Thanks. I have been on the boards since 1997 when I was a student at Texas. We've spent decades as fans and board patrons feeling powerless to create any real change. The Internet, social media,

I work closely with a certain previously committed 5 star QB's father (hint: its Quinn Ewers, for those who haven't been following recruiting closely like I have) and chatted with him a bit this after

Hope he's as solid about this as he was for Banks pushing his commitment to February.  🤘

Darren has a sad because he prefers paying players under the table, where community service and school are excluded.

Ignore Darren, and don't respond to that loser.

Jeff Howe recently posted about Darren Rovell:

"He’s the Skip Bayless of sports business reporters. Clicking on the link and giving him impressions on Twitter is the only thing he wants."

This will get lost in everything else going on, but huge to get Tapp on campus IMO.  Know we haven't heard anything about him wavering, but you never know with Louisiana kids.

My thoughts exactly. Getting him out of Louisiana will be a huge win for Texas.

Bye Red?

Not necessarily. Savion meets with Sark tomorrow and is an athlete that can play so many positions. He just has to win over sark

What do we know about the Gibbs kid from FL?

Absolute fucking stud before his knee injury. If he gets back to that level again this is one hell of a take by Drayton.

Just did a quick google of Gibbs, was apparently a bad ass as a sophomore running back, blew out a knee early junior year, and his senior highlights showed a lot of work from the slot. If he can be the guy he was as a soph, you’ve got something.

What I like about Red is what has been hinted about, he’s allegedly got a shit ton of attitude and swagger. We need some pipe hitting’ mfers. It’s what changed the culture in the early 2000’s, you just need to find that elusive chemistry/right balance.

Gibbs had a season ending injury his junior year. The decline in his tape from sophomore to senior is horrifying. He's a jag at RB, at best. Hopefully this is an LB developmental take. Even then I don't get it.

Sometimes takes a couple of years for that injury. As a lower end take it's not a bad gamble. Fozzy didn't look nearly the same at first but a few years later he was getting NFL snaps.

Now hit Pete’s Tavern do the old school bar run in NYC. Then the Whitehorse. It’s your duty to drink beers at old NYC bars until Texas stops landing 5 stars. Tough job, but someone has to do it

This is a perfect suggestion.  Having done it myself, it's a glorious experience.

Pretty crazy to think a child of Raiola would be in play for Texas.  Can someone remind me what he said about TX while in college?  I can't recall.

Oh fuck if we sign Dominic Raiola's kid

No kidding. We all hated that fucker. And he hated us right back.

Raiola is gonna be the best ‘24 QB in Texas. He’s also a stud on the baseball field, catcher and pitcher currently but the bat profiles to high level college baseball.

Sark is next level recruiting. Convinced him to commit and then send him on a trip to Cancun so Jimbo can’t bug him until signing day. Brilliant.

Wait a sec. How far is that from Key Largo?

What Texas gets in 5-star offensive tackle Kelvin Banks

Spoiler

What Texas gets in 5-star offensive tackle Kelvin Banks

Gabe Brooks

Kelvin Banks' Saturday commitment to Texas represents the type of offensive line pickup the Longhorns have needed for years. In the 247Sports era, which dates to 2010, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite shows one five-star offensive line signee for Texas, and that came all the way back in 2013 (Darius James, who wound up transferring to Auburn and starting two years for the Tigers).

Ranked No. 15 overall on the 247Sports Composite, Banks provides the coveted combination of high-floor capability and high-ceiling developmental upside. Banks owns college-ready size and above-average length that accompanies a broad build to maximize his reach.

Offensive line is a tough unit to crack as a freshman, but Banks' size and ability make him a candidate to see early snaps at the next level. Banks' versatility as a player who could possibly provide reps at either tackle and either guard spot contribute to that concept.

The key for Texas with Banks and any other talented young offensive linemen who join the Longhorns remains, as fans and media have said year after year, developing that talent. Texas has signed some very good high school offensive linemen in the past decade who did not pan out, to put it plainly.

But in Banks, Texas gets a player who possesses the potential of a so-called franchise offensive tackle, a natural right-side mauler with the physical tools and functional athleticism to live on the left side as well. He's a tone-setter in the run game and his combination of his size and functional athleticism make him a reliable pass blocker.

247SPORTS SCOUTING REPORT
Broad, heavy offensive lineman with guard field demeanor and tackle reach and mobility. Owns above average length that combines with body width to maximize wingspan. Understands not only pad leverage but angles relative to targets and hand placement.

Devastating puller with heavy hands and short-area power. Wipeout strength shines at the second level. Drive-blocking ability derives in part from consistent foot activity upon contact. Flashes de-cleating punch and will pancake targets to the ground when necessary.

Good functional athleticism relative to size aids pass-pro ability. Light enough on his feet to mirror edge speed, but size and reach compensate when a tic behind. Showed improved bending ability in senior season, which also revealed improved hand placement consistency.

Still gets out over his feet at times. Balance and body control remain areas that can improve, but 2021 showed progress. Provides excellent roster value in versatility to play either tackle spot and both guard spots if needed.

Combines high-floor ability with developmental upside. Projects to the high-major level as a multi-year starter who should become a stalwart of his team's offensive line. Possesses the attributes to become a high-round NFL Draft prospect in the long term.
