Russell Erxleben and Chance Mock are organizing an investment fund for the players.   Still a lot of moving parts, but it’s going to be big when it all comes together.

great. we got a leg up on competition.

Thanks. I have been on the boards since 1997 when I was a student at Texas. We've spent decades as fans and board patrons feeling powerless to create any real change. The Internet, social media,

I work closely with a certain previously committed 5 star QB's father (hint: its Quinn Ewers, for those who haven't been following recruiting closely like I have) and chatted with him a bit this after

They're working with Art Schlichter on a cross-conference concept that could be really big for those getting in on the ground floor.

Art is working behind the scenes to get Barstool Sports book or Draft Kings to sponsor his new hedge fund.

If I paid 9.95 for that, I would no longer do so after reading that last line. Shit, I guess we know why they're covering the high school recruit beat and aren't real sportswriters.

That is the best update ever!!

"The players suck, the quarterbacks suck, the defense is terrible" and he is in.. amazing

I missed from the other thread that Tyler Johnson is yet another highly rated OL bust. Unbelievable. That says a lot about Texas’ OL evaluations. Let’s hope Sark is better.

The coaches apparently have told Maalik  that Card and Casey will be gone next year.

Ha, Keondre Coburn said in an interview with OB that he was surprised to be listed as participating in the senior day activities. It was not something he was aware of until the list came out.

A lot of these dudes are about to get not so subtle hints.

Johnson was a highly rated prospect that most schools in the country would have signed. That’s not a good example of a poor evaluation.

True. "A little light" could mean only one departure.

Considering the defense nicknamed Casey QB2 about halfway through fall camp, I don't think anyone is going to lose any sleep with his departure outside of Chip Brown.

Biggins: Texas commit Maalik Murphy set to play for CIF Championship

  Reveal hidden contents

Gardena (Calif.) Serra quarterback Maalik Murphy has his Cavaliers playing for a CIF Championship this weekend for the first time since 2012.

Serra is a proud program with a great winning tradition but the program hasn’t a had a lot of playoff success in recent years. In fact, their last playoff win was back in 2015 when quarterback Khalil Tate was running the show for the Cavs.

“It’s been a lot of fun,” Murphy told us earlier today at the CIF Championship luncheon. “I had never been in a playoff game until this year and now we’re playing in the finals.

“I was hurt my sophomore year and we didn’t even have playoffs last year so this year has been special. It’s a great opportunity for our team to bring a Championship back to Serra and a great way to end my senior year.”

Murphy has always had all the physical tools you could want is a next level quarterback and is now starting to put it together on the field. He has had a solid senior season, completing 161-243 passes (66%) for 2,341 yards and 17 touchdowns.

He has also rushed for 85 yards and six more scores and has improved his pocket mobility, ability to extend a play and looks more poised under duress. It hasn’t always been smooth or easy but capping off his career with a CIF Title would a great reward for Murphy, who through ups and downs, was always a great leader and a teammate.

On the recruiting front, Murphy committed to Texas back in February and said his pledge to the Horns remains rock solid.

“I’m 100% locked in,” Murphy said. “I know they have struggled recently but that doesn’t impact me at all. I look at the offense and they’re still putting up points. I see the issues and feel they just need to learn how to finish games and I’m excited to come in to the locker room and compete and help any way I can.

“I really think I have a chance to come in and battle for a job, whether that be as a starter or a back up. My mind set is to come and compete hard and do what I can to help change the culture there. I think the talent is there and I believe in the coaching staff. I’ve never wavered at all and I still believe everything is in place to make a run over the next few years.”

Murphy said he’s well aware Texas is recruiting other quarterbacks as well, namely Devin Brown, but isn’t concerned by it in the least.

“The coaches have been very transparent and communicated the need to bring in a second quarterback in this class,” Murphy said. “I was never blind sided or anything, the coaches always kept me in the loop. I understand the need, the quarterback room next year could be a little light.

“It doesn’t bother me at all. You have to go out and compete anywhere you go. I’m still set to sign in December and in January, I’ll be in Austin. It’s crazy how fast the year has gone but I’m excited and can’t wait.”

Seems like this board has cooled on Maalik  but he has continued to improve week to week and all in on Texas.  His attitude and positivity seem in infectious and guys gravitate to him in camps.  Will be glad to have him on campus come January.

Yes it is, he sucks and has sucked since he has been on campus. Just because he was highly ranked and had multiple big school offers doesn't mean it wasn't a poor evaluation.

This is dumb. He could have gone basically anywhere. Talent isn't the issue with him.

IF we have learned anything from the Herman era it is mental evaluation can be almost as important as the physical ones.

He will be an intriguing piece to add to the QB room and seems to be improving his footwork, but I see some people saying he has a chance to start next year and something would have to go really, really wrong for that to happen.

Card would be dumb to leave if/when there's no one else on campus and he's making money. It will be interesting if we portal a real starter though.

Talent isn’t this issue, but he was a poor mental evaluation. Kid doesnt love football, and I think that is one thing Sark says they look for when recruiting.

I wouldn't force Card out by any means. Worst case, solid backup. Best case, he gets more comfortable Year 2 in the system and could actually become a quality starter. (note: I'm by no means saying you plan on that. You definitely go all-out for a transfer. But at least he has upside.)

I read the little light comment as a very polite way to put both will be gone.

You think so? One scholarship QB in Wright plus Murphy (who most seem to believe needs to develop) and maybe the kid from Utah as true freshmen? That’s Sark committing to a total rebuild, does he have the leash to do that?

#41331

If Sark has any type of balls and wants to improve the culture in this program, he will tell Casey and Charles Thompson to go kick rocks.

Ita because we aren't used to any player getting better during the season. Regression is my ride or die.

Speaking only for myself, I haven’t cooled on Murphy, he’s just always been expected to be more of a long term developmental project with a high upside.  After watching Casey and Card play this year, it’s clear neither of them should be starting next year and I’ve been more interested in figuring out who that 2022 starter will be.

don't think folks have cooled on him, folks are excited BUT he has to develop. he probably needs a RS year more than any QB we have had since Swoopes.

we will all be glad to have him on the team ASAP.

didn't realize he was an EE also, awesome!

It’s pretty good insight on how the staff feels about certain players. Coburn was pretty much the only junior listed who actually played. Tells you what a disappointment he’s been, and that they’re ready to give guys like Murphy more run.

Conversely, Overshown, Jamison, and Cook were the seniors who were not listed, so those are guys the staff really wants back. (They still have extra covid year eligibility)
