the sideline reporter is talking about marquette’s “mental weight training”, aka the breathing exercises that they do before and after every game, as well as during media timeouts. i didn’t realize they still did this shit lol.

Shaka appears to be willing to let one of the worst high-major bigs I’ve ever seen drag Marquette to mediocrity. I do not understand it.

golden eagle (-5.5) down 39-34 at the half vs dayton.

Yeah, Ive had this game on sort of halfway paying attention. This MU team doesnt have any shooters, so they are gonna struggle in the chuck-a-three offense Shaka favors. gonna switch over to the bama/ill game, which should be an order of magnitude more entertaining.

lmao, marquette got the ball last, called TO, drew up a play with 14 seconds left, and then never got a shot off. overtime.

perfect opportunity to practice more mental weight training

dayton keeps running the right plays/actions to score only to screw it up.

sick block by the dayton guard.

airball three from marquette lol.

#mubb Smart: "We believe in a growth mindset, which says 'I can and will grow from any experience.' 99% of people out there believe in a fixed mindset, which says the last experience defines who I am, it's not going to change

y’all hear that? 99% of you fat losers believe that the last thing that happened to you defines you. but not shaka and his boys. they’re already mindfully meditating their future into existence. they are the 1%.

Ben Gold passed this ball

Same here. We were told Caedin was a 15-20 minute guy last year. He was unplayable. Now we were told he had a “transformation” and he’s barely playable. Team as a whole: can’t shoot, can’t finish, can’t defend, cant hold onto the ball. So many holes. What’d we do in the offseason

here we go. this is the shaka we all know and megaloathe.

"that's really not really what's winning or losing anyone games. It's about 'How connected are you as a team?' Again, I have to help our guys play with more approach goals and more flow together. We certainly have a group of guys that can win a game like tonight."

“practice resulting”; “approach goals”; “connectivity and flow.” there’s never been a more pompous or aggravating coach at Texas. he somehow carries this air of “i’m smarter than everyone else and that’s why you don’t understand what i’m doing” when in reality he’s got zero substance and is all about cool buzz words and empty catchphrases. absolute fraud.

#1968
#mubb is also ranked 294th in efficiency for shots at the rim, per Synergy, the 4th worst high major. Not a great combo. https://t.co/WPY04wTs62

The Duke game went 9 pages. Early season college basketball when teams are playing dogshit programs is one of the least interesting things in sports.

He is the basketball head coach version of a Bain consultant.  nothing of substance will get done but it will sound cool and you get paid a shitload of money even when you fail.

Yup. That MBA psychobabble vacuousness wears thin when results aren’t there. Even for people who want to believe

Did any Texas fan go to the Marquette board 4 years ago and warn them what was coming.  because that's what fans are supposed to do.  Maybe they didn't have a board.  I am just looking for a "Texas fans told us what was coming" post because I am a bad person.

#1976

"practice resulting" lmfao. I want to adopt that into everyday usage as well. Shaka needs his own reality show. It would make an amazing workplace comedy. Ricky Gervais and Mike Schur are jealous they didn't think of "practice resulting" first.

#1978

😂😂😂

Shaka cancelled practice today. Instead they went go karting as a team. I guess they need to focus on being better connected instead of putting the ball in the basket. #mubb

It is still football season, and we are playing scrub teams. I imagine the thread on Monday for the ASU game will have 16 posts.

All of that is fair, but it also seems like a lot of our fans are more interested in rooting against our former coach than learning about and watching our current team.  This team has a shot to make some noise IMO and yet there is almost zero excitement around the new coach and team.

Lol even funnier when you realize Shaka was 3 coaches ago.  Not like its last year's coach and the wounds are still fresh.

I think every Texas fan is eager to see how Miller and the new regime settle in. They seem to be on the right track already. But to me, our ongoing fan "interest" in Shaka is because of just how massive a fraud he continues to be.

The guy failed at least as spectacularly as Terry but then was given a free pass by media still trying to paint him as a great coach who got a raw deal from us ignorant ingrates at Texas. If the media would instead start portraying the guy as the overrated charlatan he actually is, I'd feel far less inclined to keep celebrating his stumbles.

After more than a decade of mediocre basketball, I’d rather just watch a train wreck.

Anf that’s exactly what we watched on the court with Shaka and Terry and off the court with Beard. Train wreck describes it all perfectly.

What is there to learn about? They haven't played anybody since Duke.

Marquette has played 3 real games already (and lost all of them). That's why this thread has more traction.

You are on such a bizarre crusade with this shit. When the Texas/Arkansas game thread only has 27 posts then I'll admit that you had a point.

Do you think we're all like - watching these Marquette games? I've watched one college game start to finish this season and Texas played in it.

I don't care if Texas is good or bad Shaka can always go fuck himself.

One last stat and I'll try to do actual work. Per Synergy, #mubb is being zoned 36% of possessions, which is the 4th most in the country and is only scoring .886 PPP against it, only better than BC and Rutgers for high majors seeing 10+ zone possessions a game.

a shaka smart team has trouble against the zone? whaaa????

shaka gave six of his players “awards” for their play against central michigan. 😂😂😂

Congrats @chase4xx, @jcl8rk, @LoweryZaide, @CaedinHamilton , @DamariusOwens1 & @m_phillips_07 - the award winners in our victory over Central Michigan!#MUBB #RGV

I had some interactions with Marquette fans. To a person they tried to tell me I'm a bad person and UT is a bad employer for forcing him out, and he's going to do great things at Marquette. Caught a lot of flack when they won the Big East tournament and made it into the second round in his first year. Caught more flack when Beard was arrested. I haven't gone back to revisit any of those conversations, but if I had kept better tabs on them I would. Basically I guaranteed they'd fire him within 5 years. So next year. He's right on schedule as far as I'm concerned.

i’ve stayed interacting with them for years, and it wasn’t until the back to back losses to maryland and dayton a couple of weeks ago than any of them started questioning shaka. you try and help them out, like, “hey listen, here’s a bunch of statistical and empirical evidence showing shaka smart to be a fraud” and they get mad at you for it. they say all the stuff about Texas having unrealistic expectations and forcing shaka to recruit in a way that he didn’t want to (is that why he never won the league at vcu during his six years while his counterparts at vcu won the league 4/6 times they had the chance?) me they respond with chris beard’s mugshot. then you show them proof that the early tourney exits aren’t flukes, but certainties, and they just scream about how bad wojo was insist that shaka is one of the best in the country and a perfect fit at marquette. fuck em. sounds like they might be right.

#1998

Know a lot of Marquette folks. Serious basketball fans. They wanna believe but pretty frustrated about Shakas unwillingness to even acknowledge the new era of building a roster through the portal. And his recruiting is trash. All their best players of late were recruited before he got there.

Big East will be pretty stout so they have some blowouts coming. They’re gonna get tired of all his zen bullshit when UConn plunger rapes them by 30 a couple of times this year.
