Elliott needs to let Logan gain experience in the back row by letting her play there instead of Rounsaville.

And Jhenna needs to play in Hahn’s spot.

Neither of those DS’s are putting up decent dig numbers or passing consistently enough to be in the starting lineup IMO.

I really want to like Shook but she is the weakest setter on a top 10 team.  Her out-of-system setting needs lots of work. Unfortunately, we have no other options at that position...unless Elliott decides to pick up a transfer setter in the off-season.

Try out Jhenna at S. Other womp, Naomi Cabello still 2 years away

My thoughts so far.  1) I hate to say it because I loved Cat but I think we upgraded at libero. Petersen won't make the wow plays that Cat made but she looks to be much more consistent in serve r

  • Screw her. I predict team chemistry is 1000x better this year.

Also pointed out on the VT thread is we often start four freshmen and are the youngest "elite" team.  I think we all know that intellectually, but I certainly tend to lose sight of it.  We probably have the most capacity for development over the season.  I honestly don't think I saw a whole lot of development last year, but we weren't as young.  Shook probably improved some, I think Sun got worn out and deteriorated.

Saw the High Point match and it was a really rough match for Shook. White and Rounsville struggled with passing in the first set but stabilized in the next two (though Hahn and Petersen did OK). My feeling is that in the past the so-so passes would turn into so-so setting or the passes would be better'd by the setter (Collins, Allison, Kocher). Unfortunately, Shook makes some of the average passes worse. Shook also bump sets many balls even when they're passed within three steps of her starting position.

Good thing I saw was that Shook was aggressive in getting Butler involved. Block also sent many balls back, explaining why High Point had more digs and attacks.

Dropping to #6 seems harsh.

Hey not a bad backset by Jhenna

maybe some playing time at setter against Texas state?

TXST looks pretty bad, but their #12 is cute. And they're pretty small too.....one of their DS's is under 5ft. Bedart Ghani is getting good minutes for Texas tonight

Their website shows their jerseys #s are in chronological order 1-19. That seems odd.

Having skimmed the VT thread, as noted above, the UW people thought that was far and away their best game this year, and apparently the hitters that looked almost infallible have been extremely fallible at other times.

Good lord, 16 service errors against TStU?  We had 18 I think against Wisky.  That's disgusting.

These girls are not mentally strong...making stupid mistakes when they have the lead.

And of course Autumn shanks the pass giving Kentucky set point.

Kentucky takes set 1.  Not what I was looking for tonight.

I don't think we're as mentally weak as we have been in past years, probably just youth.

Shook getting too predictable and going to Luketic who gets dug up twice in a row....

Tx drops the 1st set 27-25.

Youth definitely in the front row with Logan, Brionne, and Luketic.

But back row of Autumn and Hahn is still weak....they can't read hitters and are still too inconsistent with serve-receive.

No doubt.

Seriously, our serving sucks....Micaya and Morgan can't serve worth shit.

Damn, Kentucky's setter sets some really nice tempo balls with good passing....I often wonder if Shook could do the same with better passing.

Did you see the Wisconsin game?  They were money.

Don't know why Claire is serving the Kentucky libero....she's passing nails.

Haha, Logan putting up better stats against better competition through 5 games than Sun did last year.

This is the best I've seen of Micaya. Confident, aggressive but under control.

Minus her serving

A few years ago I finally accepted that Serving & Passing will be a weakness as long as JE is our coach.

Wow, uk got lucky.

It's kind of staggering that it's so obvious, yet nothing ever changes.

Oregon best #1 Minny. Good for RPI

Start to lose momentum, get it back  . . .

Service

fucking

Error.

We really need to work on establishing the middles

Petersen just stepped in front of all the passers to take the ball and pass it perfectly....

Beautiful stuffed block by Micaya.

And Luketic and Logan are heating up!

That was a good set for Texas. 25-18. Cut down on our service errors and it could have been more of a blowout

Shook has kind of changed back to the stone-faced girl.  At the VERT she was smiling and laughing.

Texas playing kinda flat to start the 4th set...they need to pick it up.

Clair with the dig kill to win it 25-16.  Glad we cranked it up prior to the big test Tuesday.

Shook is just serious.  I think she's working pretty hard to work in the middles.

Am I correct to assume that we can't watch the Stanford game tonight over the internet unless we have the Pac 12 Network?

Certainly appears that way.  Que chingon.

Apparently, signing up for a free trial of slingbox orange package or fubotv will get us the PAC12 Network.  And there is reference to P12NW streams available at gametime.

If Autumn and Claire can hold up in serve-receive, we may have a chance...they have served us off the court the past 2 years.

And we've really struggled hitting against those 6'6-6'7 Trees...
