Thanks. I have been on the boards since 1997 when I was a student at Texas. We've spent decades as fans and board patrons feeling powerless to create any real change. The Internet, social media,

I work closely with a certain previously committed 5 star QB's father (hint: its Quinn Ewers, for those who haven't been following recruiting closely like I have) and chatted with him a bit this after

Tech causing me to be vaguely aware of their coaching staff and recruiting is reason enough to leave this damn conference behind

Not sure where the 4 star rating comes from. He’s unrated on 247.

Must be another Panhandle 4.

Well, his interested schools are literally ass

Looks like a late 2000's Mack Brown OL starter kit

Red's profile position should be ATH.  Sark filling some of final 2022 spots with players that have position flexibility makes a lot of sense.  Special teams, LB, WR,  and/or RB could all be possible spots for Red.

Sadly, Chris Hall was one of the more successful ones during that era. Think of the Taylor Doyle’s of the world to get upset.

Maybe it was actually a compliment because he thinks 8-4 is a perfect season.

You're forgetting about the "we beat Bama" commemorative cups good sir

If Dewberry can’t see and feel what UT is building and want to be apart of it then he get what he gets. We’ve already gotten one big fish with another one ready to be reeled in. We can live without the Dew

Looking from my front yard at the stadium just now. I take this as a good sign.

It was pretty sweet in Blanco County, too. Started out more of a Volunteer orange but quickly autocorrected.

Thanks, but too rich for my blood.
I just want to watch Malik in his final HS game.

Sounds weirdly like JPU. Kid at a central Texas HS wears aggy shirts to school all the time. Commits to and signs with Baylor. Then transfers to Texas when Briles gets canned.

He will get to live in some Soviet 70's vintage off campus apartments miles from civilization where he can buy and smoke all the pot he desires and attend his online classes.   He can collect his weekly NIL checks from Lucci at TexAgs every Monday despite not attending the tractor pull or making it to the fair in Normangee.

Sometimes takes a couple of years for that injury. As a lower end take it's not a bad gamble. Fozzy didn't look nearly the same at first but a few years later he was getting NFL snaps.

I don't necessarily disagree.

However, for this class in particular I would lean away from taking flyers on injured guys with long recovery timelines. We need contributors all throughout the depth chart, ASAP. I could see keeping this guy warm until NSD2, but even then I would rather look to the portal. Also need more durability on the roster.

We seem pretty set at RB in the near future.  That's one position where I'm fine taking risks.

Think about how you can count the Texas OL that have been superior to him since he graduated on one hand. Fortunatly, this class is setting up to be the best positioned to do something about that since, shit, I don't even know.

OB notes for the day

Spoiler

Been a busy day so let’s condense some things into this one post …

***

Obviously, the big news of the day was the commitment of Kelvin Banks. This one had been gradually trending UT’s way ever since he took his unofficial visit to UT the week of the Kansas game. There was tremendous confidence in Austin back then that the Longhorns would get him, so much so that I actually started writing my commitment story for him back then. I put my FutureCast in for Texas on Monday as soon as Banks officially decommitted from Oregon and while there was some back-and-forth from Banks on whether or not he’d sign early or wait until February, word going around yesterday was that Banks was going to verbally commit to the UT staff on his in-home visit last night. Everything came to light today when the 5-star lineman announced his commitment on social media.

***

Tremendous job by Kyle Flood in staying on Banks even after he committed to Oregon on July 4. Flood did a good job of continuing to build his relationship with Banks and it paid off today. Remember, Texas wasn’t even one of his two finalists when Banks originally committed to Oregon, so Texas still had a lot of work to do. Flood was brought in to be a recruiting rainmaker and get Texas’ OL turned around after the Longhorns took criminally low numbers of linemen in the past, and today was a monumental step forward. For my money, Banks is the top offensive lineman in an incredibly deep year in the state.

Banks was scheduled to arrive at UT late in the afternoon.

***

The other big development, of course, was the arrival of Quinn Ewers. We were able to confirm around 1 p.m. that he had made it to campus (he must’ve gone in a different entrance because we didn’t see him at the main entrance of Moncrief) and while we haven’t heard anything directly from Ewers, and probably won’t, I do think (and hear) this one continues to look good for Texas.

***

It’ll be interesting to see if the Banks commitment creates some momentum with other linemen. I think it will. Things looked really good for Devon Campbell (we discussed UT’s status in a Fact or Fiction column that was released today) and Malik Agbo, but it felt like Texas just needed that first domino to fall. Now that that has happened, I went ahead and put my Texas FutureCast in for those two guys.

***

I talked to someone today about Kobie McKinzie and there’s a feeling that the Rivals250 LB will stick with Texas despite the late push by Oklahoma. One person I talked to thought the relationships he’s built quickly at UT and the consistency in Texas’ coaching staff will win out.

***

Running back Terrance Gibbs, who had been committed to Florida, was a surprise visitor. Believe it’s an official visit but we’ll work to get more details on Gibbs.

***

ATH Savion Red and DB Xavion Brice are also in-town on OVs, as expected. Things look really good for Texas with Red, but I wouldn’t expect any sort of announcement until NSD1.

***

A bunch of players were on hand today to help with UT’s recruiting efforts, including Bijan Robinson, Denzel Okafor, Jake Majors, Xavier Worthy and Jahdae Barron. Sam Ehlinger was also on campus, which can only help in UT’s pursuit of Ewers.
