August 4, 20241 yr The induction ceremony was a pretty tough watch. Mongo is in really bad shape. I hope he’s not in pain and at peace. Edited August 4, 20241 yr by billfromlaketravis
August 4, 20241 yr Complete ceremony at Steve's home with comments from his sister. Difficult to watch all at once. Try to make it to the end at 3:18. Luv you Mongo, you will never be forgotten.

April 23Apr 23 Author The letter Mongo dictated to all of his fans for his Hall of Fame ceremony: Quote "Hey Chicago, Bears fans and Mongo fans, woohoo I'm in the Hall of Fame, baby! I want to thank the Hall of Fame, the senior selection committee, the Chicago Bears and all the fans. The best fans in the world and the best city to play football in. I played 15 years in the NFL and loved every minute of every down. I played with the greatest players in the NFL and the greatest defense to this day, baby. I want to thank all of my teammates. It's an honor to join my teammates Walter Payton, Richard Dent, Mike Singletary, Dan Hampton, Jimbo Covert, coach [Mike] Ditka, coach [Buddy] Ryan, and all the Bears before us. I'd like to say a special thank you to my pseudo son, Jarrett Payton, for introducing me. I want to thank my family, my father Mac, my brother Richard, my sisters Sharon and Kathryn Denise. To my wife, Misty, thank you for giving me my beautiful daughter Macy, and to Macy, you'll always be my little girl. Daddy loves you. And finally, to my mother: We made it momma; your baby made it! Bear down and hook 'em." Fought his ass off to stick around for his well deserved induction into the HOF. Glad he is at peace - prayers to his family and friends. Special prayers to Jarrett Payton who lost his father Walter and now his 'adoptive' dad Mongo.
April 23Apr 23 Rest in peace. So glad he got to see his induction into the hall of fame. What a terrible, merciless disease.
April 23Apr 23 Saw him first with the Bears. Admire him for his fight vs ALS which is a completely different field of play. Rest in power.

April 25Apr 25 RIP Bam Bam IMHO, Steve McMichael was one of the most intense UT players I ever saw live. Texas fans forget that he kept future All American and Lobardi Trophy winner Kenneth Sime RIP on the bench for 2 years. They also forgot that he was the backup place kicker for UT as well. Subbing for Russell Erxeleben back in 1977 against bear and aggy, Steve McMichael scored 14 points that included 2 booming 48 yard FGs.
April 25Apr 25 I wish someone would look into head trauma and als. there was a saints player and lou gherig himself probably when baseball helmets were not as versatile. it hits close to home as my mom passed away from it about 20 years ago. she had also said that as a child she had fallen on her head climbing a tree or something. yes correlation is not causation, but its a bitch of disease and my mom was a shell of her former self. a living prison specially when unable to speak
