing the 2nd room out.

Right. Basically taking a 70% paycut if he had left Lexington for LA.  Cal has no reason to leave Kentucky for Texas

Hush, you harlot.

I don’t give a shit about if the Cal discussions are completely delusional...  It allows us to get our obviously expected Ubran Meyer level freak on and still allow us to be let down in the end with it still being a home run hire.... sorta like how it turned out with Sark.

Let the unwashed masses get their hope up desiring the unattainable realizing that even if we can’t land the 96 lbs virgin porn star with DDs we can still knock it out of the park with the “backup” option. Let the poor plebes dream you sadistic fucks!
