there's so much to unpack from today, so i'll just start listing them. tuesday was devastating for oakland, today was twice as devastating for the yankees.  they had just started to play better.

The boy and I were at the last ALCS clincher - we were walking on air for days after Altuve’s walkoff. Today, the boy is 5,000 miles and 7 hours away, with no way to watch. So we did a video chat, w

  • Enjoy it. Old Altuve, no more Correa means this is the very end of the road for your tainted dynasty.

Fuck it.  Get to Fried early tomorrow with at least one of their big three relievers unavailable.  We just took two of three in Fenway and we can damn sure do it in Atlanta.

I don’t feel too bad. Just a bad night and they came out quick. We got this

Well,

Altuve, Bregman, Correa, and Yordan can’t do much worse, so let’s go.

One of those things is not like the others.

If I know this team, particularly in the post season, it’s the Braves’ turn to prepare their anuses manaña.

I forgot about the triple and the Correa walk.

This pitching staff was never going to sweep. So whatever, on to the next one.

3-20 for the last 23 game 1 losers. Fuuuuuuuuck. We’ve done it before. It could happen again.
Let’s fucking go. Come on Urquidy.

Bats not what they should have been tonight, wondering if Craig Biggio was allowed to help coach hitting since he was always awful against the Braves in the playoffs. Biggio brought enough lumber back from the plate against Braves to build a three bedroom house. Go go get em Game 2!

Thought experiment:  Would you rather have won tonight and have Framber out for the series or have it the way it is now?

I'm not sure.  I think Framber will bounce back and throw a good one in Game 5.

What is the record for consecutive World Series home losses?  Did they show that today?

"Today is the first chance you have to change the rest of your life."

maybe entirely too deep, but put yesterday behind us, and LFG!!!

Sucks. If our bats had a pulse last night, we’re likely adding Odo and the bullpen performance into Astros lore.

Whatever. Let’s go even this thing tonight.

It’s not just that- he’s also your best PH against right handers and you’d think we get a righty somewhere down the line here. But that’s why you roster 3 catchers for this very reason.

Someone should tell Atlanta they need to add a 3rd catcher.  Neither the Rays nor Dodgers carried three catchers last year.   Neither the Astros nor Nationals carried three catchers in 2019.  Red Sox carried three in 2018 while the Dodgers went with two.  So in the last five years two out of ten rosters have had three catchers.

You don't need three catchers.

Lead off walk actually better than a lead off HR when down by a few.

Borrowing stupid takes from John Smoltz is never good.

AL east keeps sending these one hit wonder teams like the Nats of ‘19 and it’s starting to have the same feel as ‘19.

Let’s go win a baseball game tonight

You don’t need 13 pitchers either

the Astros had 3 catchers when they won the World Series and if they didn’t we wouldn’t have been able to pinch run Fisher and might still be playing game 5

Those other teams also don’t have a starting catcher that hits so poorly he’s the 2nd worst hitter in the major leagues.
we had one real chance to get back in that game after it became 5-0. We had a shot and we did t take it.
it was strategically stupid. The plan should have always been to pinch hit for Maldonado any time you are down significantly in the middle of the game. They could have. They didn’t. It sucked. Should have gone with Diaz or Marwin against the lefty down 4 with runners on the corners and 1 out. Maldonado got the. It’s important bat of the game (slightly more important than Altuve bc we could have scored a run without a hit so it was more meaningful) and that’s just terrible strategy.
he literally needs to be treated like a pitcher when those decisions are made bc his bat is basically that bad.

I am typically not one for jumping ship on someone....like I never wanted Springer to move out of the leadoff spot when he was struggling, but I think Bregman is on another level of suck this year.  I don't think he is going to snap out of it.  At least we knew when Springer got hot he could do it for a stretch.   Sure Bregs may hit one more homer this world series, but I think I would have to drop him to the 7 spot at this point and move Tucker to the 3 hole.  Bregman isn't scaring anyone right now.

Yep. Except you probably don’t want to do 3 lefties in a row. Against a lefty starter. 7th is good but I’d move Carlos 3 and Yuli to 5. Swap Tucker and Brantley against the lefty. Order just isn’t as important as we make it out to be though.

Out of curiosity, just calculated how many runs we've given up per inning this postseason and it's pretty wild (and absolutely matches how things have felt):

1: 10

2: 12

3: 13

4: 4

5: 3

6: 2

7: 1

8: 6

9: 1

Yeah i know it ain't gonna happen and 3 lefties screw everything up but man 2 extra base hits in 11 games from your 3 hole hitter is rough.

IIRC, Springer started off the 2017 WS cold. Lots of baseball left.

That's one of the drawbacks of using a post-season tournament to determine a champion.

Bregman is going to have to rethink his approach at the plate.  You can't insist on only trying to hit pitches that are in your sweet spot.  He needs to work on going the other way on stuff on the outer half of the plate or something.  He's been a shell of his self since 2019 and his power has evaporated.

His entire demeanor is different.  He hasn't been the same since he carried his bat to first in the 2019 World Series.  He went from one of the biggest personalities in the game to 2019 Kyle Tucker.  Bizarre stuff.

I was thinking since the HR derby but this works, too.

And yeah I agree.  He can't take that at bat with 2 men on and us down 4.

Yeah I know. I’d say Diaz but RH Marwin against a lefty is certainly better than Maldonado. And probably better than Castro against a lefty. I’d also trust him more than SIRI I think. Rank ordered in that spot I’d go:

Diaz

Marwin

Siri

Castro

Greinke

Maldonado.

the Greinke over Maldonado is a joke but just barely.

also, don’t marry an aggy. I wish someone had been around to tell me that ~10 years ago.

And that’s fair.  I’d be interested to see the numbers on which results in more multi-run innings, a leadoff HR or getting the leadoff man on base.

Yeah, he'd been abysmal in the ALCS.

Yeah, and he sucked in game 1 too before the fire got lit for the rest of the series

we can only hope for the same for Tuve/Bregs this year

I have said this 100 times. Someone should compare pre-bat carry Bregman with post bat carry bregman

The line up / batting order was more than good enough to get us here, it’s good enough to win it all

players need to do their job

if breggy's gonna go full villain and talk shit when we're kicking ass, he's hitting the shit outta ball, etc then he needs to do it all the time - no fucking half measures.

These guys have always turned it on when needed.  Trust in the team to come ready to play tonight.  LFG.

I’m going to go with pre-engagement (and/or wedding) ring and post

maybe he’s still stressing about getting their deposit back from La Cantera
