UT's next basketball coach - discussion/debate [Sean Miller Hired]

If RT leaves for another program voluntarily, say USF as been mentioned, then that 4-5 million could go to another coach yes?

I think it's common to have some sort of offsetting language in coach contracts if they get a new gig. Someone would have to file a FOIA to find out for sure though.

Although USF is very familiar with the tactic of backloading a contract to fuck Texas.

I don't completely understand the poo pooing of this hire. Maybe expectations were too high regarding who Texas was going to be able to bring in? Sometimes there's a candidate that's such a perfect fi

And yes, it looks like things are coalescing around Miller

yep, unless something totally unforeseen happens it’s miller.

agree with what you said- good hire, but there other guys with higher ceilings. just have to trust cdc, and see if miller can cut it in the sec with a more level playing field when it comes to just buying players.

my big fear is that we spend 6-8 years being pretty good but never truly great, meanwhile other younger, better coaches are taking other jobs, while we settled for a lower ceiling coach who also happens to have prior baggage, just like so many other cbb coaches we refuse to even consider.

instant reaction: somewhat gruntled, not supremely thrilled though. i see this as a david pierce level hire.

there is still a huge rumor floating around, i will say that. don’t see it happening, but it still has legs.

I’d rather stay with RT than do that.

Going to be stuck with a coach that does well enough to not be fired but isn’t going to win a title.

So par for the course for Texas men's basketball.

Well this is dumb.

As the husband of a die hard Zona hoops fan, I’m telling you guys are going to learn to loathe Sean Miller. He’s a shit human being who bitches about everything and underperforms to expectations. He’s a terrible hire.

she did with me ... multiple times in fact.

Rather wait for right guy than mediocre hire now.

Unfortunately, he’s not wrong. If Sean Miller is the best you can do, stick with RT for another season and see who’s available next year.

We might.

Lol now we’re full circle to keep RT

If Eltife can't get who he wants, I wouldn't put it past him.

Who is the better hire next year that is worth tanking a season for that we aren’t willing to pony up for now?

Rod, we can't find a suitable replacement for you but by all means stick around another year for us, will ya?

Ben McCollum? Nvm he will be a p4 coach somewhere else

Well he ain’t going to make 3.2 million at his next job

Why not hire him this year if that’s who they want? I’d like to think we can currently outbid Drake

Not my choice but the he hasn’t coached p4 before crowd is pretty loud.

Fair.

So the entire history of mens college basketball at Texas?

Where are you seeing that is who they want?

Nowhere, they clearly don’t. I’m curious what people think is going to change next season that makes another year of RT worth it.

If the Texas money people open up their wallets, we can get pretty much anyone. The question then becomes how much money we have to spend.

You would think we would learn

Or, and this is real possibility, we might be OK with it.

Seems just as true today as a year from now. Unless we think being forced to watch one more year of RT Texas Basketball will make them willing to spend more, which is plausible I guess.

No, another year of RT isn’t worth it—not at all.

We are seeing what the consequence is of valuing perception over making a hard decision. RT should have never been hired, even after that run.

Quit starting shit. We all know CDC’s MO. You’re being obtuse to start something.

McCollum is expected to take the Iowa job.

If Miller is the guy, this will all be over tomorrow. If it is him and it is not annoubced tomorrow, it’s just fucked from the jump.

Yep. No reason to wait, already players going into the portal.  If it’s not done by Wednesday, it’s not Miller

Who would want Luck, a college and pro football quarterback, had a high position in the NCAA, and was a University of Texas Law School grad over the likes of Steve Patterson, for shame.

Is it just me or is this too much noise for a CDC hire?

Wasn’t the lone hang up with him was that he wanted Mack gone before he took over and Patterson said he’d can Mack’s ass?
