There was a thread awhile back debating whether being a good singer or a good dancer made it easier for unattractive guy to get laid. Adam Duritz is Exhibit A for the singer argument. He’s goofy looking and comes off like a fuckin’ weirdo but he writes songs so powerful he fucked Jennifer Anniston. And . . . May 9, 20214 yr I will try to list some that haven’t been mentioned already Phish - Junta Sublime - 40oz to Freedom Ray LaMontagne - Trouble Weezer - Blue Album
May 9, 20214 yr 1 hour ago, Neonmoon said: Phish - Junta The white tape preceded Junta. So did Trey’s senior thesis The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday but i don’t know exactly when that got circulated within the tape trading community. As an aside, the first time Trey went to a Grateful Dead concert they opened the second set with Scarlet > Fire. At Phish’s first live performance they opened their second set with Scarlet > Fire.

May 9, 20214 yr Being funny is right up there with being a musician.I'd offer the fevered egos of women and their desire to be known as "the muse" behind a song/album drives many, many hot chicks to give sympathy fucks to a lot of ugly musicians. God bless 'em.

Also, are we too cowardly to post the actual album cover? I own the album. It’s a great album. Doesn’t make me a pedophile. I own all of Traffic’s albums. I saw them live at Blossom Music Center in 1994. One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. (I also saw Jefferson Airplane there in 1989.) You can give me a higher love right after you go fuck yourself with your totally wrong opinion about Steve Winwood. One of the all time great voices in rock. 😛

One of the all time great voices in rock. Higher Love fucking sucks. So do Finer Things and Back in the High Life. Those are terrible fucking songs. Clapton and Baker kicked ass together in Cream. Clapton kicked ass before that in Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and Yardbirds. Those two join up with Winwood and suddenly they’re putting out absolutely lame bullshit, almost all of which was written by Winwood. Then Winwood disappears and resurfaces in the 80s to fill the pop radio airwaves with even lamer bullshit. Winwood is the common denominator in a long string of musical suckitude.

Look, musical taste is subjective and reasonable minds can differ in their assessment of the quality of an artist. Haha, jk. Steve Winwood sucks and your opinion is stupid.

ADDENDUM: he seems to think he's Elvin Jones, but his internal clock is all over the map. He has a very poor sense of groove/tempo. Edited May 11, 20214 yr by jimmyjazz

May 12, 20214 yr So many great debut albums already mentioned. May I humbly submit: King Crimson- In the Court of the Crimson King, Tricky- Maxinquaye, The Flying Burrito Brothers- The Gilded Palace of Sin, Metallica- Kill ‘Em All, Black Sabbath-S/T, Buffalo Springfield-S/T, The Smiths-S/T, Exodus- Bonded By Blood, Mercyful Fate- Melissa, and Motley Crue- Too Fast For Love.
May 12, 20214 yr LMAO. I try to like Blind Faith because I'm a huge fan of Steve Winwood, but I hate Ginger Baker and am ambivalent to Eric Clapton. Not a big fan of either Winwood or Clapton solo stuff.Seen both and in my experience you are much more likely to get laid if you escort a lady to a Winwood show. PJ “Ten” Beastie Boys “Licensed to Ill” Toadies “Rubberneck” I loved every song on all 3. i also love TP’s debut, “Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers” oh and count me as a fan of Baker, Clapton and Winwood; together, solo, whatever. But I’d also argue that Larks’ Tongues in Aspic and Starless and Bible Black were both better albums. Islands probably was too. And that’s not to even mention the later incarnations of the band and their various offshoots. I even saw ProjeKct X live. I had my CD collection stolen back in 1990. Larks’ Tongues was the first KC album I replaced. Probably would be again. Play it LOUD! (Actually that goes for all KC albums.)

May 13, 20214 yr There are tons of good examples here. I'l view it through a slightly different lens: which debut albums "upset" their genre and/or changed the mainstream? In no specific order - many have already been said Beatles - Please Please Me Velvet Underground and Nico Jimi Hendrix Experience Sex Pistols - Bollocks Roxy Music - Roxy Music Ramones Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy Van Halen The Smiths REM - Murmur GnR - Appetite Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine Beastie Boys - License to Ill Black Sabbath Nirvana - Bleach The Stone Roses Oasis - Definitely Maybe NWA - Straight Outta Compton Public Enemy - Yo! Bum Rush the Show Eminem - Slim Shady Weezer - Blue Album I saw NIN in a bar in Miami in 1989. Opening acts were Meat Beat Manifesto and what would become Marilyn Manson. NIN played the entirety of Pretty Hate Machine and a few other songs. It might be the most entertaining show I have ever seen. There are many that I likely forgot.
May 13, 20214 yr Oh wait, I was wrong before. I didn’t see ProjeKct X. I saw ProjeKct Two. Does that still count? (The title of the album was Space Groove.)
May 13, 20214 yr Not their best album but pretty significant. Not in a commercial sense or probably widely known. But Led Zeppelin loved it.
