March 23Mar 23 Considering he hyped up Weaver on two different occasions leading up to the game I’m assuming that is going to be his top retention priority

March 23Mar 23 Man i wanted Miller when Barnes left in like 2015....not sure I want him in 2025 but whatever....as long as spectacles is gone.
March 23Mar 23 I mean there wasn’t a home run realistic hire anyways. Change needs to be made and miller is the best. Everyone else has a massive buyout and the nba guys or jay wright was dumb af anyways and never was gonna happen.

True basketball schools expect to be playing on the second weekend of the tournament, they don’t jizz in their pants about a guy who gets you there every now and then.

We have a more recent FF than Zona. And a more recent EE. And one less EE since 2001. Zona has more sweet sixteens but you don't count those apparently. Miller obviously wasn't my first choice but I trust CDC and I don't think it's particularly difficult to win at Texas. Edited March 23Mar 23 by ztejas
March 23Mar 23 Miller may not be the hot hire, but he a solid coach and he's never had this much NIL and strong AD backing, and that's a winning combination.

There's only a handful of Texas fans who think we're a basketball school. It's always been third behind football and baseball.

Yep, and Arizona fired Miller’s ass and sent him packing back to Cincinnati because he wasn’t getting it done. The expectations at a place like Arizona get a guy like Miller fired.

March 23Mar 23 Holy Shit, if true. I knew him, at Pitt, well enough to talk to him. Not friends and all but, friendly. I think he is a good coach. If there is plenty of $$, which I assume you all have because, Texas. I think it can work out really well.

But not every school has the resources to fully fund them, like we do Starting in the 2025-26 academic year, the NCAA is implementing changes to scholarship limits and roster sizes, allowing schools to offer scholarships to every athlete on their roster and implementing new roster limits across all Division I sports.

The Shaka fuckup in between isn't indicative of how Texas operates when it doesn't have a total fucking dipshit AD handing out bad extensions.

People keep saying he’s such a good guy, yes publicly. I hope the next coach can coach and treat the players with respect. You mentioned this before. In general, I’m not a big believer in coaches who scream and yell so much that they treat athletes poorly. With that said, a ton of highly successful coaches are not easy to play for and yelling and screaming is often part of the formula for success. Beard is a screamer, as are many other top coaches. The real question is whether the behaviors cross lines, or are the players simply not mentally strong enough to take the “coaching”.

Livengood was CDC’s mentor - it’s uncanny how many of CDC’s traits and mannerisms are so similar to Jim’s - so I still think there’s a level of familiarity with Miller from that association. As an aside, while Livengood hired Miler, he was long gone by the time Miller was fired.

Nothing I heard made me think RT crossed any lines. Players apparently thought he was weird and a little too intense and didn't like him very much but nothing would lead me to believe he shouldn't coach again. He was coaching for his job basically the whole season. Guessing stuff like that makes it less fun to play for the guy 🤷

March 23Mar 23 Miller should be an improvement over RT but it's not an exciting hire. The guy has been mediocre at best the past 6 years. He was good in his first Xavier stint and at AZ while he was paying players under the table but pretty weak since he got busted.
March 23Mar 23 Sean Miller doesn’t excite me much, but I’ll get on board like I always do. Feels like this used to be a much more coveted job post Rick Barnes. Shaka turned down the UCLA job, but took ours. I don’t think a similar thing would happen today, we’ve got some image rehabilitation to do imo. Terry/Beard/Shaka all catastrophes for different reasons.
March 23Mar 23 Is this really the hire that excites our money to get on board? He better win big quick.
