Not orange sir.

Ever the fashion conscious, Chris chose to go traditional in captivating black and white slimming stripes.

I feel like we’re just wasting time, but we’re not.

CDC is probably burning up the phone lines, his white board out with possible candidates and their buyouts, his money guys at his side.

It's not often you get a unanimous opinion on something like this. I am unaware of one single person who wants Terry back next year. Impressive.

I think there are still a few in the lets wait and see category.

Maybe RT’s girlfriend but that’s about it.

Oh and all the other SEC coaches

Grant McCasland, Texas Tech

Ben McCollum, Drake

Greg McDermott, Creighton

Brad Underwood, Illinois

Brad Brownell, Clemson

Richard Pitino, New Mexico

I’m waiting for the tech people to guarantee mccasland would never come here, then that’s my choice.

I know he's scum, the incident I recall was threatening an international recruit's visa if he didn't sign, or something like that, but I don't recall the broader picture. What did he do that prevented top Texas talent from even visiting Texas? This is a very real question. Every Big 12 team has heard about Drew's negative recruiting but I never heard specifics other than the visa thing.

it was simply that he was willing to do anything to grease the right palms to funnel players towards him and away from texas, especially since back then programs like tech and a&m weren’t really on the national scene. so he had it to where all of the major “handlers”, HS, and aau coaches loved him for “taking care of them” while rick barnes refused to do the same. at one point he hired john wall’s aau coach to be an assistant at baylor as an easy way to funnel money to wall and his people. wall obviously isn’t from Texas, but that was one of the more egregious examples of what he was willing to do to make baylor a player both in Texas and nationally back when recruiting was basically at its slimiest. barnes wouldn’t go that far, plus drew was always bad mouthing him, and as a result Texas got locked out of the top flight in-state talent for a long tome

So you hate him so much because he used the systems in place to his advantage to acquire talent? Maybe if Rick had done the same he would have been more successful.

I can't speak for everyone who was in that category, but I have seen enough.

I'd prefer we hire a great coach who is also a good person, if such a combination actually exists.

Vertical stripes are slimming, horizontal stripes are the opposite.  (Ask me how I know.)

Big Texas bball fan- had to get it out of my system. I already feel better. Btw I was rooting for him but knew deep down it wasn’t going to work if we want to maximize our bball program.

his name was jay wright.

in all seriousness, let’s check out the recent champions:

dan hurley- LOL, first team AA asshole

bill self- i personally like him but he’s been a crazy cheater

scott drew- HOF slimeball

tony bennett- classy, but arguably the biggest tourney choker ever. did win it all though.

jay wright- classy

roy williams- not a choir boy, but he’s fine

coach k- same as roy

kevin ollie- oddly he’s lacking in the “good coach” portion of this equation

rick pitino- unanimous HOF scuzzball selection

coach cal- lolololol

you can keep going back to find guys like jim calhoun and billy donovan, but it seems like the assholes and slimeballs are winning more than the classier guys. just wait until bruce pearl or kelvin sampson wins it this year.

is TJ Otzelberger tied to Iowa State in any meaningful way?  if not, that feels like a guy who should be able to be pried away.

Calhoun is/was a cheater for sure.  Donovan belongs in not a choir boy/could be asshole IMO but yeah.  Bennett and Wright seem to be closest to good guy and no cheater status.

T. J. Otzelberger

On June 1, 2013, he married Alison Lacey, former ISU women's basketball standout, former WNBA player, and former coach of the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team. They have three children.

meh…

Indiana* and UNC (if they pull the trigger, which they absolutely should) both are bigger programs for a college basketball coach imo. Kinda sucks timing-wise.

* might be the Nebraska of CBB now which always makes me laugh

Coincidentally, Indiana and UNC both opened in 2021 when Shaka left and Beard came to Texas. Of course, I would expect UNC to conduct a national search this time around instead of promoting internally.

One could argue that RT disproves this theory, but I'll say this:  our ability to throw NIL money at the recruiting side of things should help negate concerns about recruiting when it comes to hiring a successful lower-tier coach.  And, as we all know, RT never lit the world on fire as a head coach.  The guy from Drake might do just fine here if the machine is fully engaged in getting the right players.  At the very least, money should be the least of our concerns when it comes to recruiting.  If it's a problem, then Texas is just not ready to be a "basketball school".

Didn’t we lose out on Toppin due to NIL?

No idea.  I'm just saying NIL *shouldn't* be an issue if we're really serious about men's basketball.

When we hire Scott Drew, Bliss will be brought in as a "shooting" instructor. He believes in just relaxing and taking the open shot, breathe deeply and pull the trigger.

Art Briles will also take McConaughey's place as the "Minister of Culture."

Does hiring the guy from Drake reinforce the suggestion that we're really serious about men's basketball?  I'm not sure it does, and I would assume that it would impact how much NIL is available.  CDC needs to hire someone who will generate excitement.  I have confidence that he will.

I'm not sure.  Has NIL been a part of the problem under Rodney Terry?

I wouldn't know, but it could probably be better.  My limited understanding is that our floor is higher than most, but I would still assume that there is a direct correlation between having program buy-in and NIL contributions, at least for those who make sport specific donations.
