Grant is a good friend of mine and a fantastic person.  So proud he posted about his addiction and recovery.

Tried Brisket & Rice for lunch today. Good stuff and not too far from me.

I actually figured Patricio Swayze was probably there, but I forgot the Surly call sign. Muledick? Is that what we're supposed to yell?

No, you are supposed to stand up on a table and present your paystub to the entire restaurant (assuming you didn’t drive a 2003 corvette to said establishment.

Ate some bbq that was provided for me today. It was so mediocre (brisket) and plain bad (sausage) that I found it hard to not complain about free food. I would have rather paid myself for something more appetizing.

I asked where did this crappy bbq come from? You guessed it: Goode Co.

Years ago, they were the only place in town with smoked duck. Side of jambalaya. Terrific meal.

After they dropped duck, I stopped going. The cantina, and especially the taqueria still slam.

Best ribs in Houston? I’m partial to a mildly spicy brown sugar rub with an apple juice glaze.

Pinkerton’s

I figured this would be the suggestion, thanks. Does Grant call them candy paint ribs?

With or without glaze

I must have gotten a bad cut of brisket at Pinkertons a few weeks back because it was pretty meh. The ribs were on point though. They were amazing.

Did you ask for a replacement?  There is no crime in politely asking for your $30+ / lbs order to be replaced if it is not up to standards. A joint like that takes it in stride and doesn’t want bad product to go on paper.  Heck, Luby’s will replace a bad serving without hesitation.

That didn't even occur to me at the time because I was in a food coma from the ribs and sausage.

Being brain dead has its perks.

Pinkerton’s was terrific. Pound of glazed pork ribs, duck and sausage jambalaya, and a link of boudin. I ate most of it before I took the picture.

Thanks again putt. That hit the spot. Pinkerton’s rub was pretty similar to some ribs I enjoyed at the Montgomery County Cookoff a few weeks back.

Their jambalaya is probably the closest thing we’re going to get to the old Goode Co duck jambalaya. I have no idea why they dropped smoked duck off their menu. It was the only reason to eat there.

I’m coming around on spare ribs especially when they’re prepared like that. I still like baby backs better, but nobody in Texas does them right. I guess I’ll have to go to Memphis for proper baby backs.

The jalapeno cheese rice at Pinkertons is an A1 side - for me it’s up there with Truth’s tater tot casserole and dare I say the JM cheesy squash (ok probably not THAT good but still…)  I know there are some major Truth fanbois out there but I think I still prefer Pinkertons by a smidge.

Does Pinkerton ever have lunch specials? It’s a haul from my office, but doable as long I’m on the road by 11.

When I went yesterday I saw that they had a little sign up for chicken thighs but I’m not sure if that’s a newer regular menu item or just something they had posted up. If I’m going out for bbq it’s usually on the weekend so I may not be the best person to answer that question. Their Instagram may have some info if they do though.

The Pit Room’s breakfast tacos slam and go hard. Jalapeño sausage/egg with green sauce was great. The brisket and egg wasn’t as good, but still terrific. 7am-1030am every day at both locations.

Posted in the general bbq thread, but should've posted here.

Made it out to Corkscrew in Spring.  Got there around 1:00ish maybe a little before and the line took about an hour to get through.  Not a fan of their ordering process.  Wait in line for an hour, get to the front and place your order, then get a ticket...so you go sit for longer while your order is prepared.  We probably waited another 20 min after ordering.

I'm a lightweight these days and always get a sliced brisket sandwich.  Sandwich was great with a mix of lean/moist.

Wife got a "Bob-Bert" sandwich (1/3 meat, pico and green chile ranch) she got chopped brisket, which I tried to advise against, but it was fucking delicious.

Potato salad was fantastic, super creamy with a tang.

Mac and cheese was solid, but pretty standard.

Apple Cobbler we took home and had later that night.

Really solid place if you're in the area and have a couple hours to spare.  Old Town Spring seems like a neat little place and is just what it sounds like.

Went to Corkscrew a couple months back for lunch and you have to get there before 1130 for any semblance of a reasonable wait. But the food was legit.

just ate there yesterday.  Their special that comes with two meats, a big slice of cheddar, pickle, onion, and two slices of white bread is a great deal - $16 for Q.  Yesterday the rib was fantastic, and the fatty brisket was very good, the lean was a little bit too dry for my tastes.  Need to have the turkey at some point.

all in all, not a bad spot for Q that you don't have to camp out in line for or draw down on your home equity line of credit.

It’s on my list to give it a try. I just so rare that I make it outside of the loop to eat. I’ve been hoping that someone here would post a review that would give me the motivation to leave the warm embrace of the loop.

It’s Westheimer and Fountain View not Sealy. Jesus.

Ah, yes, the endless strip malls of Westheimer from 610 to infinity. The pinnacle of culture. Plus, I prefer not to associate with aggy. The loop is their kryptonite.

While I like the guy, Mike is more of a maitre d than a bartender. If you plan to drink 2 beers, order 2 beers immediately because he might not be behind the bar for the next hour.

I’m smuggling in some Tabasco, salt and pepper on my next visit. Kind of insane Grant had it removed from the dining room.

Ate at Killen’s off Washington/Heights this week for the first time ages.

jalapeño cheese sausage, burnt ends and creamed corn were my favorites. Mac and cheese was solid as was turkey and brisket.
