Thanks. I have been on the boards since 1997 when I was a student at Texas. We've spent decades as fans and board patrons feeling powerless to create any real change. The Internet, social media,

These experts rarely miss 5 stars at this position so I trust their evaluations and especially Sark.

Just my two cents.

With quarterbacks, you really do want to see what they do in a game situation.  But Murphy is far from the only kid who didn’t have a season. Texas’ QB room has options for him to learn a bit. He is pretty much the definition of unlimited upside and Sark has proven he can work with QBs.  Absolutely 5* potential where coaching and his own dedication will determine what happens next. Great pickup.

Just lost his head coach to Texas, I bet he does. With how things are currently looking at WR, would he have been told to look around by the new staff even if he had sty committed?

Alabama had really increased their efforts on Phaizon before he committed to Texas so I doubt it.

(Gerry Hamilton) IT Recruiting Matters: 5 four-star's committed, where the class is headed

Spoiler

The Texas staff enjoyed their best Saturday since arriving in Austin. With the verbals of four-star strong-armed quarterback Maalik Murphy and four-star hard-hitting linebacker Trevell Johnson, the Longhorns' 2022 class now has started building momentum and can begin to take shape as a top 10 class.

Where the class is at:
QB Maalik Murphy, 6-4, 225
Four-star signal caller with a quality shortened junior campaign can help the Longhorns voice out west in California.

RB Jaydon Blue, 5-11, 205
Blue gave the class an ascending shot of momentum when he committed out of nowhere (and no I wasn’t going to say out of the Blue). This verbal resonated with a number of Texas targets, and has certainly helped with the Longhorns' efforts with Kelvin Banks and Kam Dewberry to slow down the Aggie momentum in H-Town. Keep watching for those Blue's Clues.

WR Armani Winfield, 6-2, 180
The Lewisville run-and-catch receiver prospect was the first verbal for Steve Sarkisian and staff at Texas, and continues to be a voice in DFW. Pairing Winfield with plenty of speed in the class is key.

LB Trevell Johnson, 6-1, 200
Bottom line, Texas has to win in DFW in the 2022 cycle. Way too much high end talent in the Metroplex in the class and beyond, and the staff was constructed with this in mind with Jeff Banks being the recruiting bell-cow in Austin. The staff had to close out the leans, and did just that getting Johnson in the fold quickly.

CB/N Jaylon Guilbeau, 6-0, 180
A new staff never wants to lose momentum out of the gate, and keeping the Golden Triangle defensive back in the class with TCU charging along with others matters. Texas needs to sign a 5-6 member defensive back class, and keeping a four-star in the fold was needed.

Raise your hand if you have pitched washers:
If you have pitched washers, you know where I’m going with this. The Texas staff has to knock those leaners in and maximize the class. After Saturday, the vision and where the staff believes the program can go has more print on the canvas.

WR Evan Stewart, 6-0, 175
This is one of the “must get” prospects in the 2022 cycle. No way around it. Special athlete with WR hands and ball skills.

CB/N Bryce Anderson, 5-11, 185
Along with Terrance Brooks, one of the most versatile prospects in the state. Texas has come out of nowhere behind the work of Terry Joseph to overtake Texas A&M with a decision expected in the coming weeks. This would be a continued big momentum building victory.

DT Kristopher Ross, 6-3, 265
Bo Davis is strong at North Shore. With offers from Texas, Oklahoma and LSU… anyone still questioning if IT was right in calling Ross a four-star prospect when he only had an offer from UTSA can take a seat in the corner. Decision Friday. Decision positive barring the unforeseen.

OT Kelvin Banks, 6-5, 300
Banks began the recruiting process with Texas as the favorite. The Longhorns slipped behind LSU and Texas A&M this season, but are now trending once again. This is a recruitment the staff needs the premium position prospect to “come back home.”

S Landon Hullaby, 6-0, 185
Texas should be able to close this recruitment out on a timeline within the next few weeks. Having Terry Joseph as the recruiter after offering while at Notre Dame doesn’t hurt here.

OG Connor Robertson, 6-4, 295
Texas should absolutely win this recruitment. The offers have started pouring in, as expected for the guard prospect with a very good frame and the desired foot and body quickness.

OG Devon Campbell, 6-3, 305
Texas is all in with Jeff Banks and Kyle Flood bringing the tag team recruitment over from Tuscaloosa.

CB Denver Harris, 6-0, 180
Texas is positioned nicely here, but could play out for a while — even potentially to December/January.

RB Jamarion Miller, 5-10, 185
If Texas pushes for Miller, this recruitment is over by April.

Win some tough recruitments without having a considerable lead:
WR Brenen Thompson, 5-10, 170
Thompson and his 10.2 speed remain a top priority for the Texas staff. At least one person in Thompson’s circle continues to like the idea of Texas.

