April 5, 20214 yr Get off my lawn, I suppose, but roundup used to work great, not so much any more. What do y'all use.
April 5, 20214 yr What type of grass do you have that you want to keep and what are you trying to keep from being invasive? And what are the predominant weed types coming up in the yard? It really does make a difference in product recommendations. Full disclosure-I oscillate between conservationist and preservationist. I know manmade chemicals are part of my daily life, but they have no place in my yard. Roundup and that whole company can get fucked. I have markedly better success with corn-gluten meal being spread by my hands, generously throughout my yard twice a year. Particularly troublesome areas, you can use a concentrated vinegar solution to douse the shit out of them. It's not too late in the season to aerate and fertilize which will allow your grasses to overtake the weeds in the coming weeks. But again, depends on the species types you got going on in your yard. The idea is not to chase the weeds with one chemical application after another, it's to get your grass ready in March to choke out the weeds for you and leave a corn-gluten base in the soil throughout the year to prevent new seedings of weeds. Then the grass can set its sights on Monsanto and go murder their executives while you sleep. Edited April 5, 20214 yr by Lobo

April 5, 20214 yr Author I've got 2 acres. Most of it is not irrigated, except where I maintain nice grass, shrubs, trees, etc. When we get rain, weeds grow. I mow them, but I like to kill them along fences and other places so I don't have to weed-whack and can take care of it with just the mower. I also hate the weeds that pop up in cracks in the driveway, etc. I don't know what species of weeds these are.

It's the rest of the property that gives me a PITA
April 6, 20214 yr You're not supposed to say "dwarf" anymore, it's "Little Grass Fescue." for your more natural areas...I'd still suggest corn gluten meal. But in your case, I'd go liquid form and mix in a liberal ratio (I was picturing you peppering this around the grass/sod areas). Make sure you get the good stuff, the pre-emergent herbicide formula...not the half-assed shit for people living on 1/10th of an acre with builder's sod. It's getting late in the season (you need to use it ideally in late Feb-late March). But if you aerate very soon, you can still get this stuff down and stave off infestation before shit gets real. And as I, and others, stated above...the real troublesome areas...douse in vinegar solution (all kinds of mixture suggestions out there, go with what sounds good to you...cheat code: mix in some garlic solution in there while you're spraying it around to control mosquito populations as well).

Thanks for that. And FYI, here in SoCal, we don't really have mosquitoes (or other pesky bugs for the most part). They aren't an issue. That's another thing I love about being here, because I've been places where they are thick, and I hate those places..
April 6, 20214 yr I know SoCal doesn't have much of a mosquito issue. I didn't know you lived in Southern California. I guess some of my suggestions are not applicable then. It sounds nice there though.

April 6, 20214 yr Has there been a change to Round-Up? I use the big bottle of concentrate from Home Depot and haven’t noticed any change yet. Latest bottle to probably 2019 vintage. Edited April 6, 20214 yr by Incredulity

April 6, 20214 yr diesel or hit the local farm and feed store, they'll have stuff that actually works
April 6, 20214 yr Yeah. Roundup fucking sucks these days. I double up the concentrate and it’s still only moderately effective on anything other than dandelions
April 6, 20214 yr Back in the 70s, the US government made quite a splash with a product called "Paraquat". They sprayed all over Central and South America, specifically to kill "grass" and "weed".

To kill grass, though, I've had more problems. I'm having a war on all these grasses that have grown up through the rocks on a retaining wall. So far, I am losing. But, I'll keep trying until something works. In most of the places, I don't have to worry about trees so I can do whatever is necessary.
April 6, 20214 yr Unless it’s a weed that chokes out the lawn, I don’t care anymore. I understand nuking weeds growing through cracks in a sidewalk or driveway. Cant let that fester or it gets worse.
April 6, 20214 yr I don't like the idea of dumping she's on my yard. I'm giving this a shot this week. I'll let you know.

April 6, 20214 yr My lol was because of some blowhard CEO who insisted we go there because it was the greatest place ever. I don’t think I got the sharts after, but my opinion of his opinions was definitely dented.

April 7, 20214 yr I bought a big jug of something at Tractor Supply a couple years ago. Guy asked me what I wanted to kill and I told him everything. He suggested this stuff and it does not disappoint. I'll have to check the name when I get home. Here's the stuff. Edited April 7, 20214 yr by RPM

April 7, 20214 yr dandelion leaf is a great addition to a salad. highly recommend a short and quick blanch of it though to remove the excess bitterness. full of health shit too. ps - i still fucking hate dandelions and english ivy. fuckers are resilient and spread like rabbits.
April 7, 20214 yr we have a little bermuda mixed with a LOT of clover and crabgrass. any natural / non-chemical solutions? i have resisted using weed and feed but feel like that may be required at this point.
August 6Aug 6 Bump from the past. I have a quarter mile gravel lane from the road to my house that I have been maintaining with roundup for many years. I went to my local farm store to get another quart of concentrate and found that they don't carry Roundup in amounts less than 5 gallons. They do carry several products with the active ingredient being Gluphosinate-ammonium. This shit is a sudden killer of goose grass and Mexican sandburrs that try to push in from the edges of my drive and any of the weeds that inhabit the center stripe. According to the net it is safer than roundup and doesn't cause cancer in lab rats. I don't know if I believe that but within 36 hours of application there is visible damage being done the any plant that gets sprayed. This won't help any of you that are trying non-chemical solutions, I don't use it on my lawn or anywhere near my rose bushes and flower beds. The brand I used is Kleen-Up. https://bonide.com/product/kleenup-he-high-efficiency-weed-grass-killer-conc/

August 7Aug 7 RM43 will do the trick. You need to be very careful in your flower beds. Most use this stuff for fence lines but it’ll work for bed cleanup.

Culcitate or some shit.

Culcitate or some shit.Yea not a fan of any roundup products the way they went about business and I agree, they suck way more post lawsuits than before. It was the shit back in the day. Spray it on grass: dead. Spray it on shrubs: dead. Spray it on humans: dead.
August 9Aug 9 My local farm store sells ranger pro. Its just glyo but in a much better percentage than roundup these days. It kills everything i need kilt. For selective I've been using foundation this year from Wilbur ellis. Like it. And my sales rep is dirty hot so I've got that going for me.

August 11Aug 11 Had an invasive weed in the middle of some st. augustine. Roundup killed the grass + weeds. Weeds sprouted back up but the grass didn't.

Doubt the same weeds sprouted back up. But there were probably seeds in the profile that sprouted and grew especially with no st ausustine to compete with. Roundup (or any glyo) is inert once dry and only affects actively growing plants. Wont do anything to soil. Won't do anything to seeds that haven't germinated yet.
August 12Aug 12 For those of you who don't need an industrial sized jug of Roundup Nuclear Option from Tractor Supply. Home Depot (and I'm assuming Lowe's as well) sell a version of Roundup with a gold/yellow cap. Marketed for ivy, it's far more lethal than the regular Roundup sold by those two chains.
