April 6, 20214 yr Beard didn't take a pay cut to go to Texas. He's getting paid more. The perceived pay cut is because he got a one time bonus of $750k this last year. That's a one time bonus, not a yearly bonus.

Texas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke or the NBA. I do not think KU was an option for him, only UT within the big 12. I was a little upset at first, naturally, but I always expected Texas being his alma matter could hire him and can't fault him for going to his school. Congrats, you got a great coach. What Beard is really good at is building culture and recruiting. He is excellent in both of those areas, what will be interesting to see is how he does without Adams running the defense. I do think he will still be successful, even if it's only because he should have outstanding talent in Austin, but I think he is a decent X and Os coach as well.

If Adams can't bring in some dudes, all the coaching in the world won't make a difference. We are bringing back Brian Burg (excellent recruiter) and are putting together a nice staff. There are also reports that Jason Sasser (former player and current head coach at Red Oak HS) will be joining the staff as a recruiting specialist. I think Tech will be fine. Will we recruit like UT? No. UT should have top 10 classes every year moving forward with Beard and the staff he has assembled. Can we recruit enough to keep the program at it's current level? Absolutely. The big 12 moving forward is going to continue to be the best conference in the country. KU, Baylor, Texas, Tech, WVU, OU and OK ST should all continue to be great programs that expect to make the tournament on a yearly basis.
