It does suck. I disabled all of these, and it went back to the old behavior :

Mine flipped back to grouping again this week, so I hadta go back in and fix it.  For whatever reason, they really want us using grouped tabs.

I hated it for a few days. Now I'm used to it and don't mind it.  I still prefer the previous style.

I fucking hate it. It always does it on this board when I link to something else. Not sure I notice it anywhere else. 

I only noticed it here because I was launching a lot of 3D cartoon horse races.
