July 8, 20187 yr 10 hours ago, Vic Mackey said: I don't think Love fits well with Lebron. He was turned into a spot up shooter and that isn't who he was in Minnesota. He was delegated to a useless player in Cleveland. Not a bad player but he made minimal impact. When he was missing, they actually seemed to play better. And you didn't even notice he was missing. You say that, but you have remember GM Lebron made trading for Love a part of his re-signing with Cleveland deal. He knew who Love was, and was running the team on the floor and from the bench. There's no question that is exactly what Lebron wants next to him, because he wants to be the focus of the offense. He wants spot up shooters with no ball skills to be around him so he can dictate everything. I don't think Love was that kind of player in Minny, but he was kind of forced to become that as time in Cleveland went on. Now with Magic presumably running the show, we will see that offense change, as there's no way they have Ball and Rondo out there spotting up around Lebron. I assume Luke Walton, being a disciple of Kerr, will not run that kind of offense, and will have real practices working on plays and set pieces. A real working offense coming from a coach could be exactly what Lebron needs. Let him worry about following orders rather than trying to be the field general, and simply flow with the coach's philosophy. That would be a great way for him to finish out his career, or it could result in another Blatt-like situation. We shall see.

July 9, 20187 yr I guess the hope was that a max player would take a 10-15 million a year discount like KD did for GS. CP3 wouldn't do that, so we're fucked on getting to the Finals without that extra capspace GS has to work with. WCF might be jeopardy with the lack of capable SFs on the Rockets, now that Lebron is in the conference and KD is kind of important to guard. If Morey still has a rabbit to pull out of his ass, he better do it soon, cause this offseason has been a step back, and we still haven't dealt with Capela's RFA.
July 9, 20187 yr trading anderson and a couple of first round picks to atlanta for bazemore is pretty much the only move i see left outside of signing melo and bargain shopping for guys like ellington/hood/etc.
July 9, 20187 yr Can't believe more teams weren't trying to land Randle. July 10, 20187 yr it makes a little bit of sense in that they have the cap room and more likely than not, won't have their pick next year (and they have even more cap space next year). i would have been more excited about lavine if i were them because they need someone who can score, but i can at least see their POV where they need to get someone this summer.

It's absolutely extra space to work with on their end, cause no other max player is willing to do that. KD is saving his team a fucking boatload of money in luxury taxes, which is how they have so many stars. Even GS wouldnt spend 100m in taxes to keep that team together, but he's subverting the system by willing to make tens of millions less over these 3 years with them. It's really unprecedented to see it at this level. Even lebron, Bosh and Wade only took 3m less a piece to fit under the cap their first year, but had full 7.5% escalations each year after. KD has taken a bigger paycut each year than those 3 combined.

KD has taken a bigger paycut each year than those 3 combined. He took about 5 million less this year, iirc. He took about 9.5 million less last year. Next year, if he wants to stay, he'll have Bird rights, but you're correct, at this point, it's about luxury tax savings. They pay about 3x every dollar spent right now in tax. Boogie's deal, which at the taxpayer MLE of 5.3, actually ends up being more than 20 million overall (salary + tax). Now Boogie's deal was an salary cap exception, so regardless of what KD did, the Warriors could have signed Boogie, it's all about how much tax they want to pay. Frankly, when it comes to guys like Lacob and Guber, who cares. I wouldn't care how much tax those dudes have to pay because they're going to make so much appreciation when they sell, it's more than offset. They do pay a lot now and if they want to keep the band together, they'll have to pay unprecedented amounts in the future.

July 11, 20187 yr Are the rockets seriously going to bail the thunder out???? It cannot be understated how much melo doesn't care to be a part of a team. I understand that the rockets will get him cheap and can waive him if he isn't playing nice. However, the players love melo and have always defended him. Not a chance in hell the rockets waive melo. They don't want to piss of CP3. Even if melo is going to ruin the season melo is going to be on that roster. Taking melo, regardless of hope that he can change, should be a fire-able offense for any GM. Even pop.

Melo has a 1 year 28m deal, and any move to get him would include Ryan Anderson's 2 years/41m deal. We are in the tax, so numbers need to be very close. Not sure who would go with Anderson to make it work, but we'll see. May be a third team involved, so if OKC can find someone to take on Anderson's deal, they can save 90m in luxury tax over the next few years. That's clearly worth a few picks to them, so we might be able to make it happen.
