The only thing more predictable than the GOP running up huge deficits on tax cuts and military spending, is each one suddenly becoming horrified by deficit spending 5 mins after a Democrat is sworn in

he's being candid but coming across really incompetent.  everyone predicted supply side issues except the guy in charge?

In the past two quarters, U.S. corporations outside of the finance industry posted their fattest margins since 1950 -- one reason why stock markets keep hitting all-time highs.

On earnings calls, plenty of executives complained about the squeeze from rising costs of labor as well as materials. But overall, profits were up 37% from a year earlier, according to data out last week from the Commerce Department.

Because of lag. They are able to raise prices on current inventory based on future prices. People that write for Yahoo Finance have ZERO fucking clue on how businesses run.

FIFO, bitches!

It's a Bloomberg article posted on Yahoo.

Not a surprise.  It's easier to hedge cost than it is to raise your selling prices.  This is especially true for businesses that buy commodities and make them into something or another commodity.

You knew the print was going to be bad when comments like "tomorrow's print doesn't capture the recent decline in energy prices" started leaking out from the White house.

El-Erian has been all over Powell and the Fed this weekend.  Called the “transitory” call the worst in Fed history.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-12-12/el-erian-says-transitory-inflation-call-likely-fed-s-worst-ever

El-Erian on CNBC this morning said the Fed is behind and unable to catch up with the reality.

that seems very bad.

Economists: Hey Fed, If you print less money, it might curb inflation, but it will probably screw up the Stock Market.

Fed:  Sorry, can't hear you over the BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT

That asshole got a raise?  Or salaries have been frozen for 2 years due to Covid. I’m hoping it doesn’t extend to a third.

Oh, blow me.  Have you seen me say inflation is not real in the last 6 months or so?

Milk is STILL $3.38 per gallon at HEB, you twit.  Inflation 2021 is real, but you go out of your way to prove (a) your obsession with me and (b) your lack of critical thinking skills.

It’s amazing how many rich people care about the poor when it comes to inflation and the price of milk

inflation is going on throughout the first world at pretty much the same rate as here.  so it's definitely the fed.

germany, canada, uk, south korea, norway, spain, italy, all in the same boat as we are.  pretty common theme is higher energy prices, which we all know are a globally traded commodity with prices set by a cartel foreign governments.  the US is (probably) more sensitive to increased oil prices in particular because we use so much of it.

Inflation in construction is where it’s really showing up right now.  I am seeing 50 percent higher than fall 2020 on many items. It’s insane.

Fuck you, I care about inflation because I'm poor.

it's all just 5 year inflation charts from tradingeconomics.com.  keep in mind that they're not going to be directly comparable because baskets will be different from place to place (as they should be).

We're a net exporter.  High oil prices might do more good than harm for our overall economy.  If you work in the oil field or sell F Tree Fiddy's, you're happy right now.  They rest of us? Not so much.

our inflation market basket has gas prices as a big chunk of it.  so our inflation metric is going to show more inflation than, say, germany's, where people use less gas.  33% of observed inflation YoY is due to gas prices going up 58%.  that's 2 points just from one thing.

used cars are another point by themselves.

My company just went over our strategic annual review and the numbers they used were Yo2Y because 2020 was obviously an outlier.  Why aren't we looking at inflation the same way?

Your company is using the cost of goods from 2020 as a basis? Good luck with that...
