if you keep the would be state pairs together and in separate pods, it gets a little tougher on perceived equity and regionalist, if the latter matters at all.

If you wanted to make it a little more equally distributed, you could do something like this, which is mostly geographical except for LSU.

West: Texas, OU, A&M, Arkansas

East: Florida, UGA, South Carolina, Vandy

North: LSU, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mizzou

South: Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Miss State

Thanks. I have been on the boards since 1997 when I was a student at Texas. We've spent decades as fans and board patrons feeling powerless to create any real change. The Internet, social media,

I kinda like the big 12.  It’s sneaky good and largely free of the truly imbecilic rednecks like the ones that call in to Pawl.  You do have the trailer trash up north but they are a minor nuisance.  We have been a top 1 or 2 conference in basketball and really good in secondary sports that nobody cares about.  Football has been good enough to make a playoff for the winner.  Regional affiliation does mean something.  Do we really want to be tied at the hip to so many fucking crazy goobers?

I like our conference mates, Baylor aside, and the Great Plains is an undervalued region. But no one actually lives on them and this does seem to be how we'll stay competitive longterm, at least football-wise.

Most equitable one I’ve seen that keeps all the in-state schools together:

Texas, OU, A&M, Arkansas
Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky
LSU, Ole Miss, Miss State, Mizzou
Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Vanderbilt

If there is any competitive advantage to being in a particular conference, then we should be in that conference. I'm sure SEC greats Vince Young and Derrick Johnson would agree.

You're breaking up too many rivalries

At this point, who gives a damn. That game in October is rendered somewhat meaningless given we might play again in crappy JerryWorld to decide who moves on. And whether people admit it or not, Baylor, Tech and TCU are our rivals. Lots of games played. Memorable moments. We live amongst each other.

Here’s an idea. Since we’re going for the 16 team SEC, let’s just have two 16 team conferences each with 4- 4 team pods. Then we can have an NFL style playoff. 12 teams. Pod winners get the bye/1st round home games. Only the championship game is at a neutral site.

Our model should be Ohio State. Solid conference with limited true threats. They still recruit with the Clemson and Bamas of the world. We have to battle OU so our road is more difficult. There is a lot we should follow from OSU. They win. They recruit. They play in the playoff. They produce NFL guys. They don’t play in the SEC.

Go to the SEC and we lose power/authority. Don’t think for a moment the SEC brethren wouldn’t want to work us over after allowing us into their conference. Who knows maybe our cross pod rival could be Mizzou. It’s possible that it would make recruiting more difficult. Go to Arky and now you’ve 3 guaranteed games close to home.

And I thought for damn sure we had Alabammie on the schedule without being conference mates.

Just do a pods system. We'd be with the four SWC teams, it'd be awesome.

The Southwest Athletic Conference was organized in 1914. Charter members included the University of Texas, Texas A&M University, Baylor University, the University of Arkansas, the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State) University, Southwestern University of Georgetown and Rice University.

Wrong!

SWAC = Southwestern Athletic Conference

I think eventually there will be 4 20 team power conferences.... each conference will have 2 10 team divisions.    Playoffs will be winner of each division for every conference.

This right here is why we should leave the Big 12. What’s the point in elevating programs like TCU, Baylor, or Tech and giving them P5 conference revenue so they can use it to negative recruit the shit out of us and try to poach all of our recruits? Would Guilbeau actually be considering TCU if they were in the AAC?

While I agree in principle, this probably has nothing more to do than us getting our dicks kicked into the dirt on a yearly basis by TCU. Also add in that TCU just had a Thorpe winner and a JG was flakey kid to begin with.

SMU says, yes.

I don't disagree with your premise for the most part because: fuck Baylor most of all but I will say that NIL creates several changes in the landscape and schools like TCU, UCF, and SMU (even Cougar High if they could unfuck themselves) because of their markets and donor base can punch far above their previously limiting weight class. Yes, the NIL should and will be a massive boon for schools like Texas and USC but there are several G5 schools that stand to provide a much bigger and better return with NIL than bottom-feeding P5 schools. SMU players are going to see a lot more money, esp over the long haul, than guys at Oregon State or Washington State for example. They also stand to benefit from the playoff expansion by giving them a legitimate shot at the brass ring, albeit a very small window.

Blue bloods always have and always will be carrying the rest of the conference. You could replace TCU, Baylor, and Tech with Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Missouri and have the same conversation about the SEC. Ditto the B1G, ACC, and the PAC.

At least Miss State, Mizzou and SCar are major state universities. Baylor and TCU especially are just small private nothingburgers nationally.
