Okafor, Imade, Dunn, Schooler, Thornton, and now Davis are all 2016 guys, which means they're all going into their 6th year. Grown ass man BYU roster type shit

What position? I think he started out as an ILB at Alabama and then moved outside last year.

It do be like that at Bama, even for 5-stars.

His dad had 327 so together they averaged 167 tackles which is pretty respectable.

What is the story with him, why didn't he really pan out at Bama?

X or Jack

Former 5 star. Hmm. I know nothing about him other than that. Is he a grad transfer? Seems like I remember him being from a few years ago. But seriously, is he good or was he overrated?

Regardless, Hook Em, Ben. Welcome to the 40 🤘🐂

So just this fall? Or does he get an extra year for COVID as well?

2021 is his COVID year

Also, I've heard inside but is that set in stone? Is he stupid quick? Seems like 6-4/237 would be outsized in this conference.

No, anyone who's saying he will be an ILB hasn't been paying attention.

Texas adds commitment from Alabama grad transfer LB Ben Davis

By MIKE ROACH     76 minutes ago

The Longhorns have gone back to the transfer portal to add another defensive player. Alabama transfer linebacker Ben Davis announced Monday that he will be making the move to Texas. A former five-star recruit from Gordo (Ala.), Davis signed with the Crimson Tide in the 2016 class. he was ranked in the Top 15 within the Top247 and as a Top 10 propsect nationally by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings.

After redshirting his first year on campus, Davis saw limited action in his first year on the field in Tuscaloosa. He then moved to outside linebacker and saw more action during his junior and senior year as an edge rusher. A graduate with immediate eligibility, Davis comes to Texas with one year left following the eligibility hold instituted by the NCAA during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Longhorns are no strangers to the transfer portal for finding help. Under Tom Herman, the Texas staff has been able to augment the roster by adding instant contributors looking for a new home. Over Herman’s tenure, California graduate transfer running back Tre Watson, Rice graduate transfer Calvin Anderson and Georgia Tech graduate transfer offensive lineman Parker Braun are all guys who have been able to come in and make an impact immediately.

Last season, the Longhorns leaned on the portal to add experience and talent to the wide receiver position with Brenden Schooler and Tarik Black.

Interest in the transfer portal hasn’t waned under Sarkisian as the Longhorns added LSU’s Ray Thornton and Ovie Oghoufo earlier in the year, in addition to landing the commitment of New Mexico State transfer LB Devin Richardson one day ago. Davis joins those players as a likely instant contributor on defense.

Texas is re-built their coaching staff into a strong recruiting force under new head coach Steve Sarkisian who comes to Texas after working for Nick Saban over several years at Alabama.

Sarkisian joined Saban’s staff at Alabama in the fall of 2016 initially in an analyst role before being promoted to interim offensive coordinator by Saban for the 2016 National Championship game after Lane Kiffin was hired as head coach at Florida Atlantic. In 2017, Sarkisian left Alabama to take over as offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons, then returned to Alabama as offensive coordinator in 2019.

Under Sarkisian’s watch, the Crimson Tide finished the 2019 season second in the country in scoring with 47.2 points per game.

Alabama won a national title in a dominant victory over Ohio State. Sarkisian’s offense put up historic numbers throughout the year as the Crimson Tide finished with multiple Heisman Trophy finalists and the eventual winner in Alabama wide receiver Devonta Smith.
