March 24, 20214 yr DOH!!!! https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-56505413 Quote Egypt's Suez Canal has been blocked by a large container ship that ran aground while turning in the narrow channel, vessel tracking sites show. Several tug boats were deployed to help shift the 59m (194ft) wide vessel, the Ever Given, which has been causing a build-up of shipping traffic. The incident occurred just north of the port of Suez early on Tuesday. The waterway connects the Mediterranean to the Red Sea, providing the shortest sea link between Asia and Europe. The Ever Given, registered in Panama, was travelling from China to the port city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and was passing northwards through the canal on its way to the Mediterranean when it became trapped. The ship, built in 2018, is operated by transport company Evergreen Marine. A photo posted on Instagram on Tuesday, reportedly from someone on board another cargo ship - the Maersk Denver - directly behind the Ever Given, shows the trapped vessel with what appears to be a small digger clearing soil along the bank.

March 24, 20214 yr Where's that Aggie truck at the boat ramp? He could have this whole container ship on the trailer in a matter of minutes. They'll be jamming to Pat Green on the way to Chili's in no time.
March 24, 20214 yr I read not a woman driver, ship lost power (described as suffering a "blackout"). Sorry, no link.
March 24, 20214 yr Yeah, it did lose power. I can't prove it, but i'm guessing the fucksticks at ERCOT were behind it.

March 24, 20214 yr If it did lose power, it really wasn't their fault. A ship that big is going to be pushed aground pretty quickly in strong winds in a narrow space.

March 24, 20214 yr On a more serious note, oil prices jumped 4%. https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/oil-price-brent-crude-suez-canal-blockage-container-cargo-2021-3-1030240995 Quote Oil climbs 4% after a grounded container ship blocks key Suez Canal trade route Oil rose as much as 4% on Wednesday after a huge container ship ran aground and blocked the Suez Canal, a key shipping route for crude and refined products. The blockage raised some concern about fuel supply. Overall, the price of oil is set to fall for the third consecutive week this week. Another round of lockdowns in Europe could threaten the recovery in demand growth and have undermined some of the recent strength in the oil market. One of the biggest container ships in the canal ran aground early on Tuesday and is stuck at a right-angle to the passage. Hundreds of cargo ships are now unable to pass through the canal, forcing them to divert their routes. It is unclear when the issue will be resolved. "This could have an impact on movement of oil and consumer goods." Deutsche Bank strategist Jim Reid said in a daily report.