CB/N Terrance Brooks, 5-11, 185
Texas was once the leader, but now Alabama and Texas A&M are all in. Stanford is also a factor. This will be a battle, but one worth the fight.

OT Neto Umeozulu, 6-5, 300
Texas signs the best prospect out of Allen High in the 2022 class. If that is your prediction, that’s a terrific early bet. With the competition being Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and others… this will be a fun one to follow.

OG/T Kam Dewberry, 6-4, 315
This is a recruitment Texas could win. Dewberry had Texas at the top or very near the top of his recruitment prior to the offers pouring in. This one will not be easy, but is worth the Banks/Flood tag team effort.

WR Chris Marshall, 6-3, 195
Texas needs to hang around the rim here and be in position to dunk the ball if the opportunity is presented. Texas A&M, LSU and others will certainly be hanging around the same rim.

WR Kevin Coleman, 5-11, 170
This is a recruitment Texas could potentially win against about every top program nationally.

S Bryan Allen Jr., 6-0, 190
This instinctive safety is an old school Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Texas battle. Could building momentum by Texas win out here? Or will Johnathan Gray continue to blame his lack of an NFL career on Texas?

DB Jarred Kerr, 6-0, 185
The quicker the Texas DB class begins filling up, the easier for competition such as Oklahoma and Texas A&M to beat Texas.

TE Jason Llewellyn, 6-5, 242
TCU vs. Texas barring the unforeseen here. Grew up at TCU football games, but has family connections to Texas as well.

DB Larry Turner-Gooden, 5-11, 175
If Texas is taking an OOS DB in this absolutely loaded in-state cycle, it would be this versatile defender with otherworldly arm length for a 5-10.5 prospect.

Pull an upset or three:
QB Quinn Ewers, 6-3, 210
Despite the verbal of Murphy, Texas should absolutely keep the door open for one of the nation's premier quarterbacks and prospects.

DT Bear Alexander, 6-4, 315
Despite the Georgia early close, Texas absolutely will keep battling. Bo Davis and Jeff banks won't just throw in the towel.

DT Jaray Bledsoe, 6-4, 270
Texas A&M should win this recruitment. Don’t tell Bo Davis that.

DEs Ernest Cooper IV, Omari Abor, or D.J. Wesolak
Key here is to win one of these tough recruitments working from behind.

RB Trevonte’ Citizen, 6-0, 215 or Le’veon Moss, 6-0, 195
If Texas wants a bigger back to fill out a two RB class, the staff will have to battle in the Pelican State.

LB’s Niuafe Tuihalamaka, Harold Perkins, Kip Lewis or Ish Harris
Like defensive end, the staff needs to work all four recruitments and win one from behind.

OT Jacob Sexton, 6-5, 285
Maybe this could end up the 2022 class version of Bryan Pickryl, but the staff won’t know unless they keep plugging away.

Hope this staff can manage where they actually stand. I wouldn’t accept a commitment from Phaizon now but would hate to miss out on the top guys and not have him in the back pocket.

It would be nice to see what the Texas WR board looks like.  9:95 may be way off.

Gerry's thoughts on ESPN rankings movement for Texas targets

Spoiler

Players mentioned in the Recruiting Matters post in terms of ESPN rankings … and where I believe they are most likely to end up over time …

None of the players mentioned in the article are ranked 5-star in the ESPN Jr300 ...

Maalik Murphy - currently No. 16 in the Jr300. Believe he will end up 150-175 range over time.

Jaydon Blue - No. 90 in the Jr300.

Armani Winfield - No. 50 in the Jr300. While I’m not convinced he has worked his way back to 100% after a knee injury, I expect him to move to the 225-250 range over time pending senior season on the field.

Trevell Johnson - currently a four-star. Believe he will be trend toward 225-250 range nationally over time.

Jaylon Guilbeau - No. 200 in the Jr300. See him hanging around that range pending spring track times.

Evan Stewart No. 25 in the Jr300. Believe he ends up top 20 overall.

Bryce Anderson - No. 106 in the Jr300.

Kristopher Ross - currently a four-star on ESPN. Fully expect him to move inside the top 150 in the ESPN300 over time.

Kelvin Banks - No. 52 in the Jr300

Landon Hullaby - No. 202 in the Jr300. See him in that range.

Connor Robertson - high three-star. Can see him ending up a four-star OG.

Devon Campbell - No. 10 in Jr300. See him staying inside the top 40 long term.

Denver Harris - No. 24 currently in the Jr300. Believe he will hang in the 25-35 range pending return from knee injury.

Jamarion Miller - No. 131 in the Jr300.

