McCasland is an outstanding coach and Texas basketball would give its left nut to land him.

And then we'd always have to worry about the Baylor job opening up.

I don't completely understand the poo pooing of this hire. Maybe expectations were too high regarding who Texas was going to be able to bring in? Sometimes there's a candidate that's such a perfect fi

No one needs to coach the fucking Bulls for the rest of the season give me a break.

Zach Collins is a coach on the court.

Texas ain’t gonna hire anyone who hasn’t proven it yet at the P4 level

So Rodney Terry is a non-starter.

You mean, hire anyone again?

Dont get your twat all twisted, we could hire McCasland tomorrow if we want.

Chuckle, okay.

We should revisit the intricacies of why the RT hire was different than a typical coaching search for a millionth time!

Would Texas ever have the balls to hire a dude coming off a few NIT seasons at North Texas?

If we want the next McCasland, go get McCullom.

Nope.  McCasland has coached everywhere from JUCO to the international level.  He is more proven as a recruiter and is vastly more experienced.

If CDC hires Sean Miller I'll start a new account here and let the community vote on what it should be named.

I submit - Mark Few's Chauffeur

There will always be intricacies in coaching searches and hires. McCasland was there for the taking.

But we were never not going to hire RT after that run, no matter how much the surly rabble wanted us to.

Great. Big difference here is we’re hiring.

Whatever fallout that may have occurred would be long forgotten by now as Texas was would be getting ready for its top 3 seed appearance in the tourney with a McCasland coached team.

Yeah, but you know how Texas operates when it comes to brand image.

True. Keep thinking inside that box, Texas.

Miller is the floor. Not a bad hire, but pretty underwhelming.

Yea, I think there are better options than Miller too.

Sean Miller would be the first hire that wouldn't immediately ignite the fan base at the outset since, well, Sark.

Yeah that was my first thought. That I was wrong about Sark and could be wrong again.

I could talk myself into Miller.

I'm not buying it yet though.

My point isn't necessarily to dress up a Sean Miller hire as "could be awesome". It's that if it happens, it's another data point that when we have to hire a coach in a sport that the entire college athletics world invests in, it's suddenly not so easy to get a "home run hire", even with CDC at the helm with Texas resources.

And I will again point out that almost every hire by top 25 programs of late has been an up and comer, exceptions being disgraced coaches (Beard) or sitting head coaches looking to get out of Dodge (Musselman, Calipari).

Track-record wise, he’s pretty solid. My guess is if this is the established name for Texas (which also make sense why there has been so few other names floated) and has been the name for a while, then we are 2-1 it happening.

Not my favorite name, but with the brand and NIL just having a solid legit coach as a floor goes a long way.

Regardless of the result tonight, Terry has done enough to deserve a few more years as the head man of the UT men's basketball program. Momentum. Hype. Horns.

Mark Few?

Do people really think he's interested in leaving Gonzaga?

26 years in bfe

62 years old

3-year deal at double his current salary?

make him say no

Possibly, no. But he has been there 26 years and CDC can afford to pay him way more than Gonzaga. A challenge and a new start.

i am going to agitate like a motherfucker for drew and anyone who doesn't get on board can kiss my ass

Eh, I think he'd say no.

Sean Miller would get schooled by Bruce Pearl, Oates, Barnes, Pope, UF guy, Calipari, etc. Would be firmly in the middle of the pack in the SEC.

I replied what I did because right before you commented I had the thought of "Well shit - it wouldn't be totally dissimilar to the Sark hire and Texas is laughing all the way to the bank on that one"

THAT SAID...

I think Texas and CDC are absolutely in the position to make a splash hire better than Miller and I think that is what is about to happen.

If I'm wrong and it is Miller then Surly gets to have some fun.

Kinda following the cdc pattern of media throwing around a name that ends up being dead wrong

I say Lloyd is the play because Auburn is making a big play for Arizona’s WBB coach and I really don’t think Arizona can pony up the money to keep either coach. They broke as a joke

12 years ago saban was the obvious replacement for mack

there was no one else with a resume anywhere near saban

at The University there is a standard

Who would SMU Fuckface hire?

Usually the media is so in the dark there aren't even leading names thrown around.

The best Indiana could do with all their history was the WV guy. Either they suck at hiring or there were slim pickings out there.

I think Few is closer to retirement than he is at taking a new job.

I expect to encounter headwinds here, but I'd rather go after Pat Kelsey at Louisville than Sean Miller.  It won't happen for several reasons, among them not enough P4 experience and not being shiny enough for the BMDs, but he's a better coach than Miller.

I'll be shocked it we hire a Sean Miller level coach.

This slapdick aint doing shit in the SEC.

Miller is boys with Jeff Goodman and the whole Field of 68 network. They’re probably just trying to get him a raise.
