I think Burke says in that vid that he has an 80" wingspan, which is that of a 6' 11" to 7' person. I'm going to assume that's amazing.

He said he has an 83" wingspan (edit: I see now this was already pointed out by a couple of posters, but I don't see a delete option🤦🏼‍♂️)

Thanks. I have been on the boards since 1997 when I was a student at Texas. We've spent decades as fans and board patrons feeling powerless to create any real change. The Internet, social media,

I think the smart thing to do is to get Burke to lose some weight and spin him up to linebacker.

Is spinning an important component to this plan?

But his hands are small so technically it’s less.

If she needs to get that kind of clearance in the bedroom normally then I may need to visit a plastic surgeon.

6’7” 225 83” wingspan high motor and super productive at highest level of high school football in the country. not good enough for surly.

Talked a lot about lifting weights.  Bet the bench press is a bitch with those long arms.  I’ve got long arms and it was always that hardest lift.

He needs weight in his trunk, he can negate to some degree upper body strength with that crazy spider reach.

But he's pigeon-chested, so when he adds that extra 35 pounds it will be more like a 96"-98" wingspan.

If you watched the Championship game the dude definitely played with an edge. Major trash talker and got in peoples face.

Spoiler

WR Jacob Cowing, UTEP via Maricopa (AZ): The 5-foot-11, 175-pound receiver had a fantastic year in El Paso in 2021, and now he’s trading up.

The sophomore entered the transfer portal this week and schools came calling. LSU, Oregon, Mississippi State, and Virginia Tech all offered this week, along with Arizona and Arizona State, two schools he’s strongly considering because of his preference to move closer to home.

Texas has yet to reach out to Cowing, he tells IT. He’s interested in the Longhorns, but Sarkisian is still looking for his next wide receivers coach and that appears to be UT’s focus at the moment.

Cowing will be enrolling next month, he tells IT. He wants to decide within the next few weeks. If UT calls, he’ll listen. But today, that’s yet to happen.

WR Coaching Search is quiet. Pitt’s Brennan Marion continues to be the main name mentioned. Sources feel he’s the top target, but he’s also pondering other options, notably a potential offensive coordinator position. Others mentioned include Texas Tech’s Emmitt Jones, TCU’s Malcolm Kelly, and Florida’s Keary Colbert.

We may not see any movement until after Christmas.

Christian Gonzalez (The Colony, Texas/Colorado) announced he was leaving Colorado and entering the portal. According to a source very close to the the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder, Baylor, TCU, Florida and LSU are among those quickly in contact. As far as Texas, that would be a tough hill for Steve Sarkisian and staff to climb with Ryan Watts just having jumped on board. Watts to go along with D’Shawn Jamison returning, Jahdae Barron, Kitan Crawford, Terrance Brooks and Jaylon Guilbeau coming in makes it more crowded than two weeks ago.

Also, the staff is saving a DB scholarship for Louisiana safety Jacoby Mathews, just in case.

Coaching personalities. IT caught up with program sources to get an idea of how each coach is viewed a year into his tenure.

*On HC Steve Sarkisian: He’s likable for the way he carries himself. He’s approachable and players can talk to him if need be. Genuine and up front.

*On OL Kyle Flood: He’s a good coach because he makes more complex things simple. He’s direct and instructive. A very good communicator.

*On TE/ST Jeff Banks: He’s a genius on special teams. He did a great job showing the players all three phases matter. He can be a bit out there, but his energy is infectious. He’s always on, always going full speed ahead.”

*On DT Bo Davis: He doesn’t care about sparing feelings. He cares about making players better and winning. Language is colorful but the players respond to it. Has a big personality and stands out in any room. He doesn’t take BS but always puts his players first.

*On DC/DE Pete Kwiatkowski: He’s quiet, but a funny guy. A dad jokes kind of guy. Has some Tony Dungy in him where he rarely hollers, but tries to get his point across in a mature manner.

*On CB Terry Joseph: He’s always upbeat and positive. He focuses on the good parts. He doesn’t scream to get his point across.“

We’ll add notes on Blake Gideon and Jeff Choate when we get them.

Recruiting Matters

Devon Campbell, IOL, Arlington (Texas) Bowie:

The On3 Consensus 5-star continues to be a heavy lean to Texas over Oklahoma. Campbell remains scheduled to announce February 2. We shall see if he remains on that schedule.

Texas is taking 7 O-lineman between high school and the portal and IT isn’t expecting anyone from the portal. So…

Jacoby Mathews, S, Ponchatoula (La.):

Texas continues its pursuit of the On3 Consensus four-star safety. The Longhorns have felt good about this recruitment in recent weeks but if Texas is to win out for the 6-foot-1, 205-pounder, it would be news to a source in the Pelican State. This source is hearing more Florida and LSU chatter at this point, but does know Texas’ Terry Joseph is in the fight. Alabama is the wildcard here. Mathews is scheduled to announce during the Under Armour All-America Game January 2.

Earnest Greene, IOL/OT, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco

The On3 Consensus 4-star lineman has signed with either Georgia or Texas, and will announce January 8 during the Adidas All-American Bowl. The On3 RMP has Georgia as the heavy favorite, and IT agrees with that.

Larry Turner-Gooden, S, Mission Hills (Calif.) Bishop Alemany

The On3 Consensus four-star is also scheduled to announce his decision January 8 during the Adidas All-American Bowl. Texas has been considered the favorite over Colorado and Maryland.

Caleb Douglas, WR, Missouri City (Texas) Hightower:

The On3 Consensus 3-star and former USC verbal has an official visit scheduled to Florida January 15. A long time relationship with new Florida WR coach Keary Colbert will make this one tough for the competition. The Longhorns offered in early December, but the contact hasn’t been consistent since that time. IT will continue to monitor this recruitment.

Cedric Baxter, RB, Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater - 2023:

When Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice hits the road in mid-January, Baxter will be one of the first stops. Choice has been in contact with the On300 No. 1 ranked running back in the 2023 cycle since being announced by Texas. Baxter and Choice have built a strong relationship during the process.

Ian Reed, OT/IOL, Austin (Texas) Vandegrift - 2023:

An in-state offensive lineman IT expects to be on the radar for the Longhorns in the 2023 cycle is the 6-foot-6, 290-pound tackle from Austin. Reed played against Westlake in front of members of the Texas staff, including offensive line coach Kyle Flood. IT expects Reed to be in contention for an offer. TCU, Colorado, Kansas and UTSA are among the early offers.

*****

On behalf of Inside Texas, I’d like to wish you a Merry Christmas and/or happy holidays. Please don’t neglect family time refreshing IT. However, if you find yourself feeling a little lonely, in the spirit of Jesus (Shuttlesworth), we are here for you.

@THUJONE I seem to remember a promise for a signing day recap. With a standard SLA of a few days I have consulted numerous top men and we have all agreed that you are overdue.

It isn’t. Going to play essentially 3 CBs for 80% of your snaps.

Burke's raised goalpost arms will render one third of the field inaccessible beyond the line of scrimmage.

Flight is not totally out of the question depending on how he puts on weight and if his bones continue to hollow out.
