Let the non-rebuild rebuild begin!

Projected lineup:

  1. Alex Verdugo, CF
  2. Xander Bogaerts, SS
  3. Rafael Devers, 3B
  4. J.D. Martinez, DH
  5. Christian Vazquez, C
  6. Bobby Dalbec, 1B
  7. Hunter Renfroe, RF
  8. Franchy Cordero, LF
  9. Enrique Hernandez, 2B

Projected rotation:

  1. LHP Eduardo Rodriguez
  2. RHP Nathan Eovaldi
  3. LHP Martin Perez
  4. RHP Garrett Richards
  5. RHP Nick Pivetta

(E-Rod obviously not ready to start... Tanner Houck expected to be the #5 starter until he's back.  Sale will return... at some point?)

Prospects to keep an eye on -- Jeter Downs (could play in 2021), Triston Casas (probably won't get called up until 2022), Bryan Mata (injured now, could be a back-end starter in 2022).

They may suck (again).  But *IF* injuries aren't an issue, they could contend for a Wild Card.  My prediction?  84 wins.

Getting swept by the Orioles at home to start the season. Not exactly a good sign.

No shit. What a horrible start to the season. Devers being benched is a bad sign.

Break up the O’s ...

Yeah, this may be a long season (But, of course, it's very early). Need to get E Rod and Sale back, and the bats need to get going. This is not a division to play mediocre baseball in and hope for the wild card.

Hey, they won a game!

In other news, the "Boston Marathon" uniforms are weird.

Quite the surprise to sweep the Rays after the dumpster fire that was the opening series... speaking of, maybe they can beat the mighty Orioles today.  Maybe?

E-Rod is back and starting today.  (It's also the MLB.TV free game of the day.  Starts at 2:05 central.)

Fuck yeah.

Good start for Rodriguez after missing last year. BP looked solid. Devers had a dinger. I will take it. Time to listen to Tessie.

I have a feeling the Marwin Gonzalez signing will turn out well this year.

Game today vs. Twins postponed... because of a police shooting in Minneapolis. Great.

(I’m just ticked because they had a nice win streak going.)

Well, if they can't get their momentum back after this postponement---they can always take solace in the next of the great baseball dooms---the Curse of the Bambino, the Curse of the Billy Goat, and the Curse of the Dyslexic Asshole Cop.

7 in a row baby. Devers and JD both have 5 HR's. Devers has 4 in the last 4 games. Looking forward to the double header tomorrow.

The 7-game winning streak by the Red Sox is their longest since a 10-gamer in July 2018.

  • Author

Whoa... Game 2 is only 7 innings? Wild.

They sure turned it around after that Orioles sweep to start the season.  Still not sure how good this team is but it beats the crap teams they have rolled out there the past few years.

  • Author

Eh, it was fun while it lasted.  Start a new streak tomorrow vs. the White Sox.

  • Author

Had they played 9 innings in Game 1, the Sox would’ve won. I cannot be convinced otherwise.

cannot say that for sure, but I do not like this 7 inning crap. Play the game boys.

  • Author

Eddie Rodriguez now has 31 straight starts going at least 5 innings. Not a bad stat.

Good win tonight. Damn Patriots Day yesterday always sneaks up on me. It’s fun to chase a good pitcher early.

Going for the stupid-ass two game sweep tomorrow. This is the longest home stand of the year, so wouldn’t be a bad time to string some wins together.

But the team has performed well on the road. Hell, performed well anywhere. Is it the Cora effect?

Rough loss for sure. I hate to lose in extra innings. Shit, I hate to lose in any innings.

Nice win tonight vs. the Mets.  First national broadcast game, IIRC.  Going for the two game "sweep" tomorrow, facing some guy named deGrom.

  • Author

Fun fact: Nick Pivetta’s 10-pitch at bat tonight was the longest anyone has against deGrom this year.

Nice “sweep”... onto the mighty Rangers next.

(The Sox didn’t have the best luck at the “old” Ballpark in Arlington, maybe they reverse the trend at the new park?)

Man, fuck Globe Life Park. Maybe they’re just not used to playing to a “full” crowd nowadays?

Or maybe this is the beginning of the regression... day off, then home vs the mighty Tigers. They suck too, right?

Yeah. This needs to be a three-game sweep. I think it’s a failure, otherwise.

Should’ve won that one last night, but that’s baseball for you. The Tigers scoring that many runs today doesn’t speak well for the pitching. Still, 2 of 3 is decent. Onto Baltimore for the weekend.

Oh, and Sale is pitching off a mound again. Good sign.

Rafael Devers drove in three runs -- on a home run in the second inning and a bases-loaded two-run double in the sixth inning -- helping the Red Sox secure their 15th come-from-behind win this season, 4-3 over the Orioles. It was Boston’s fifth win in six games and third straight in the four-game series in Baltimore.

Team is playing great and so much fun to watch.

Tough to lose one vs the O's (even after winning the previous 3), then a close one to the A's last night.  Pitching matchup looks favorable tonight (E-Rod on the bump), but we'll see.  Damn A's are sneaky good this year.

Hope y’all are watching. Sox absolutely hammering the ball thus far. Just six outs in, and they’ve already chased off Manaea.

Matt Barnes is good.

Nice come from behind win tonight. Above .500 at home! Let’s keep it going tomorrow.

Great to see Dalbec break out of a bad slump and deliver some serious boost the past couple of games. If 7-9 in the order continue to improve, the Sox are truly going to be a force this season. 40 games in, and this looks to be the case.

Xander Bogaerts is good at baseball. Like, really good.

His 6/$120 contract looks like a steal at this point. (And of course I’m already fearing his player opt-out option after ‘22.)

If we keep Cora until then I think he stays. Seems like they have a solid friendship beyond the diamond.

Spoke too soon, apparently. Shitty way to “blow” a save (bloop single, Pesky pole HR), but that’s how it goes sometimes.

Eh, at least they get a day off tomorrow before heading to Bizarro Toronto.

Helluva comeback in the 9th tonight, to steal the rubber game. This team is... fun.

Good game so far... Would like to see Harper up with 2 outs in the 9th.

Close call, but we'll take it!

Definitely had to pour a whiskey to calm the nerves in the 9th... but I’ll take it.

GettyImages-1172608900.jpgA Fenway full house. Let that sink in for a second.

It’s been a long time since we’ve heard what the collective roar of 38,000 spectators feels and sounds like at the old ballyard in Boston’s Back Bay. But that day is finally within reach.

Saturday is the day when Fenway will be opened to full capacity for the first time since Sept. 29, 2019. First pitch of the game against the Marlins is set for 4:10 p.m. ET.

“It’s going to be an emotional day and an emotional night,” said Red Sox president/CEO Sam Kennedy. “Everyone has been through so much. I think for our organization, we’ve had so many individuals impacted and mainly I think about our ushers and ticket-takers and food and beverage workers. Baseball has a rhythm to it and we’ve all been totally out of rhythm for 16 months. It will be just great to have everyone back and from the organization’s perspective, it’s really a special moment. And for the players, it’s probably immeasurable.”