Brenen Thompson - No. 26 in the Jr300. See him staying inside the top 30

Terrance Brooks - No. 222 in Jr300. Will be a big mover into the top 100 long term.

Neto Umeozulu - currently a four-star. Will make a big move. Top 60 level prospect in the ESPN300 over time.

Kam Dewberry - No. 172 in the Jr300.

Chris Marshall - currently a four-star. Will be a big mover into the next ESPN300. Can see him a top 100 prospect overall.

Kevin Coleman - No. 61 in the Jr300.

Bryan Allen Jr. - No. 78 in the Jr300.

Jarred Kerr - No. 228 in the Jr300. Can see him ascending over time.

Jason Llewellyn - currently a four-star. Believe he could end up in the 185-200 range.

Larry Turner-Gooden - N0. 47 in the Jr300. See him staying in the top 100 long term.

Quinn Ewers - No. 1. Don’t see much movement considering he played at about 40-50% in the playoffs. Complement to his toughness and leadership he played when he likely shouldn’t have with it being his junior season.

Bear Alexander - No. 211 in Jr300. Now after having varsity tape and in person eval this year, he will be a big mover and end up Top 50 level prospect.

Jaray Bledsoe - currently a four-star on ESPN. Will be a big mover, likely a top 100 prospect long term.

Ernest Cooper IV - No. 55 in the Jr300.

Omari Abor - No. 59 in the Jr300.

D.J. Wesolak - currently a four-star on ESPN. Will be a big mover into the to p150 in the next ESPN300 update.

Trevonte’ Citizen - No. 185 in the Jr300.

Le’veon Moss - No. 63 in the Jr300. Can see inside the top 50.

Niuafe Tuihalamaka - No. 76 in the Jr300. See him staying in the top 150 long term.

Harold Perkins - No. 28 in the Jr300. See him ending up in the top 25 overall.

Kip Lewis - currently a four-star on ESPN. See him inside the ESPN300 over time.

Ish Harris - currently high three-star. Can see move up to four-star.

Jacob Sexton - No. 161 in the Jr300. See him ascending into the top 125 over time.

Fong on his new UT source (Glasscock)

Quote

On Saturday, Horns247 insider Mike Roach reported that Texas may be closing in on its new Director of Player Personnel in Billy Glasscock who currently holds that role at NC State.

That would be a terrific hire for the Longhorns as Glasscock is at the top of his profession in my opinion in a conversation that would include the likes of Ohio State’s Mark Pantoni, Clemson’s Jordan Sorrells, Oklahoma's Drew Hill and Texas A&M’s Marshall Malchow.

Now, Glasscock is more than ready to be on an even playing field with those guys. He is a triple threat in the role, organized, a strong evaluator and he can recruit.

"Texas needs to hire Billy and not think twice about it ever again," one of his peers in the industry text 247Sports.

Entering his 20th year in college football, the first nine spent as a coach, Glasscock is the son of a roofer and that blue-collar mentality didn’t fall far from the tree. At NC State and before that Minnesota, he helped grow each of those respective recruiting departments and was also part of some of those program’s more successful seasons on the field in school history.

Glasscock was instrumental in identifying under-recruited talents that evolved into NFL Draft picks like safety Antoine Winfield (second-round pick and starter in the Super Bowl), tight end Maxx Williams (2nd round) running back David Cobb (fifth round), linebacker Damien Wilson (fourth round), cornerback Eric Murray (fourth round), cornerback Jalen Myrick (seventh round), receiver Tyler Johnson (fifth round), linebacker Kamal Martin (fifth round), safety Cedric Thompson (fifth round) and linebacker Blake Cashman (fifth round). The thing those guys had in common was Minnesota was the only Power Five offer for each and Cashman actually started out as a walk-on.

Glasscock helped court touted prospects as well, edge rusher Carter Coughlin and running back Jeff Jones at Minnesota with Peyton Wilson, Ricky Person, Donovan Knight, CJ Clark, Savion Jackson, Aaron McLaughlin, Josh Harris and Porter Rooks some of the four-star guys that came to NC State. These are some of the highest-ranked players the Gophers and the Wolfpack have recruited in the 247Sports Composite era.

Texas is a place where the logo on the shirt puts the Longhorns in the conversation to land just about anybody they target. Obviously the talent-rich Lone Star State has potential difference-makers across the board, and we already know new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff will go national when they need to as evident by 247Sports Composite five-star quarterback Maalik Murphy giving his verbal over the weekend. Where Glasscock fits in is someone who will make sure the infrastructure is organized and that the program is always watching, evaluating and targeting the right guys.

Seems notable to me that he was instrumental on NC State landing the greatest pro prospect of all time, our savior Payton Wilson

Basically the same way that "yeah, no" means no and "no, yeah" means yes.
